Well, my smoking didn't set me back that much, only about $176/mo (only!!!
)... but this is the part that my husband likes the best: of whatever hundreds of dollars I've spent on vape gear... I STILL HAVE NEARLY ALL OF IT! All the hardware... some of which I no longer use, but it hasn't turned into ashes; I could PIF it, if someone came along that wanted to try vaping. And of the consumables I've bought, that wouldn't amount to very much money at all. Not turning dollars into ashes is a MAJOR improvement!Andria
Exactly. I spent $600 on cigarettes, that turned into ashes and nasty ... smelling butts that got thrown away... Nothing to show for all my money I actually work hard for. Now I have ALL my vapenstuff I bought except juice (BUT I have allll my glass bottles my juice came in and I actually fill them with sand a small seashells use a glass burner to make designs on the bottles and I sell them for $2 a piece and they sell like wildfire) so HA!!!!
I started vaping May of 2013 with the ego and the clearimizers, went back to smoking caz it wasn't dellievering the nicotine I wanted. Wander into a vape shop that sold mech clone mods, havwalked out with nemy clone, Igo-L atty, battery and a charger for $100.
Haven't had a stinky in over 2 yrs. Got into DIY e-juice, caz even getting 15ml of juice@ $10 is more expensive then DIY

Have a order for 10 lbs of Vg, and 8 lbs of PG coming cost less then $60, have plenty of nicotine, just gotta get the flavors I want and I'm set, wire, and wicking material I don't add the cost in dirt cheap to bill a coil, and have heaps of Japanese contten to last the rest of my life

Heh hows about standing in front of a 100w full stack roaring away WHILE smoking! Playing is when I really REALLY want to smoke! still do sometimes, sometimes.
The thrill for me is knowing that all this new gear and mod projects I am delving into is TOTALLY paid for with NOT paying cig taxes.
I swear not paying those taxes almost feels better than feeling better!
I bought my cigarettes. And within about 3 weeks of vaping I had saved enough to have paid off the cf sub ohm and Atlantis tank and 2 bottles of juice I started with. You can by good juice online for cheap. Plus it finally feels good to breath! My dad started vaping after he found out he lung cancer. That's right... After! And he still had more endurance than when he smoked and was healthy. Not all about the money.
I liked this one for moral support. I lost my dad to lung cancer. That was 1974-long before this miracle device was available. I am very happy to know that it is here for you and your dad.
Sure, I spend tons more money on vaping, than I did on smoking. But I never considered smoking cigarettes a hobby; which vaping has become, for me. Actually, vaping is multiple hobbies: collecting gear, setting up my atomizers, making juice, and interacting with other vapers.
Sorry to say you ARE trying to stir the pot! Sounds to me like you are angry that the cost of a nicotine habit costs money either way you go. I RYO'd for years at $1.25 a pack, that was still pretty good compared to buying what I used to smoke at $3.65 a pack now. One thing you might take into account about some folks banners and the money they have "saved", I would venture to guess that a good majority of that "saved" money has gone into vaping costs.
Vaping just like smoking is going to cost you money, however, with smoking you're just buying the cigs, but with vaping you're buying the device, batteries, juice, tanks, clearos...etc. It may seem like vaping costs more but it can be as expensive or inexpensive as you make it. When you first start out, you can buy one of these starter kits that costs $100 or more, however, if you are a comparative shopper like myself you can find a quality set up for as low as $35. Right now vaping is a huge business and there are literally hundreds, if not thousands, of vendors competing for their share of the market and there are plenty of great deals to be found. For instance, I use an iStick 30W set up with a Nautilus Mini tank. Some vendors are selling the iStick for as much as $40 or more. I found a vendor that sells it for $29.95. Same goes for the Nautilus Mini, some vendors have a high price and I've found it for less. Google what you are looking for, shop around, check out the ECF vendors, there's always a deal out there somewhere and you have to spend a little time looking for it.
The same pricing applies for anything vape related: juice, clearos, or whatever your vaping needs require. DIY'ing your own juice can cut costs dramatically. Some premium juices can cost as much as a dollar per ml and some "made to order" juice vendors can be extremely inexpensive. I still buy "premium" juice and I DIY. After the initial investment of my DIY supplies, I can make a 30ml bottle of juice for about 50 cents (give or take a dime here and there). My monthly costs for coils is around $15. I spend maybe around $60 a month on vendor's juice. So when I add up the cost for for everything (after initial investment) I have my vaping habit running me at less than $100 a month. I could lower that cost if I wanted, but I have set that amount in my budget and usually stick with it. Compare this to the cost of cigs. I used to smoke close to 2 packs a day, so 2 packs at $3.65 a day is $7.30, daily cost times 30 is $219, plus throw in the cost of a lighter or 2 and I was looking at $225 a month for cigs. Of course it was much cheaper when I RYO'd, around $75 or so. So now I'm spending $25 more if I was still RYO'ing.
You can look at your "dilemma" one of two ways. You are either smoking cigs and taking all the health risks that go along with them or vaping. It's that simple IMO. You are going to spend money either way, however, you must take it all in perspective and do what's right for you! I wish you luck either way you go.

Heh, I can say I never joined any smoking forums or wondered about smoke meets and new products etc.
My grandfather passed because of that too. Several years before I started smoking regularly, (opposed to stealing a cig occasionally from my step dad or a neighbor..) even though at that point I was well aware of the possible consequences! Even though this happened to you a long time ago, you have my condolences.
I smoked a pack + per day at $6.00 per pack.

So far this year I have spent less than $200 on vaping, and that included enough DIY juice supplies to last me at least 3 years before I have to buy more juice. I'm buying a new mod for my birthday, my first in more than a year, and a new tank, my first in about 3 months, and 4 batteries. Other than that I have no plans to buy anything except some coils for the remainder of the year.
So, I'll spend less than $500 this year on vaping compared to the $4,380 I would have spent smoking. A savings of $3,880 in one year.

No kidding.
I spent about $150 on DIY supplies. That bought me enough supplies to make around 12,000ml of juice. Even if you were going through 20ml of juice per day that's more than a year and a half worth of juice for less than 125 days worth of his smoking.
Vaping is cheaper for me than vaping. No I did not make my own cigs, yes I did buy cheap $32/carton. You did not go as cheap as you could either you wussed out and bought tubes and pre shredded tobacco. I could get genuine burley out of a curing barn and shred it myself and smoke in a home made corncob pipe for cheaper than you with your newfangled machine built cigarettes.
but I think I have made my point.
I spend 1/3 to 1/2 less on my vaping than I did on smoking. And it will get cheaper still. I have no need to buy $50 plus batteries. I buy a evod tank a battery and a charger for $8. Suits me fine. I rebuild and rewick my own coils. I make my own juice.
The reason I started vaping was to save money. I felt no need to stretch out my miserable existence by being healthier. I did find that I liked vaping though. And am willing to pay the price of living longer because I vape.

I just gave away the last of my esmart clearos, cartomizers, 808 threaded ego batteries, and 808d t4 clearos to a friend who is starting his vaping journey.
That was about 1/2 of my cost of vaping thus far. It will be lots cheaper here on out. I now get rebuildable evod tanks for the same money as I spent on disposable clearos. I got enough wire and cotton to keep them going for a couple of years. With $25 more in VG I will have enough DIY to last over another 6 months. And with ALL of that I still have only spent 3 months worth of CIG budget and been vaping 6 months. And cheaper here on out

Just added up all mu current hardware costs. I have $40 in 5 Evod blister packs. gives me 5 650 MA VV ego batts. 5 chargers and 5 evod tanks. I another 12 evod tanks for $2 each so another $24. I got 10 Kanger T3S tanks for $20. Got 4 glass protanks for $4 each so $16. about $12 in wire and $20 in spare coils. and a few years worth of salon coil cotton for around $3.
So 5 batteries and about 30 tanks.... I like a tank for each flavor

As a dual user, I'm currently spending around $10 a month on smoking and about $30 a month on vaping. As a non-dual user and thus a smoking abuser (PAD), I was spending $200 or so a month on smoking. In my 4 years of vaping, I think there have been 2 months that I spent that amount.
I think an obvious difference between the two is you kinda know you could easily spend a lot more on vaping on better gear, and endless amount of flavor options, whereas with smoking, you're really just talking about buying in a way that equals stocking up. But if you are budget conscious, as I am, then I don't really see how I could spend more money without feeling like I'm wasting both time and money. The other obvious difference, that I already brought up, is many smokers (most?) are of the abusive variety and are PAD smokers, so (at least) $100 a month would be the norm, unless you are in the RYO crowd, which I think is very atypical. Whereas with vaping, I would think most are not spending $100 or more a month over say 1 year span, even while some clearly are.
