I will just post the pdf file here. I will remove it if it is requested by law.
https://api2.bluecheck.me/modal/data/policy.pdf

Just so I understand the issue as it stands now is that folks are concerned about Blue Check because they and for the last 4 numbers of your SS#, or a selfie if the other info about doesn't work? And that concern is based on either concern that Blue Check will then store that data which can then be taken by hackers for nefarious reasons, or sold to other companies for marketing or other use?

If that's the issue, does anyone have a link about security problems with Blue Check, or their privacy policy statement which allows them to use your info for anything other than age verification, including selling it to other companies for marketing or whatever? I am familiar with other age verification services and their records and policies, but not Blue Check.

Here you go.

But by knowing what vendor requires what ahead of placing an order they can make an informed decision.
I imagine things will be in flux for awhile.
What one vendor is doing today may be different than what they are doing tomorrow.

Something to keep in mind.

My email address is my name as is the domain. It has been in use and registered for more than 20 years. I have been buying from Discount vapers for 5 years using that address. If bluecheck (and by extension Discount vapers) want a selfie (Which I don't do even without the DL) with my DL visible and readable then we will part ways. I have been in the IT business since before there was such an acronym and I will trust you (bluechek) marketing dweebs starting a few days after my funeral.

I just received an email response from ecigexpress saying they are using Verated for AV.

Edit: I googled Verated, and didn't come up with anything, maybe they meant Veratag.

I placed an order with ecigexpress yesterday and there was no age verification. They are just a flavor company and not required to verify age so I don't get it.

Blue Check's answer from this question and answer session on why they use SSN:

"The other systems ask for name, age, and address. But there is no validation that you actually own that information. How easy would it be for someone to plug in their parent’s information? Or their older siblings. That’s why we use SSN – easy, quick, and secure. One time verification of information only you know."

And how easy would it be for that same intrepid underage teenager to simply look through their parent's stored tax returns for the SSN? Or simply go pluck the actual card from wherever it's stored in the house? They live there. Any snooping kid worth their salt knows where these things are in the house.

It's "Veratad" with a d. They've been performing discreet, unobtrusive age verification for online tobacco purchases for years.

Who has...Veratad? How do you know this?

If they're using Veratad you might not even know your identity/age were verified. I've been making NETs (Naturally Extracted Tobacco) for years and purchase the tobacco they're made with from online Tobacconists, Veratad is the age verification service I'm familiar with. I've never been asked for my S.S.#, Cell# or image of my drivers license. In fact I don't remember providing any information except what was necessary to establish an account with the tobacco vendor; name, address, home phone#, date of birth etc.

Then I see no reason to not shop at vendor stores that use Veratad but others have posted that vendors that use Veratad have been asked for SSN. I'm so confused.

Depends, here's the explanation from one of my tobacco sites;

How does Veratad’s Age Verification work?

Veratad’s AgeMatch Age Verification services use multiple trusted data sources containing billions of public records to return an age validation based on the personal information you submit. This service is specifically designed to validate and protect your identity while maintaining the highest level of consumer privacy when processing online transactions.

Access to the public records allows Veratad to validate the information you provide and in some cases, depending on the nature of your purchase, to present a series of multiple choice questions based on non-credit related (“out-of-wallet”) historical facts about you. These facts are obtained by instantaneously scanning billions of public records from trusted data sources containing information that would not generally be found in your wallet if lost or stolen.

Is the information I provide secure?
Veratad’s secure 256 bit encryption technology ensures the safe delivery of the information you provide online. In addition, Veratad does not store your sensitive personal information or share (or sell) any data with other third parties. This practice assures you that unauthorized parties cannot gain access to your sensitive personal information.

What happens if I cannot be verified by the Age Verification process?
A small percentage of shoppers may not be verifiable due to limited availability of publicly available information in the age verification databases. If this happens, we will attempt to contact you via phone and email to verify your age. We typically require a copy of your driver’s license or some other form of government issued ID that verifies your date of birth.

I live outside of the U.S. Can I be verified?
Our use of Veratad’s Age Verification is based solely on U.S. records and therefore verification of individuals residing outside the U.S. is unavailable, unless you are using a military address outside the U.S. Individuals in all other countries will be subject to our manual review process described in the previous section.
