I got my ebay stuff in yesterday, and promptly wrapped a coil with it. I think I can do this, the first one came out pretty good, metered at 2.1ohms on the first try!

Now I just need an atty to put it in...

Did you wrap the coil around a screw? That looks like a good way to make it uniform. How many wraps did you use to get to 2.1?

Nope, this one I just winged it for, since I wanted to see if I could pull it off unassisted.

The fella I bought my 34ga from included a few samples of other gauges he sells, and I made my first coil ever out of some 30. I took about 2" of wick and folded it over once, then gave it 3 wraps with the wire and cut the looped end of the wick when done. It ended up looking something (ok, EXACTLY) like this:
