also, if you can, wrap a bit smaller than you want. I wrap on 17ga to get ~1/16. it kinda springs open a hair after wrapping.
I wrap then torch on the form while pulling the legs with pliers and quench as fast as I can and it stays put.

A 5/4 wrap shouldn't take very long to heat up on a Grand with AW 1600mah.
What mod are you using?
When dry burning and cleaning microcoils (particularly R41) I have noticed gunk buildup on the wire where it's hard to get at to clean. Thought I was having a bad taste bud day but upon magnified inspection of my coil, I found substantial buildup inside the bore. After a very rigorous cleaning, all was good again. To facilitate cleaning, particularly in the bore, I ordered some miniature tube cleaning wire brushes. Anybody have any better ideas, techniques?
IVe been messing around with nanocoils for a minute http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/reos-mods/483201-my-nanocoil-experiment.html
I like the flavor and vapor but didn't like the janky squonking and the TH felt lacking.
So inspired by Rip tripper's 'Tricro-coil' Tricro Coil In An Atomic RDA - YouTube
I wanted to adopt the concept to the mechanical Rio Grand.
Presenting the RM2 Bicro-coil:
To keep the resitance low I went with 26ga kanthal and took out one coil. It also made more sense to me to have the microcoil up top and the nanocoil on the bottom. 3+ wraps on a 1/16 bit and 4-5 wraps on a paperclip. came out to 1.4 ohms which I'm very happy with
Rip's video can explain it better than I can but here are the pix

Trickiest build I've done but I think it turned out well!
I wish I had two RM2s so I could better compare, but I think the TH is definitely better and the squonking feels more natural than with a cotton bed.
cheers, reoville
