Just did my first nichrome build. Did 9 wraps of 26g around a 1/16" ID @ 0.6Ω with cotton in a kayfun Lite. Think I found a new sweet spot. Really responsive, warm, and clean. Great flavor, and fog city diner :p

Now I have to make my way through all my other atties.

Pics to follow, once photobucket comes back online.

Edit: Squape done. Exact same build, also came out to 0.6Ω. Works equally well. Still no photobucket.

I finally got a microcoil that is working somewhere near what my standard coils put out. 26g K-A1, 11 wraps each putting me at about 0.7 ohms. I should remeasure as things change a bit once they're "settled in" but that's what it measured out to initially.

Very nice build there Mitey!

Hi Guys, I expect a full apology for making me read through this whole thing (I've made it to post ~2000). This is so awesome! I haven't used ANYTHING besides a ST DC carto in a tank on a vamo for the last 13 months. I have not been satisfied in a long time to say the least. Never had a dripper aside from a AVA HR that I hate, never built a coil. I can't believe the handywork of you guys with this stuff. My birthday is coming up next week so I put in an order at FastTech for 2 RBA's, 2 RDA's and a mech telescoping mod.

So............ My order isn't due to ship for several days, and I just couldn't stand waiting after reading this. I went and grabbed an IGO-W and Aga-T2 from a local store this afternoon and got to work. Unfortunately for today, I have some kanthal, ribbon and nichrome on the way, so I was stuck with 32ga that came with the kit.

I got to work with only the parts that came with the kit and some CVS rolled cotton. On the AGA I took out a screw and did a cotton U-wick and the 32ga kanthal. I made an attempt at a 8 wrap micro coil at 1.4mm ID wrapping on a small screw driver. It's settling out at 3.9ohm and working decently on my vamo at 4.5V. The 32ga is pretty springy, I hope I have better luck with 30 and 28ga monday when they arrive. Also with the 1.4 ID, the wick I was able to put through there should be better on a 1.6 or 1.7 ID

I had fun building the IGO-W dual coil. I used the same wire, ID and a 7 wrap on each side. It started out at 1.1ohm so I started kicking it off on an ego and now it's up to 2.7ohm and it's jumping all over the place on the Vamo. Not sure what the trouble is, but it's working decent at 4.5V as well. I'm sure I'll get it figured out before long. I have an Ithaca clone on the way and I can't wait to get it and the Igo-W going on a mech mod about .8ohm dual coil! Thanks for all the posts and pics and vids!

I have some pics, but photobucket is down. I'll throw them up later.

26 ka1 awg slant.jpg26 KA1, 1/16th ID, 10 wrap, 1.0ohm in my aga-t2. I started with vertical coils but I had to take the whole damn thing apart to rewick. PITA!!!!!. So I though maybe if I give it a slant, it would be easier to rewick. Sho-nuff, it's much easier. As an added bonus, the flavor really popped. I can adjust the airhole so that is comes over the top, dead center or from the bottom by twisting the top cap. She's dirty and in need of a dry burn and rewick but Dayaum!!!!!

ZW, if I have an RBA with ohms that are jumping all over the place, the first thing I do is tighten down the screws on the posts. 9 out of 10 times that'll fix it.

Thanks for the advice, that was the problem. It went from jumping 3.3-3.9ohm, now down to 1.1ohm, which is what I read of the multi-meter initially. THA *cough-cough* NKS !

I'll save every one the details as to why, but I rebuilt 3 vivi nova heads tonight with cotton and micros. all coils were built on a 1/16" drill bit using kanthal. first one was 8 wraps of 32 awg at 2.6 ohm. second was 7 wraps of 30 awg at 1.7 ohm. and the third was 8 wraps of 28 awg at 1.2 ohm. definitely breathed new life into the old vivi nova. so far the 2.6 ohm coil has had the best flavor and vapor on a vw device.

you may have cut the wire when you cinched the the screw to tighten it. It's probably just barely hanging in there.
I got my w late today, and did a quicky with their provided wick and coil.
I cut both of mine.. I wound it again with 32 of my wire, since my 30 and 28 didn't come yet.
Mine is at 1.4 ohms and is hot as hell tasting. I can sure taste the flavor. Def. need to open it up some, kinda tight draw too.

The W comes with a pretty tight draw. I was building mine today for maximum vapor so I drilled one side with 5/64 (smallest bit I had) and that was likely a mistake. 5/64 is way too big IMO, super airy, but vapor is good (after correcting the screws to hold the wires down correctly). Ill probably plug that hole and go with 2 3/64 holes on each side and try that. I think even 2 1/8 holes may be pushing it, but we'll see tomorrow.

Tried my hand at the micro for the first time.

Not too bad, but definitely room for improvement.

7 wraps of 28g coming out to right around 1.0 - 1.1 Ω

Not sure of diameter, just used the smallest precision screwdriver in my set to wrap.

Been using it for a couple of days, re-wicked once. Super easy to wick without messing up the coil. Using a cotton wick.

Top pic is right after I pulled the old wick out and dried everything off. A little dirty there. Second pic dry burn. Third pic re-wicked and good as new!

Avatar is off a hit with the first wick on this coil. Kicking out pretty good vapor on a mech.

More micro porn. I messed around a bit with the 26g. I did 11 wraps around a 1/16 bit. No idea on Ohm reading because I'm lazy. Here are some pics. It is kicking serious vapor and I'm getting some amazing flavor out of Nanna's Cream.

Thanks so much to everyone for all of the great tips and insight. I have made quite a few at this point. The pic below was my first attempt on 6-25-13
