I'm officially part of the club as of Tuesday, come on delivery man!

Do not think you'll be disappointed with an MVP. Granted some may say "batteries are batteries", and yeah that bears out truth, still yet I find the MVP a nice battery. Used the pass through feature a bit yesterday evening. Seems the cord was long enough for merely sitting her at the desk by the computer. I still may get a longer cord, or an extention. Might like to crawl into bed, watch a movie and vape while recharging. Aside from this minor concern, I so far, like the battery. "It does what it says on the tin, seems to do it well to boot." So, figure you'll like it. :)

If I get into all the technicals and want a new battery mod that has more power and whatever fine, I'll get a second. I'm looking for a good, sturdy build, reliable, durable and long lasting battery mod with some settings to tinker with and internal batteries. I couldn't find anything else that even compared to the MVP.

Am I being paranoid when I worry that cheap cables could result in a battery malfunctioning or worse yet, catching fire or exploding? (given the ongoing news about injuries and fires from e-cig malfunctions) I keep reading that we should ONLY use the cable that came with the unit.

Have any MVPs been involved in these incidents?
For the price ya can't beat monoprice

84 cents for a high end 6ft cable

Yeah, pretty much. It's just a USB cable... basically wires going directly from your USB... into the USB port of the MVP2. The only thing special about them, is they have a controlled impedance, which doesn't much matter in this case... if it works as a USB cable, it will work to charge your MVP2.

(given the ongoing news about injuries and fires from e-cig malfunctions) I keep reading that we should ONLY use the cable that came with the unit.

Most of the time, this is a manufacturer attempting (poorly) to limit their liability. In the case of USB however,... if you say it's a USB portcable... then the it must meet specific criteria from the USB spec... if not, can land yourself a huge suit for using the name (you can already land in a suit for the name anyway]. I say could, because I am not aware of it happening in a case like this... however, the charge IC within the MVP2, is a standard ~5V USB based charging circuit... so... it expects USB levels. It would be more equal or more costly for them to go outside of USB spec than to just keep within it since that is what so much is already designed around.

Also, I can't be sure... but being told to use the cable that came with it, in relation to e-cigs... has mainly been in regards to devices which are charged from the 510 connector... in that case, there are a variety of internal circuits which are different and incompatible... the charger for them is also incompatible and separate... just think the hassle saved if you just went with USB... oh wait,... a bunch of them did, to power the charger [fail]. I actually have an ego type device that just uses a cable... I don't use it much at all though... VV with LCD and all that jazz.

Have any MVPs been involved in these incidents?
I have not seen a single report such as that. I saw a report of a DNA40 VaporFlask venting smoke [no one was in danger]... and I have seen things about various ego/evod type knock-offs and even a some about mechs... but nothing like the exploding e-cig articles in regards to an MVP2.

In a new post... as not to have to 'update'...

5. This product is intended for use with the charger provided with the unit. We recommend you always use a high quality 5V 500mA USB wall charger (CE/UL Certified). Use of unauthorized chargers may lead to overheating and possible burning of items in contact with the unit. Innokin Technology is not responsible for battery and charger explosions, fires or malfunctions due to the use of a low-quality charger. This product does not come included with any wall charger.

To make things clear though... later in the manual, they tell you that the included cable, uses standard connections... including the USB connector...

Turn ON the small pin switch in bottom of iTaste MVP, connect cable into USB OUTPUT port (DC 5V , maximum output current 0.5A, the 3 most popular power connectors for iPhone / iPods, MiniUSB (Motorola / Blackberry), a Micro USB (Motorola / Nokia / LG / Samsung). Turn OFF the small pin switch when finish charged your electronics .

So,... the cable is standard... the output is standard... and the input calls for a standard 5V 500mA connection.

BTW: I have not even unrolled the included cable, I have only ever charged via a standard USB cable... including using a car cig-usb adapter that has two output ports... I normally only ever used a single port... for my phone.

IIRC....the founder of Monoprice is the SON of the founder/owner of Monster Cable.......
"Number One Son" was upset that his Dad was overcharging for his product(s) and decided to act......
Having purchased MANY cables - of all types/sizes - from Monoprice....I can SAFELY attest to their quality.
And....they stand behind their product(s) with great customer service...
Can't speak for ALL "cheap cable" companies.....But Monoprice has - and will continue to have - my business!!:D
Happy (vaping) Trails!

That's gotta be a tense thanksgiving dinner in that household! (hopefully they're well stocked up on their favorite juices to cut through the tension [emoji41])

The son of Noel Lee is not the founder of Monoprice. Noel Lee's son is named Kevin. Kevin founded the headphone company Sol Republic after the deal between Monster Cable and Dr. Dre ended.

file charges?! I think you meant 'fire charges' ;)

Whatever the case may be,... make sure your intentions are clear from the start and have a witness :)
