And one day, I'll be an ex-vaper.

:thumb:

I find its unfortunate that those who know nothing about vaping frown on it when you tell them you have quit smoking. I’ve met some really really ignorant people. Typically, I don’t bother getting into all the differences between vaping and smoking because to be honest they won’t even listen. Interesting how typically those same people will applaud folks who have used the gum, patch or even the pill. Yet, vaping in my opinion is no different than any of those methods.

They all have their own risks.

My point, if I had one, was :: If the Vape had never been invented and never existed in any form, ever, how many of us would still be on the cigs .. ?? I know I would be and I'm happy to admit it .. I liked smoking ..

Tamping down that fresh pack, unwrapping the plastic string, pulling that silver foil out, sliding a new smoke out, holding it pressed between my lips as I flicked that old Zippo .. smelling the lighter fluid aroma mixed with that puff, inhaling it in a satisfying fashion ..

and the first cig of the day .. ?? Don't even get me started .. :)

There's something comforting about the smell of a Zippo lighter! Even the click when you open it sounds inviting! These days it just reminds me of Boy Scout camping trips. Rubbing sticks together wasn't nearly as appealing!

I have an onnery streak in me, , I would listen with full eye contact to them,, then I would say something to the effect,,, let's reverse this conversation,,, 'you do realize you don't have to eat given the amount of body fat you are carrying around '

People tend to stop judging others when they themselves are not so perfect
I agree. I'm pretty aggressive by nature (so I'm told) and can spar with the best of them and usually come out victorious :) and I absolutely hear you because I am kind of that type. I have not mellowed or anything but certain things are just not worth it to me to point out to others or even to make them see the light. I'm a definite type A and used to make myself nuts -- so now I try to make a conscious effort to pick and choose so that I don't aggravate myself as much :) :)

I was almost as pleased with myself as I was when I taught myself how to raise one eyebrow when I was twelve.

I met a new guy at work today when he was with a monitor from another department who visits where I work at times. A likeable enough fellow. I work outside.

We walked around a bit and he lit a smoke. Most of the visitors to my work are wack-jobs who think helium ballons are going to murder the planet. So I knew this guy was not one of them.

I pulled out my flashdrive pod and took a tastey vape. On exhale he asked what I was smoking. I replied it is a grape flavor. He then asked what was I smoking it with. I told him it's a refillable pod system and showed it to him. He then asked if they are easy to find. Him being a local to the town I work in I told him of a nearby shop with both the pod and the juice.

He did not say anything more about what I was using but said he had tried vaping for about 3 months but it didn't work for him. The hassles of leaks, charging batteries and that it made him cough more so he said those caused him to decide to go back to smoking.

Later we were on an elevator to go look at some records. I did the sneak a puff thing and when I exhaled he said he may try vaping again.

Spock was one of my early influences, too. I can still do the "Live Long and Prosper" salute--though only with my right hand, nowadays.

Non smoker, ex smoker, someone who quit smoking, etc, I dont smoke and I never will and I personally consider my self an ex, non, and someone who definitely quit smoking. Smoking is smoke and I dont do it anymore. The world will eventually come around

I'll try to re-explain. The meaning of the word "quit" in "I quit smoking" adds a more specific meaning IMO when compared to the generalized "I don't do it anymore". For me, vaping made it possible for me to stop smoking, not quit smoking. To quit smoking is, in my own personal view, by classical/old definition a very lenghty struggle or process of exhaustively suffering from severe cravings resulting from the really heavy addiction that is smoking. Whereas to stop smoking is, also in my own personal view, to achieve that same goal of no longer smoking, but to achieve it in such a way that the struggle and the suffering are not there. So there's a profound difference in quality of life that's characterizing and real, and, IMO to use the word "stop" rather than "quit" in this particular sense accurately captures and acknowledges the reality of that difference. Anti-vapers WANT people to suffer needlessly. Which is why anti-vapers are not only immoral, but also INHERENTLY immoral in addition to that. And genuinely shamelessly so.

I had some family come in around the holidays - cousins - 3 sisters- that I have not seen in over 10 years. We talk on occasion (usually funerals) but are not super close and I never mentioned that I stopped smoking.

So they came in and we met for dinner. They walked from their hotel. I drove. None of them ever smoked. After dinner, one cousin asked if I wanted her to come outside with me while I smoked (the good 'ole days). I told her that I stopped smoking over 6 years ago. You could see she was surprised. I did not say that I now vape. I just said it matter-of-factly and did not open up a discussion about it.

When we left and were outside I took out my mod and that particular cousin said, "Oh but you use THAT. I thought you said you stopped". I was mildly irritated but before I could say anything one of the other sisters who is a doctor said, "Good for you cousin. It is a better alternative". Her exact words. And I vaped away and said goodbye.

It goes to my other post that it was not important enough for me to attempt to justify my vaping. I am going to do what I want to do and be very happy about it.

Thank goodness there's doctors out there who actually care for people and who also act accordingly without hesitation. A prime example of a highly commendable person I would think, and the kind of behavior we should not so easily take for granted, as to create order into chaos is no simple task.

Pffft, I don't care if others think vaping and smoking are the same.

My heart knows and that is all that matters to me.

Depends on how much patience I have left. On some days I'll calmly and kindly explain to them why they are mistaken. On other days I will demonstrate exactly why I'm addicted to nicotine and why no one should ever try to keep me from it.

I always ask where exactly did they hear this at, and if they truly believe it. If most have any common sense, they should understand that anything combusting is not good and the by products are very toxic like carbon monoxide etc. I say vapor doesn't combust and for that simple reason common sense should tell you all you need to know. I definitely go into the big tobacco aspect and how vaping is losing them money, but I also ask them to answer this question seriously, if you had to be put into a room for a day with fire and smoke and have to inhale those fumes all day or be put into a room with vapor , which do you honestly thing is more dangerous?

Yep. For the most part, I just let it go. If they seem to have a decent attitude and real interest, I discuss and enlighten. But in cases like what I did in the post above - it's not really about them understanding vaping, to me. It just annoys me no end when people spout off with attitude about anything as if they're an authority, when it's obvious they're worse than ignorant.

I spent my time trying to master the Vulcan nerve grip thing. Never got it to work well.
OMG, how many times we used to do that to each other in elementary school! These days, people almost always get ticked off when I do it to them. People just aren't as fun as they used to be. I don't remember Spock ever being charged with assault, or being served a restraining order. Sheesh!

edit: I was joking, y'all! I just amuse myself. I can imagine how an adult would react if I went up & gave them the Vulcan move! :)

Yep , like you said, today its assault or perhaps even abuse. What's it going to be like 20 years down the road? I bet people will be sued or arrested for just looking at someone wrong.
