NOOB needs advice

Welcome, Skip!

One thing you could do is trundle to your local Walgreens or many grocery stores and buy a Blu disposable. They're about $10, won't last long, and taste terrible--but it may be enough to prove the concept for you before you take the larger jump. It worked for me, and the reason I'm here.

All else follows. Personally, I started with cig look-alikes and do like them. They're small, light, handy to have around, and I can work on the computer while clamping it between my teeth. Sure the vape isn't perfect, but it's pretty good.

I rapidly graduated to a Volt X2 (larger battery, still an 808 thread) and a Vision eGo Spinner (eGo thread, I got an adapter). But that's for later--my mother is using her cig-alikes and one slightly larger battery and has no plans at all to upgrade. She's happy with those.

You won't know where the cig-alike fails you, if it even does, until you try it out. Many to most of us started with those. Some abandon them. Some don't.

juice flavor is important! I find that my optimal, home-made, all-mine juice is 22mg nicotine, menthol with a hint of chocolate and cinnamon. It kills a craving of mine dead. I dream about that flavor at night I like it so much right now.

That can take a bit of questing to find. I don't enjoy the sweet flavors very much, but do like mints and some of the sharper fruit flavors.

Your mileage will vary. To start, try staying close to your cig taste (tobacco flavors are never like tobacco, more like tea, but they do get close enough). Worry about the rest of it later if you find that isn't good enough.

I actually started with a manual 510 battery that was rather small. It left a lot to be desired.

About a month later, I got my first big battery mod...The Totally Wicked Screwdriver mk2. Then a month later got some ego batteries.

I was always a fan of low resistance atomizers.

I vaped exclusively for one year, then I sadly fell off the wagon for close to a year.

I started vaping again a few months ago and decided to go VV. I now own a Lambo and a ProVari. I have also fallen in love with my Z Atty U.

If you want to increase your chances of quitting smoking, nothing can be more discouraging than constantly dying batteries.

This is why I will suggest at least a 650 mah VV ego battery.

I haven't read every post in this thread so excuse me if this has already been stated, but.... If there is a brick and mortar store near you try to find out if they have a "juice bar" or tasting area. The store near me that I buy most of my juice and hardware from has one and they will let you try out all of their juices and equipment there in the store for free. This could be a very big advantage to you.

Welcome! I had beginning stages of COPD and quit with vaping. You can do it bud.

Ego twist is a nice machine until you discover mods. I've been vaping for 18 months and I spend $200 bucks on juice, twice a year. Works out to less than $40 bucks a month. Cartos are good but mute flavor. Drip atties are better but rebuildable atomizers are best. The wick kind I find more flavorful than the metal

Skip - if you ever come back - I just want to add here that I have at least one "expensive" mod - the Smoktech VMax (nice, but admittedly not as nice as a ProVari) - and it sits, while my Twist and Vivi Nova are slung around my neck right now. A VV eGo battery can be - and I think is - much more than a temporary stepping-stone to fancier mods.

I think a very important point is that, in my opinion and others that I respect, a VV eGo-class battery will very likely be a valuable addition to, and not a replacement for, the fancier stuff. It's just a very nice "weapon" to have in your "arsenal", and not an end-all and be-all. And I think the same can be said of a ProVari, a VMax, a Zmax, a Reo, a Darwin, a Buzz Pro, or any other single PV/APV/call it what you will. There is no one "right answer", but the Twist/Vivi is IMO a "good answer", and a great place to start, or to linger for quite a while.

Welcome to the forum, Shaggy. What are you vaping on right now, and do you have any specific questions?

Also, as "a noob", I'd like to get your feedback on whether or not you find this thread - and specifically, my contributions to it - confusing, helpful, or somewhere in between? If you could "bite the bullet" and read the whole thing, your input as a "noob" could be really helpful.

My Number 1 goal is to get people off of cigarettes, and if I'm going about it the wrong way, I'd really like to know about it.

Thanks, and again, welcome. (And as always, you're welcome to PM me, and I'm always willing to give free phone help to the truly confused and desperate).

This is my suggestion:

Go to Altsmoke.com. Register and log in. In your cart put one ego-c twist 1000 mah black ($25.99), one ego series USB battery charger ($7.95), one vision Vivi Nova 3.5 ml tank with head #1 1.8 ohm and head #2 2.4 ohm and no extra heads ($9.95), choose a 15 ml bottle of AltLiquid juice of your choosing in 24 mg ($6.95), use the discount code FIRSTORDER for 10% off. This totals $45.76. Then add shipping.

This is the MINIMUM to get started. Eventually you'll need backups of everything, including another Twist, a wall adaptor, and more juice. 15 ml will probably last you three days. Lots of juice vendors. When you get it all, charge battery til green light shows, remove top of tank, tighten the head that comes with your tank, pour the juice in the tank avoiding center post up to the top of the wicks, replace top that has the tip, screw onto battery, screw bottom of twist to the 4.0 volt mark. Vape while pressing button (button should light up). If it doesn't light up, click button 5 times until it blinks. I didn't recommend the small Vivi Nova because then a syringe would be needed.

I first bought the cig look-a-likes and promptly sent them back. My suggestion is just one of MANY. I use these everyday, including my 73 year old Mother.

Happy Vaping!

I am not gone!! Ok I watched the videos. I ordered the Appolo free e cig. Pay day I will probally do what Rj and several others sugested. I was poking about on all the links videos and stuff and like the eJoy twist. Manual is what I am leaning toward. Need to find a good tobaco flavor. I smoke Winston light now so I am open to recomadtions on that. A friend gave my wife a set up of NJoy e cigs will try them when she gets them. I really do appreciate all the feed back. There is a store in Orlando I may swing over there and see what is up. I am still open to ideas.

If you use Facebook, here is the Central FL page. https://www.facebook.com/groups/268374536603081/ Really nice group and they do have meets and juice tastings. There is another store over your way, but I forget where exactly.

There is also a central FL group on here: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/florida-vapors-club/319622-central-fl-round-up.html

I sure am glad that my post didn't discourage you! And the Apollo free ecig gives you a chance to see if you think it might work. But don't let that stop you if it doesn't work perfectly....the regular devices are much, much better.

I also like Apollo's classic menthol. Tastes a bit like a cig. I don't order big bottles of juice cause I don't know works yet. I do like Backwoods Brews Malty Toffee....Pretty darn tasty. You can always order a few small bottles and mix them to get a better flavor! Once you get to something other than prefilled carts that is.

Good Luck and Welcome.

No one was discourgeing at all. I reenact WW II and people can get very passionate about thier hobbies. I am going to have to figure how Retro a e cig for that.

LOL...there are lots of mods out there and even a dedicated area on ECF for it!

The other store is in Edgewater so I think the Orlando store is closer. They have done several meets at those stores and there are lots of people on here from Florida....I am over in the Lake/Sumter area... I want to go to one of the meets...but I HATE driving in Orlando.

The average user vapes about 3-4ml a day, some more or less. I tend to use about 25ml a week.

This, but count on using more. Always have backups, always overestimate on juice usage.

Also, if it isn't intimidating to you, the Twist and Mini Vivi Nova suggested is an excellent setup, but don't worry about all that math. You don't need to be able to calculate watts and amps and volts (although you may well want to learn all that stuff eventually), most people dial their VV in by taste, they don't care what the watts are. Taste is what matters to most people, not power.

Glad we didn't lose you. I was worried when I got home last night and started reading through this thread and then couldn't find you in any of the posts! Yes we all have passion for our individual hardware. The important thing is we all are rooting for you to get/stay off cigs. The downside to flavors is that it is a totally individual thing. We can tell you what flavor WE think taste like such and such, but ultimately your taste buds will tell you if they do or don't. For me, I just get samples, samples and more samples with different nic strengths till I find what works.

Another thing to remember, your taste buds will change. I thought, yeah, right, sure (insert eye roll here) but they do! I am actually tasting the subtle flavors in the vapor. Way cool! Hydrate yourself constantly. If you have any questions, be prepared to get many answers. One of them will work for you. That is the cool thing about this forum.

Again glad you stuck around!! Welcome to your new journey to get healthier!!

I agree. He won't need all that stuff until he starts modding so he can retro his PV! :D

When I first tried this 3 years ago, it was harder. Lots of fiddling around with stuff etc..... A simple, inexpensive set up now such as the twist and a nova tank will work great! Heck even the cartos are better than when I first started. I use my vv vtube now and a nova. I dial it up or down according to the juice I am using. I also have a Tgo for out and about!
