Spoiler: some useful tips below. :)

So, I’ve been using one since last Friday – and just loving it…!

Flavour is simply great (I was skeptical at first because it’s a top airflow atomizer) and cloud production is also good (not a cloud-chasing device, but great nevertheless). The vapour is very silky as well.

I thought at first that it would be impossible to remove the deck without emptying the tank. I was wrong. The chimney rotates freely, but does not come apart from the tank (a negative point for cleaning, though). But that also means that as long as the tank is not topped off, it is possible to remove the deck and rewick it on the fly, without losing any juice – provided that you keep the tank upside down, of course. :D

About the wicking: I had some troubles at first. If you’re going to thread the cotton inside the juice holes as suggested in the leaflet, you must do it just right, otherwise you’ll get dry-burns, or a gurgling vape (absolutely no leaking, thought – to remove the excess liquid, you must turn it upside down, to allow it to run thru the air holes).

But there’s this great method created by some guy on YouTube: cut the cotton tips a little longer, as if you intended to thread the wick into the juice holes and all the way down to the bottom of the deck. But instead of doing that, simply fold the cotton tips under the coil (you might want to raise the coils a little, to allow the cotton beneath to be nicely tucked but without too much pressure. This way, the folded cotton will plug the holes from above, but without actually blocking them. And you’ll never get a dry-hit, because the bottom half of your coils is now sitting between two layers of nicely moist cotton. This method has been working quite well for me since Saturday. Never a leak, never a gurgle, never a dry hit.

Another issue might be refilling the tank. Every top-filling tank can have issues with a flooded chamber. Many people try closing the airflow when refilling. But that’s not really a solution, is it? Even with the airflow closed, there’s still air coming inside from the chimney. The chamber will still be at atmospheric pressure, and so is your (now open) tank, and the level difference between the tank and the bottom of the chamber will try to force juice in it. The only thing keeping this from happening is the cotton blocking the juice holes, right?

Well, try this:

Close the airflow

By all means, have you bottle prepared in the other hand. :)

But before you open the tank, firmly plug the top of the drip tip with a finger.

Your chamber is now completely sealed off. Any juice trying to enter it would have to create positive pressure inside the chamber. And as long as you keep that chamber sealed until you close the tank again, no juice is going to force it’s way, because it would have to compress the air above it.

I have never had issues with a gurgling chamber after refilling this way.

Bottom line: this tank is simply great, once you learn how to use it. Let me tell you, it’s one of my top favorites so far, and believe me, I have collected a few for the last seven years. :)

It’s like a Uwell Crown, with it’s great vapour production, but with a better flavor and without it’s leaking issues. :)

Great tips here from everyone,I see that many people enjoy this rta.
Mine is on it's way along with a smok alien.
Let's see of it will retire my v1 aromamizer.
Is the airflow enough to cool builds like fused 28/32 claptons at 100 watts?
What are the limits of this rta?

If you build as you suggest it is going to get very hot after a few pulls. In fact, with most build I have tried the tank gets hot even at 50 watts. The coils are tucked into a very small area once the chamber is closed. The coils actually sit in those ridges at the top nearly touching the air holes. I still do very much enjoy the tank but it runs hotter than several others I use.

This is overall a great tip for evry rta without a jfc. My bellus and tornado nano for example are still pretty much hit or miss with staying dry when filling but this procedure fixes it.

Also for most , dunno if it helps with the engines design, is just turning the tank upside down after filling to let additional pressure from screwing the top on escape.

Do those 2 little things and 95% of filling problems will go away.

On the engine now that i heared so much good about it i might order one soon. A shop here in germany is currently selling it for 20€ which is dirt cheap so im somewhat forced to buy it now ;). Even if its just to get a dedicated tc tank or whatever.

Now if only there were any smok alien mods around somewhere in germany that arent stupidly overpriced...

I have two of them, 1 SS 1 black. If I saw it on sale, I'd even get a third, that's how happy I am with it and how well it matches my vaping style (like any product, it is not a perfect fit for every customer). And if you find the Alien at a good price, you won't be disappointed. I managed to pick one up on a flash sale (probably wouldn't have bought at full price) and it's exceeded my expectations. It's a very nice mod.

Just got two black today.
Wicking was a bit hit or miss, but now I have it thanks to @jpargana
Now this tank is vaping great @ .18 ohms NiFe52.
Didn't get a single gurgle or spitback.
What I did do was to have the coils less than a mm above the posts. Caused a partial short. Having the coils shy of the top of the post works wonders...
Update after a few tanks get through them, but I have no complaints for the first hour.
Great build quality, easy to coil and wick, once you pay attention. Just lay the cotton over the juice flow holes, don't stuff them. Leave that for Thanksgiving turkeys.

I've had my OBS Engine for a couple weeks or so now and I'm really liking it. I tried it with the stock coils and wicked it similar to how I wick my Limitless Plus RTDA. It was a bit spitty at first but, settled after a few pulls. I refilled it a couple times it was still a bit spitty and gurgly and kept getting a fine mist, liquid wasn't vaporizing completely.

I changed out the coils with some small fused claptons and changed my wicking style. I used a bit more cotton, but cut the wicks a little shorter. I had the ends sitting on the wick holes with a some cotton going into the holes, just not as much as before. It worked much better, no more popping or spitting and the misting is gone. I can refill it without problems, it doesn't flood, gurgle or spit. The only issue I have is if it sits overnight with juice in the tank, I will have some gurgle, but it clears up pretty quick.

Overall, I really like this tank the flavor is outstanding.

Here's my update after using the tank for a day and a half.
Vaping great, flavor and vapor is on par with my Supremes.
No leaking, condensation, no juice outside the tank whatsoever.

I did have a wee problem with the fill.
I have some absolutely clear juice. I have eyes that need glasses for anything close enough to be a danger.
So, pop the side fill open (I really like the way this is implemented) and start filling, slowly but steadily.
After a bit, I notice a cool wet feeling. Yikes! I overfilled the tank. What an idiot move, but entirely my fault.
I'm going to dye the juice bright green now...

If you're on the fence about this tank, I couldn't give it a higher recommendation.

That's the one problem with a top side fill. Incredibly convenient, extremely difficult to figure out how much you filled the tank without being able to see the top of the juice. Still worth the tradeoff for the great performance.

I'm on refill #73, build #4. It is definitely my favorite RTA of 2016. I've likely run more liquid through this tank than any other single tank I have ever owned.

I admire your record keeping. I keep records of when I wicked and wired and try to keep juice/tank records but never bothered tracking number of fills/builds. I really want to get a couple of these tanks for the stash when I next allow myself some tank purchases.

Yes, with my Billow v3+ I tip it on a 45 and try to fill until the point the air bubble is a bit under the top edge of the glass still. I try and leave a bit of air in my straight top fill tanks like the boreas as well as I think a bit of air helps with the burping after a fill.

I am considering picking up an Engine. My current favorite large vapor production tank is the limitless plus. For those that have both, could someone do a quick compare and contrast for me to see if it is worth getting?

Both produce good clouds, the L+ more. Flavor, IMO, is better in the Engine. If you lay the L+ on its side, it will leak (a little or a lot depending how you wick it. I would never carry the L+ in my pocket. The Engine I can carry anywhere. Juice consumption is higher in the L+.

They are really very different tanks. I have and enjoy both. For my ADV it's the Engine, not the L+.

My 2 cents
This is by far my new favorite rda. It is very innovative, and well designed.
the air flow adjustment allows wide open DTL and also MTL.
I'll need to get a few more as backups for the FDAapocalypse

I believe many of the issues with gurgling on refill can be resolved by wicking it with rayon down thru the holes. I've refilled twice and topped it off a few more with no gurgling.

I've got it on a PICO. I needed to Dremel the battery cap a bit but it fits great
Along with this leather case
$2.77 Authentic Iwodevape Protective PU Leather Sleeve Case for Eleaf iStick Pico 75W Mod at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping (btw, this is one of the best leather case I've gotten from FT)
I can't even tell it overhangs by a mm

Does anyone know of a place to pick up a spare deck for the Engine? I like to have a spare deck built and ready in my kit for those quick changes when I'm at work. Thanks!

Can't find anyone selling one online but the best spare deck to have is another complete tank.:D
