I got my OBS Engine five days ago and I set it up using the supplied coils. It works fine with no spitback like some report but I do have occasional popping. I have re-wicked it twice to try and stop the popping but no luck. I am about ready to try some different coils and see if that will stop it from popping. Aside from the occasional noise it works great and vapes almost as well as my TF-RDTA from smok. They both have almost exactly the same build deck. The smok never pops or spits and blows bigger clouds with comparable flavor to the Engine. If I can stop the popping I will be happy with the purchase.
Try making the wicks completely touching the bottom,I used to have gurgling, spit back, and popping,it all went away since I changed my wicking technique, coils can have an effect but I think wicking is key with rtas, you just have to find the key to the puzzle and the best way to do that is to try different ways of wicking it until you find the one that suits you,I know there's peeps here that swear to wicking it by having there wicks just covering the holes,I've tried that and it ain't for me,others tuck they're wicks under the coils, flood city for me when I tried it,the only way I've been happy with it is the way mentioned at the beginning,we all have our little tricks to make our tanks perform to our liking, you gotta find yours bud, good luck and you still need help don't hesitate to ask,am sure someone here will hook you up;-)

I'm getting no popping using fused claptons in mine, it might be the coils.

GURGLING - I have a pro tip from the one and only Roxynoodle, she says laying the engine completely on it's side while refilling keeps hers from any gurgling. IIRC, She wicks with rayon and has it cut to just cover each hole.

I just refilled mine for the first time. I have my cotton fluffy stuffed through each hole and almost touching the very bottom. I must be one of the lucky ones, no dry hits or gurgles so far.

You convinced me. I've got some fused claptons around that I will stick in tomorrow with a new wick and place the wick touching the bottom. I have refilled the tank a few times and so far no gurgling problem. I basically wicked it the way I did my Smok rta but I think this one needs a different approach. I know about the fact that popping usually results from not enough wick material so I stuffed it on the second round and it still popped. I will go at it again tomorrow.

Let me know how it worked out for you, don't go crazy with cotton though, just snug and cut the wicks past the outer ring just a touch, then grab the ends with twisers and place them in the holes making sure holes are sealed up,and touching the deck and you should be good to go;-)

So...today I rebuilt my OBS Engine and put in some fused clapton coils premade from coilmaster. This is not my first Rodeo I own other rta's. I have watched many youtube videos about building this rta and there are as many different methods as there are videos. I built it this time with the cotton just touching the base. I use Kendo Vape cotton and fluff it up nicely. It is performing far better than the twisted wire coils that were supplied with the product. A big improvement. No gurgling and only slight spitback.

I still get some popping but I guess it is just a characteristic of this rta. I can say with the new build that I get far fewer pops than with the OBS supplied coil. I am now getting big clouds and good flavor. No complaints. I am guessing the occasional popping has to do with the tank design. I can live with it as it is a nice smooth flavorful vape.

I use cotton bacon v2, never been a big fan of kendo for tanks as I don't like its absorption capabilities,my tanks have always popped badly on me whenever I use it,I know you're supposed to dab the cotton and pulse it to get to soak and I've done all that but still can get it to work for me,I use twisted coils in mine 28 g dual and 26 g dual and it's as smooth as silk,I can almost guarantee you that your popping is wick related,it's just my opinion though, try using cotton bacon if you have some and have your wicks really touching bottom,I push mine down until they make good contact with the base;-)

I've had my cotton nice and snug in my coils before,in this tank and others and still got pops.
Also popping usually means a couple things
1. Not enough wick

2. Not enough power....the ejuice is boiling and spitting/popping the juice instead of vaporizing it.

3. RTAs that wick very efficiently will usually pop pretty bad after a period of not using it. As we know coils (especially advanced coils) hold a small degree of liquid. After a period of rest the coil becomes super saturated with EJuice that as a cold coil warms up to it's temp will boil the juice instead of vaporizing it.

Find something that works for you and stick to it

I'm just a new guy on this forum and I have to say after my first few posts several of you folks jumped right in to help. I'm impressed. I'm just a retired American living in Thailand and I usually stay to the local forum. This is my first adventure onto this forum and it has been an eye opener. Really nice friendly community. Think I'll stay awhile.

Yup, I'm the same. Crackle and snap on the first few puffs, then smooth. I don't even pay attention to it anymore.

You have all been so nice I feel I owe you closure. Today I again re-wicked my OBS Engine and tried something very different than my usual rta approach. I wicked it with far less cotton than I would consider normal. On my 3mm coils I used what would be even less than the amount I would normally use for 2.5mm coils. It worked. I have no popping no spitback and no gurgling. In short, my OBS Engine is performing perfectly. I have no idea why this particular rta likes so little cotton for the wicks but it works. Frankly I expected massive spitback and popping from so little cotton but not on the OBS Engine. It is purring along perfectly and I would now rate it as one of the best I have used.

Oh man that's great news bud,am so happy for you,I know the feeling when you finally figure out what works best, did you have the wicks touch the bottom? Thanks for taking the time to report back,I hope you will enjoy the engine for a long time to come and hope we get to chat soon on another product on the forum, have a Great weekend and vape safe;-)

I placed them this time just short of the bottom. So no, they are not touching the bottom. On my previous attempts I did have it touching the bottom as so many had advised. I have been vaping it all day using this new setup and it has never failed to vape perfectly. I have even refilled it once and get a little spitback on the first pull but after that all is perfect. This product wants far less density of wick than any other I have used.

Ok left air flows open and it was worse, weird right? Cause after a few pulls it's ok,oh well still love the thing though;-)

I do not think simply closing the airflow will have any effect on the flooding of the base.
That's because even with the airflow closed, air will still enter the chamber thru the chimney. So, no real positive pressure to counter the rise of e-liquid coming from the tank when you open the fill port.
However, *maybe* closing the airflow *and* closing off the mouth of the driptip with your finger while you have your fill port open would help? That way, air would be effectively trapped inside the chimney, keeping the juice from coming up into the chamber?

Just my two cents. It may be worth a try. :)
