Guys, from what I gather you boil it to cleanse it of any taste that might be in it. I believe Pete B said he doesn't bother boiling it. It's not to sterilize it, it's to remove any odor that "might" be in it from processing. That's why the use "sterilized, virgin, pure, handy dandy" or whatever types.

Personally I would NOT use whole q-tips. Just rip the cotton off the stick. Boiling the plastic stick might make a real horrid taste and defeat the purpose of boiling in the first place. Just pull the cotton off the tips and place in boiling water. No need to hold them in, it should get saturated after a few minutes. And you can't over boil it. Let it go for 5 - 10 minutes or so. Over "cookin'" ain't possible IMHO.

I think you would do better with just a tiny piece-- it might take ten of the strands to equal what I use of the P&C. I use pliers around the widest part and needle-nose to pull the chimney off. To replace the chimney on top of the flavor wick I usually use my fingers, with a final sending it home with the pipe part of the pliers.

To be honest, I'm a bit afraid o using the needlenose to pull that thing off... I have accidentally bent more stuff, using pliers, even needlenose... really wouldn't want to cave in the chimney because my strength suddenly became bionic with pliers in my hand... rofl! So I'll try to get it off just with my fingers... if I can't, then I might try the pliers, so GENTLY... seriously those things scare me, I really have messed up a lot of stuff just because I used pliers instead of my fingers.

I don't boil my cotton but I have organic cotton. The boiling is to remove chlorine or other chemicals from cotton. Good point on the plastic sticks. It may be better to remove stick before boiling and use a fork or strainer to remove it from boiled water

Ok, I watched the video about disassembling and cleaning... one thing i wanted to ask (I can't go full-screen with the video or it the image just stops dead, runs out of video RAM, so I have to keep the video small) -- when you put that chimney back onto the coil.. it just goes smack down on top of the flavor wick?

I dont boil...personal preference...never tasted the differnce and less pain in the but. if you use sterile cotton (regardless of organic or regular) they both were treated with hydrogen peroxide which wont hurt you. First couple of puffs will taste a little off but they do with boiled as well. After that you are good to go. I assume your rebuilding a protank? I dont use a flavor wick..it just mutes the taste and slows your draw down. I like a big airy draw with lots of vapor. if your watching videos i recommend Rip Trippers...he is a little exicable but his videos are great. Pbusardo is good to but he rambles a lot of other stuff as well.

A plier phobia, eh? Seriously though Andria, those chimneys are pretty solid, as long as you hold the body of the coil by the bottom and use the pliers to gently pull straight up on the chimney, it will come off without a problem, might have to wiggle it a bit at first to loosen it.

No not rebuilding, just trying to clean the coil for the T3S I've been using all week, it started tasting like ... last night... heh

And I might have missed it in all this frenzy, did anyone ever say, do you put the chimney right down onto the flavor wick? It LOOKS like that's what he did, but it's hard to be sure with that small an image... my video RAM is a constant nuisance, this PC wasn't made for "media"... it's an old one running XP Pro, with 4 gb of which I can only use 3...

Heh... well I guess I have strong hands already from all the typing... I've destroyed eyeglasses, and all kinds of other stuff, because pliers magnify strength so much, and you don't realize it, till it's too late... yikes!

I'll try fingers first, if that doesn't work, then I'll give the pliers a gentle trial...

On my smoktech i rip those things off.. its even easier then the eroll atties grab the chimney with two fingers and wiggle it.

I had been using those tiny bottles of vodka ($1) for rinsing out my syringes. I dumped one into a tall glass of cranberry juice and drank it-- was interesting. I put base into it, and am now using that for rinsing the syringes. I use the denture tablet method for the coil heads.

Hmm.. trying to think of anymore questions about this... oh I know... when I watched the video, the flavor wick wasn't really all that bad, so he just burned it the same way he did the coil itself... is that possible, or would that really bad taste indicate that the flavor wick is too gunked up to bother trying that? Of course, I don't have anything resembling a torch so maybe that question is academic.

When you get the chimney off you will see there is sort of a cut out channel in the side of the atty that the wicks stick out of. You just lay the flavor wick across with the ends in those channels. Then put the chimney back on over top of them.

Yes, the chimney goes on top of the flavor wick.

If the original flavor wicks are ok, they can be reused. But I find they're usually not ok.

Flavor wicks may not be needed, depending on the viscosity (thickness) of the juice blend. High VG is thicker, may not need 'em. High PG is thinner, and in my experience they are needed to avoid leaks.

I don't boil my cotton, either. Figure after 40+ years of smoking, there's nothing there that's really going to do any more damage. And as little as is used, how much is there??

I'm not sure, but I think you're referring to a rebuild video? You wouldn't use a torch to do a dry burn on the coil, but you would use one when you rebuild a coil.

After you remove the chimney, remove the wick that sits in that groove, and then you'll see the coil itself with a wick runnng through it. You would then screw the atty, minus the chimney, back into the bottom of your clearo, screw that onto your battery, and hit your power button in short pulses until your coil stops smoking and glows evenly. Then unscrew the clearo bottom back off the battery, unscrew the atty from the clearo bottom, rinse it good, place a clean flavor wick in the groove on top of the coil, replace chimney and the plastic grommet that goes on the chimney post and you're good to go.
