Bigbells, I got really curious about this, & dug out the boxes my nautilus's came in. I left the pyrex glass & tank tops in the boxes to store them safely. That chimney does not move. It's attached to the top. When you unscrew the top, that chimney comes out with it & cannot be removed. Allegedly. But you've probed that theory wrong, huh?

Here is a way to REALLY amp up your sub-hobby!! Dragon :D It is on my wishlist there. Hopefully not forever.

I like that one too, but I already have an older version from them on one of my Vamo's, so can't justify buying this one.
Too many places to spend the $$$$
Thanks for pointing that out :p

SmokieJoe (our ECF founder and author of the article) has a thread about it, here on ECF
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/general-vaping-discussion/613919-ecf-founder-me-opinion-piece-cnn-com-today.html

I wrote, to pat him on the back for a well written article, and to hit the "like" button ... We need a lot more articulate people voicing their opinions along with him.

Ok, Update on my nautilus problem. To recap, with the coils that came with it... incredibly horrendous. Flavor not nearly what it should be. In fact downright nauseating.

So got a chance to install a new bvc. Better. Normal flavor of the juice is back but really weak compared to my i30.

So, the bottom line... the naut sux IMO. But again, that's me. YMMV. Still haven't found a thing better than the i30 for me. Especially sitting on an SVD.

At least it's not just me that's underwhelmed. I wouldn't say that the flavor is bad, just not that good. And even the bvc coils require almost as much power as dual coils. I will admit that the size was nice today when I had to be out and about all day, but then I usually bring along a spare bottle of liquid anyhow. :D

My Davides are on the airy end of the spectrum, but the point is that the latest isn't always the greatest.

It's really well built. Love the control over air flow. Best I've seen. But the flavor just isn't there. And I hate that you have to take it off the mod to fill it.

Even hearing from some who are not impressed with a Nautilus paired with a BVC, I am still amazed by the amount of positive press it has gotten and the length of time that the positive press has lasted. About 3 months I think!

Flavor-wise and vapor-wise, my Nautilus is right there at the top, tied with the Innokin i30s. The fact that the Nautilus holds a good 5ml makes it my preferred device between the two. As Gary has pointed out, it would be better if it could be top-filled.

I don't believe I've read of anyone other than myself experiencing a hardware failure with the Nautilus. Despite that failure, I remain on the Nautilus/BVC bandwagon.

More vape mail!
View attachment 381585View attachment 381587View attachment 381592

It was a"blem" from Provape.
need to get a better picture though!

Congratulations! :) So wanted one of those. Guess you have to have something to look forward to. Did you find the blemish?

I just couldn't resist! I didn't even know they had Blems. Other than that, you can only find them at dealers and the closest is in the San Francisco aria I'm not gettin down there any time soon.
The only thing that I can find wrong with it is that they used a different sight glass for the display and it isn't quite flush like my V2 mini. The window also magnifies the display and the red is easy to read. My v2 has blue. This one is a 2.5 model.

Should have read more posts. :toast: on your new addition to the family.

Hi everyone! I'm looking at the mini davides and the protank mini 2 for my isticks. Any one here have any pluses or minuses on them? I haven't gone to those threads yet, thought I'd ask here first. I'm going to start saving up for the holiday sales,( just lost my job) and hope for the best. Thanks, :)

I'm so sorry about your job. That just sucks. I hope you find something soon.

I started with carts (didn't work), went to to carto tanks (worked!, then didn't), and went to Davides after hearing about all the problems people were having with the PTs. I still use them without problem.

The cons. The last Davide mini I got was smaller than the rest. It sits flush with the egos and some appreciate that. I have a bunch of replacement glass--I've never broken any no mater how hard they hit the ground--that won't fit the skinnier version. The threads weren't up to par on it either. Bought another one and it was well made but still the slightly smaller version. Then I got a ProVari and bought a bunch of the regular Davides. I still use the minis and love them. It's why I've never progressed to a newer, "better" topper.

You also may find that the drip tip that comes with it doesn't fit very well in that it is very loose. I just use my own tips and have little to no problem. If you get a bum Davide, I'd be happy to send you a good one of mine. It's a terrific delivery device.

ETA I'm only talking about the original Davides and not the clones. I have no experience with clones. Didn't even know Davides had them.

Sigh probably the most noob of questions but Which wicking material do people use ? Say from cotton , organic cotton , japans cotton pads , cotton balls , rayon .
Also so I do a build then put some juice on the wick , now once the juice is gone do you put more juice on the wick or throw it away and put in a new wick ?
Im going to guess if search this on the internet then like usual I'm going to get 10 different answers from ten different people.
Here i shall cherry pick from the fountain of knowledge :p

I have had no failures using it. Some leaking originally before I learned how to put it back together. Now when i get some gurgling usually when the tank get low I put it on larger air hole and fire it or turn upside down and fire - it seems to work then its good again. Well most the time i put more liquid in it and then its good.
First couple of times when i unscrewed the atomiser the coil would come with it but now the coil stays in the chimney and i unscrew the coil from the chimney. Hasn't seem to have caused any problems but don't know why it changed. Not over tightening , screw the coil into the atomiser then just gently into the chimney until the tank just meets the top of the atomiser.

Ouch! Sorry to hear you lost you job. If things get tight and you starting running low on vape stuff, let us know. I'm sure 'the porch" would help you out.

Right now my "goto" wicking material is Japanese organic cotton. Wicks well, no off-taste, and easy to work with. I'm going to give rayon a 2nd try though. When I first tried it out - I just couldn't get the proper density right and got tired of futzing with it. I found cotton to be more forgiving w/ respect to using too much / too little.

As to when to change it. Depending on your build and you juice it can vary from 10 ml to 60 ml of juice before you have to change out the wick and dry burn the coil.

I'm a rayon fan, after an initial gifting from another member. And then had to run out and get my own multi-lifetime supply :) Used sterile cotton before that, but I find the rayon wicks a bit better. Although when I rebuild for kanger style single bottom coils, I do use silica for the main wick with a cotton yarn flavor wick, so I can dry burn a few times, just tossing the flavor wick.

Mike's spot on about the quantity, which depends a lot on the flavor. Darker and sweeter flavors seem to crud things up quicker. Or if you're changing flavors, a wick change may be in order. Of course, if you vape it dry and burn the wick, it's time to change

I've tried all the various wicking materials Mike has used in his rebuilding and my favorite is the KGD. Everything else seems to have some kind of taste in the beginning that you have to vape through except for the KGD. At least I don't taste anything but the juice, others may think differently. And it seems to suck up the juice quickly - never had a dry hit from it.

I have been using the cotton bacon for a couple months now, seems to be doing just fine for me. I think the biggest learning curve to many of these wicking materials is finding the sweet spot between too little and too much material in the coil to keep the juice wicking well. Just a matter of feel depending on the diameter of your coil.

I'm using Rayon and like it quite a bit. One thing I really like is the way I can stuff the coil fairly tightly and the rayon will contract a bit and I then get great juice flow. Also it doesn't seem to have any taste itself or if it does it goes away very quicky. I have also used cotton. Just plain old rolled, sterile cotton. Has a taste to it the first few vapes that fades over time. That was what I was using before I tried rayon. I have a boxnof rolled, sterile cotton that will last me the rest of my days. Nothing comes in small boxes. Luckily most wicking materials are fairly cheap. :)
