I gotta agree with you Bigbells. But for the sake of the question, I gave the "layman's answer".
There are a lot of newcomers to the tool base with the innovation of rapid prototyping and "maker spaces".

Didja notice I avoided saying "key" or "wrench"? ;)

For more tech... any tool called a "key" fits inside. Any tool called a "wrench" fits outside.

Well Boys and Girls, I got me a healthy dose of Disdain yesterday.

Went to a B&M I'd never been to before, and lemme tell ya -- Given what I saw there, I can ~almost~ see the case for some kind of regulation... and believe me I am anti-big government to the CORE! I tell ya!

Clerks giving bad and dangerous advice to noobs. A back room -cum- eliquid mixing room, complete with raw plywood countertops and equipment laying haphazardly everywhere. And a sales floor with no exhaust ventilation whatsoever, so the place was a dense fog the whole time I was there. They had two types of eliquid, and the only difference between their 'house" brand and the 'dripper' line was the dripper line had 10% higher VG and 20% higher prices.

And don't even get me started on their prices for hardware.

The clerk that mostly stayed behind the counter was more interested in showing off and bragging on his 0.3Ω, dual coil, dual 18650, homemade mech box Fog Machine than he was in waiting on me (or anyone else for that matter)... and telling me he couldn't vape in his truck anymore 'cause -- one hit would fog the interior so bad he couldn't see. Hasn't this guy ever heard of "cracking the window" a little?

The juice testing attys were unorganized and scattered all over the main countertop... and they were all either Evods or Protank Minis, all flooded, with little vapor and very little if any taste -- and they gave me a drip tip condom and an almost dead eGo 650 for testing. At least half of the attys didn't make contact, so wouldn't even fire! And of the ones that did fire, at least half of them tasted just alike.... yucky. And no one that worked there even seemed to care!

One customer, a young "dude" with a pregnant wife in tow, kept talking up his 0.095Ω build (yes, the decimal is in the right place), and was driving it with yet another ratty looking homemade dual batt. box mod -- my teenage son could have made better solder joints!

I ~could~ go on.... but I won't....

Geez Louise...

That's not a vaping store, it's a hang out. Good luck staying in business with that kind of attitude. What a way to turn off a new person to vaping. Well, they might get some young ones in there only interested in creating clouds big enough to obliterate the sun on the east coast. They're not mailing out their juice are they?

Hi all, thanks for all of the warm welcomes. I was a duel vapor for about 2 years and on my 61st birthday I had my last analog. I had talked to a wonderfully helpful sales person at The Vapor Hut and upped the amount of nic in my juice and that has helped to get me off the analogs. I use their, The Vapor Hut's American Tobacco with 18mg of nic. I have also found a great tasting juice at Thunder Vapor called Cowboy Blend. Yes, I am sticking with tobacco flavors vice the sweet candy type juices. Just my personal preference. Thanks to the wonderful folks on here I have been analog free for over 3 weeks and no cravings for the nasties. Smell is coming back along with taste. It was all nice until the other day. I had to drive to El Reno and drove by a feed lot. Oh Man, I really wished the smell hadn't returned. lol I have found the back porch so I will see ya'll over there.:vapor:

Welcome Diver! So glad you were able to make the switch away from cigarettes. A lot of people smoke while they vape and if that gets them away from at least some of their cigarettes it's a good thing. I was lucky to be able to accidently quit smoking, but a lot of people come to realize that they like vaping better, whether it's the flavor or the fun of it as a hobby or health benefits. Whatever gets you there. Finding a good vape store where they're truly interested in vaping is great. It's so much easier if you can ask questions and see devices and test juices in person. And yes, sometimes being able to smell again is not always a good thing!!

bells and Ken are both technically right about the "key" going inside of course...

But I've always called a 6-sided tool that goes on the outside of a bolt head or nut a "nut driver" if it's attached to a screwdriver-type handle, or a "socket" if it attaches to a ratchet or other handle.

This Sub Tank Mini just keeps on impressing me. Yesterday while trying jooses at the B&M, I got tired of trying to get anything out of those clogged clearos they had, so went to the "dripper table" to use those juices in bottles. There they had two Igo-L's with some sorry looking coils, and some cotton just sitting directly on the not-too-clean-looking table, so I didn't really want to use those.

So I just took the base off my Mini and dripped 5 drops directly into the hole in the top of the RBA head. After trying 3-4 fruit flavors, some fella told me I should try a flavor he liked called Leather, so I did... without smelling of it first. Big mistake. Now, I love the smell of fresh, quality leather... but this stuff tasted like old, wet leather... yuck. Ruined the taste of my RBA build.

This morning I washed the tank, rinsed the RBA base with the wick still in it, blew the whole thing out with compressed air, put the chamber sleeve back on, massaged the wick into place, wet it with some fruit joose, filled and reassembled and... It's working like a champ! And the Blackberry Brandy I bought actually tastes pretty good! oooraaahh...

Unless it's an Allen wrench, in which case it fits inside.

Well a six sided tool that goes on a bolt would be called a socket in my world. And it isn't necessarily 6 sided either. :)

So Gary; you're gonna call a hexagonal box wrench, a 12-point box wrench and an adjustable end wrench "sockets"? To me, a socket has to be able to used with a detachable handle of some sort. Socket WRENCH, maybe, but so is an Allen key, since it fits inside a socket.

I'd say this was all a silly argument, except that someone who was buying something by nomenclature alone could accidentally purchase hexagonal box wrenches when what they really wanted was Allen keys.

Welcome, Diver. Yeah, there has to be a down side somewhere...

Letz not forget socket allen wrenches. ;)

All Allen wrenches are socket wrenches. Socket Allen wrench is a redundant phrase.

Yer reeelly tuff to work with! LOL

I'm talkin about sockets that have an allen wrench in them with a set screw. :) I have a set of 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2".

I swear I'm not being deliberately obtuse. Sockets with set screws? Some of my ratchets and nut-driver handles have spring-loaded ball-bearings to hold the sockets in place but I've never seen any sockets that have set screws.

I think he meant a 6-sided Allen key that's fitted into a base which fits on a ratchet handle. I have a set.

DOH! 1 minute too late...
6-sided Allen key? Are there Allen keys with a different number of sides?

Yes, again (you're batting 1000 girl!) on the swivel head part.. the body turns, while you can put pressure on the head, which turns independently of the body. That little device is mostly used to hold drill bits, so it wouldn't really take the place of a swivel head driver though... unless you could find a driver set that is only a straight shaft with different driver ends on it.

I do already have a swively screwdriver that works, but just wanted to show you a pic to show what I was talkin about. Now as to the pin vise thingy......for using it with a allen key, couldn't I just cut off the hangy down part and make it straight to go in the pin vise?? I just wanted to make sure the pin vise was swively in the middle. So much easier on the wrists. Oh and yes, I meant no. (top that is)

Swivel head screwdrivers allow for more precision because you don't have to change the "grip" for every turn.

a Pin vice looks like it works the same way, but it does not. the pin vice is for griping the OUTSIDE of something... like a precision drill, or pin.
here is a youtube for using it to twist beading wire:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vs0W6PiOIOM

yeah that grip changing part is what I don't like. Ok....now......I know the pin vise grabs the outside of something.....like a drill. Just wanted to make sure that it was twisty in the middle.

OK, I'm going to disagree.

I can see what yur saying I think, you mean the closed up end of these things........ Craftsman 12 pc. Standard 6 pt. Combination Wrench Set, # 47236 - - Amazon.com

Wow.......jup that kinda describes my experience of a couple places I went to last week. First two vape stores I'd ever been in. all the juice tasted the same, so hazy ya could barely see in one of em, weak non poopy batts. The cleaner place did say she let me drip the juices, but since I had the Reo, I didn't want excess of their juice mixing into my bottle. Glad you were able to get that leather out of your tank!

This is what you get when you ask a combination of gear-heads, engineers, and techies a simple tool question.

All in good fun too.

lol well stop it fer a minute, and tell me please..... can I cut off the hangy down part on a allen key and stick it in the pin vise?

I used all my new terms on a nudder thread a bit ago and was so proud of me! lol

hangy down part... hehehe... weminz... hehe

I don't see why you couldn't cut off the hangy down part and use it that way, if the Allen key is small enough to fit into one of the 4 chucks on the "swively handle" thingy you linked.

hehehe

p.s. I cut off the hangy down part of an Allen key once, and made an egg-shaped "bulb" on one end with JB Weld... makes it a lot easier to take off the barrel of a 10/22.

I reckon that MIGHT work. I say might, rather than will, because it's going to be pretty durn difficult to saw off the Allen key above the elbow without boogering that end of the now straight hexagonal shaft. Regardless of whether you stick that end in the pin vise, or use that end as the working end, the boogering might cause problems.

Boogering is of course a HIGHLY technical term, but I'm agonna assume you catch the drift.
