Well guys life has been crazy. Lots of driving and little sleep. I see they have totally changed the forums while I was gone. This is going to take some getting used to.

Tonight my father in laws struggle with the cancer came to a sad end. I am in that numb state when things go horribly wrong so quickly there is no time to think or react. I am sure that will change in time. So far I am managing. Back on the high nic stuff but no real desire to smoke.

I did want to thank all of you for your support during this nightmare for me and my family. I think I would have lost my mind in the early days without you guys.

I think a box type mod may be a little clunky for him but he said he would give it a shot, I just wanted to hear from you all's experience.
What a sweet story, and wonderful concern and love you for him. Since you are there with him, I'd definitely say let him try your set up, coach him on proper inhalation technique, you don't want to hit it like a cig. A bit longer slower inhale, so you give the juice time to vaporize. See how he likes what you have. Many folks like the eleaf Istick 30 watt, it's small, so wouldn't be too bulky for him. I don't think the technology would be too much for him since you can help him set it at a wattage that he likes and is good for him. I would suggest these tanks, they're very simple to use. Fill, and vape. Nothing to deal with like air flow control and they have a good flavor. Doesn't hurt that they are super cheap here right now Aspire Vivi Nova BDC - Bottom Coil Tank get a few while they have em. When a coil gets old, take it out, screw another one in. Coils are also on sale now at my freedom smokes for 40% off, they do this from time to time. Aspire BVC Replacement Coil Heads 5pk | Aspire | Ecig - MyFreedomSmokes I"ll have to look up the code for sure for the 40% off, but I think it's Junecoil40 or something like that. The biggest thing will be finding juice he likes. But before you get anything, try him on your set up. If he likes that, it might be a good set up for him. So happy for your success so far........and..........we have no real age limit on the porch, so you're more than welcome here for help for yourself, or for your dad!

Tonight my father in laws struggle with the cancer came to a sad end.
I'm so sorry sweetie, but glad he's no longer ill and in pain. ((((((Myrany)))))))) Glad to have you back hun

Greetings everyone in the thread, I need your help and I think this might be the best place to post, so here goes. I will try to keep this as short as possible. :)

My dad, Al, has smoked since he was a teenager, I'm guessing around the same time I started, 16 or so. He's a Vietnam veteran in his mid 60's now and smokes around two packs a day.

So now that I've set all that up and you know what's up, what is a reasonably priced battery and tank that is incredibly easy to use, very durable, and most importantly, satisfying. He smokes menthol camel lights by the way.

:)

Welcome Utsuru, so wonderful that you are looking to help you dad. I wish him and you all the best.

I agree with Debadoo - if you can get him to try your MVP and help him thru the initial coughing I think that something like the iStick 30 might be a great option. I just recently got an MVP 3.0 as well as the iStick 30 and I personally find the MVP to be heavier, bulkier and less hand friendly. Not sure about the MVP20 since I have never had one.

I have been the opposite - trying to get my sons to try vaping and quit smoking. My middle son started with the cigarette like eRoll - but found that he just got frustrated with having to charge and fill it all the time. He just got an iStick 30 a few weeks ago and is now down to 3/4 cigarettes a day - so some progress.

My other son also has an eRoll (but is not using it at all). I just PIFed my 650mah Twists to him and he is trying - but was asking about the iStick so I think one of those is in his future as well.

As for the topper and juice - these are much harder to make recommendations. I am currently still using my Protank (the original single coil version) and I really like them. Since they are glass - I don't have to worry about tank cracking juice - the coils are pretty cheap to buy and replace. But these are getting to be "older technology" - kind of like me  If you were going this route I would suggest probably going with the Protank II since with those you can change the drip tips.

In the case of both of my sons - they started with (just like me ) trying tobacco type juice. The youngest - never like any tobaccos - and prefers mostly fruit mixes. The other seems more willing to try just about anything - but so far I think what has kept them from making the complete switch is not find a juice they prefer more than a cigarette.

My son's girlfriend is now 3 weeks quit - using my old Vision Spinner - but she found several flavors (Strawberry banana and a melon mix) that she really loves.

Since your dad smokes menthol - he just might have an easier time finding a menthol he likes - I have heard that a lot of menthol smokers seem to have an easier time finding a juice that will work for them.

Anyway - keep asking any questions and I am sure you will get lots of help here :)

Myrany, was thinking about you last night. Did not think long enough to remember the reason for your absence-- really did not want to. :(

It's friggin killing him right before my eyes and I can't stand it. There were a lot of motivating factors that pushed me to quit and he is one of them. Since I've moved back home I realize just how deep the evil clutches of cigarettes goes and it's, well, a huge bummer.

I recently quit smoking after getting a little MVP 2 starter kit and some juice from online and the past 8 days have been a huge success, for me at least.

My pops wants to try it but he's intimidated, both by the technology and having to learn something new as well as the fear of giving up cigarettes.

Compared to a lot of trying times in my life, this past week was a breeze. Sure, the first three days were uncomfortable but I can think of much worse.

So now that I've set all that up and you know what's up, what is a reasonably priced battery and tank that is incredibly easy to use, very durable, and most importantly, satisfying. He smokes menthol camel lights by the way.

I think a box type mod may be a little clunky for him but he said he would give it a shot, I just wanted to hear from you all's experience.

Thank you for any replies, I just want my dad to have some extra time on this glorious massive blue sphere hurtling through space that we call home.

May the stars bless all you beautiful people. :)

I commend you for your dedication and love for your father. You came to the right place! You are already getting good advice. I agree the topper (juice delivery device) and the juice are the hardest part.

We are all here to help!

C'mon guys. Someone not even slightly into technology wants to quit. IMHO we don't hand them a provari or mvp or anything they have to do anything to. (and NO! Not a #$@*% cigalike either!) A simple EGO is where it's at I'm thinking. Fill it up and push the button. Not enough control? Of course not. But they're learning to vape. I don't think they're interested in learning ohm's law. Biggest problem... finding that killer juice that just blows away any thot of a cig! That's the real key. Being able to adjust the mod comes later. Much later.

Thatz my opinion, n' I"m stuck wid it!!!!

I sort of agree, Gary. Although I'd suggest a VV, Spinner or Twist type. The ability to adjust for the flavor and for the normal variances in factory coils can make a big difference.

And if going for that form factor, perhaps a venerable T3S on top?

We agree to disagree. :) My point is not being able to adjust. Just vape. For the newbie... chop up the learning curve to something manageable. Ego did it for me. It was the flavor that got me.

Well, if THAT'S how you're going to be :w00t:

I feel that at least VV is important to the experience. Being able to turn it up - or down! - can make a huge difference in the vape, and a big difference in success. Sure, I, too, started with fixed voltage, and was sometimes happy, sometimes not. (Although I was one of the lucky ones who made the switch pretty fast, in spite of that.)

And one doesn't need any math or knowledge of Ohm's law if using factory coils in clearos, just adjust to taste...

Flavors, and nic level are critical. Since he's a menthol smoker, perhaps minty flavors? The earlier suggestion about taking him to a vape bar is the best way to find something that he finds tasty. Unless, Utsuru, you, like me, you have a lot of flavors on hand!

LOL I hear ya, Dave. :) And yeah, flavor and... probably nic level are critical. But I keep thinking I NEVER WANTED to quit. Got lucky and hit the right flavor right off the bat (using an ego I got stuck with) and I was hooked.

Heading to a vape shop and tasting flavors is good but since they're zero nic... not exactly the same.

Utsuru,

My .02FRN:

Start with a VV/VW, eGo (Twists or Spinners) or a 30W iStick. If you get eGos, get at least two, one to use while the other is charging.

I like Deba's suggestion for toppers to start with. Get several so that he can sample flavs and replace the heads when needed.

Your Dad's biggest battle will be finding a satisfactory flavored joose at the proper nig level/ratio. He needs to find at least two flavs (to prevent t-bud boredom) that tastes better, in his mind, than a cig. Since he's smoking two packs a day, I would start him out at 24ml; 18ml would be minimal (IMHO).

Good luck and, please, keep us posted!

I use both T3s and Evods and the Evods work better. Virtually no gurgling problems or leakage with the Evods, even the $1.99 Evod clones. However the genuine kanger T3's are sometimes gurgly and leaky. I use the T3's at home and the Evods are my go with tanks.
I do like the 3ml capacity of the T3's though and they vape nice when you drill out a couple of the air holes.
