Well I think of Alaska as my home. I lived there for 30 years. Moved to a little rural town that no one would know the name of anyway in Louisiana abou 4 years ago. We moved here because I had some family here. Now I don't. My mother passed away. Hubby got laid off in March of this year after 19 years working in the oil industry so we can't go back, at least not yet. :)

I'd probably know where you're talking about. I'm a native Louisianaian. (Is there such a word?) Anyway, WELCOME to the porch!!

I am sure that my threat of pieces of kanthal stopped his games with whoopie cushions.

Pftttt... I just camouflaged 'em to look like cacti... oh, wait...

OOPS! Sorry about the cactus in the flowerbed. ouch and no Iffy did not fix it. Need some tweezers here.

I just 'fix' cushions, not railings!

BTW RC, ya failed da sobriety test. Oh, and here, we don't carry tweezers, just geezers!

Myrany is in Louisiana too. But, she's a little busy with RL right now.

I got fed up with my Taifun and built a coil for my kayfun again instead. Much easier.

The Taifun screw heads are apparently not flat on the bottom. The wire kept getting forced out from under as I tightened it. Need to find some better screws.

@MikeE3: A+ on your diagnostics!
Drilling holes in my original version (no holes) Kanger Subtank rba deck has made all the difference in the world when using a titanium coil.

16 hours of use and still performing like a champ. The coil measured 0.22 ohms for the first half hour but it's been constant at 0.26 ohms ever since. I'm using a setting of only 220 degrees F, but that's in Nickel 200 mode so the actual temperature is higher but I don't know how much higher. All I know is that the vapor volume and taste are excellent on every draw. Battery use is on the high side but not too bad.

Thanks!

Nice you got it working good. I'm still fuzzy where you drilled the holes. Or did you just make the original juice channels bigger?

Check out the forum at "truckers report.com" A guy by the nick "Chinatown" is very knowledgeable about Local and OTR companies all over the USA and can likely help your hubby find a decent regional/local job. Just start a thread in the new drivers forum. A lot of helpful people there!
Best to you...

Welcome to the porch GlacierBabe and disallwedword - always nice to have more folks join the porch group.

I'm thinking the sides of the vapor chamber, to make them more like the V2 :

V2 on the left, original on the right.

You may regret that when we start spending your money for you :)

Welcome to all the new old friends!

I left the original juice channels as they were. The two holes I drilled are in the sleeve, 1/4" above the bottom of the sleeve, and they are directly above the juice channels when the sleeve is screwed on to the base.

Still going great another 24 hours after my last report.

Edit: yes, just like the picture that David O posted.

I have several Taifuns DH. When you find new screws (for the coil assembly you silly people - that I love!) please let me know where to get them. I am OK, but know what you mean.
I asked in the Taifun thread. So far, all I got was a link to a place in Europe with high shipping: Taifun GT/GS - Service Set - SmokerStore GmbH

I guess you could take that info to a hardware store and see what you could find. I guess.

It's going to cost $5.95 for shipping regardless of whether you buy 1 screw or 2 boxes of 100 screws each, but the screws themselves are dirt cheap here:
Metric machine screws, Phillips pan head, Stainless steel 18-8, 2mm x 0.4mm - Bolt Depot

The Taifun uses one of those screws in 20 mm length for the positive post and one that's 14 mm in length for the negative post, assuming that the SmokerStore link shows the correct sizes. The 20 mm screws are $0.08 each or $5.18 for 100, and the 14 mm screws are $0.06 each or $3.72 for 100.

disallowedword, I thought you'd been on this thread before, but maybe I've just seen you post elsewhere. Either way, welcome to the Porch! :)
I was looking around some more and this site offered a 10% off code in a pop-up window, in return for me supplying my email address. I don't know what they charge for shipping but they're located in California. Same $40 pre-discount price as everybody else. The code, I think, was Sept10 but I forgot to make an indelible mental note of it so not positive.
XTAR Direct
That may be where I got my last charger. Sounds very familiar. CA charges us twice for fire protection, is trying to ream a 90%+ tax down our throats for all things vaping, and that's just for starters. I don't mind paying reasonable taxes, but CA has pushed me over the edge. I never thought I'd see that day when I was one of "them," but things have gone too far. Not buying it from within state.

I didn't mean to make someone else do my legwork, thought someone would know offhand. I really, really appreciate your looking into it. Humbled by your generosity, kind sir. Now please, tell me it's time to dump my old battered batteries. :(

Tear down and inspect for Stupid.
have had to do that many times! Glad you got it going to your satisfaction!

Not sure I will ever want to build my own equipment but I would like to try a squonker. Doing some research.
ahhhhhhh step into my parlor dahling!!!
I've have somewhat of a reputation for converting porchers to being reonauts. Not sure how that happened.....

Can someone please remind me of the best/reputable places to buy a charger? Xtar VP4 if it matters. Name is on the tip of my brain and it's kinda stuck there. o_O
jup was gonna say RTD. I trust them more than anyone else for all things battery related. I want the VP4. I have an xtar wp2, but I don't have a back up charger, so I really need a new charger so I can use my wp2 as a back up......right?? right?? Thought so!

awwwwww sorry you're not where you want to be, but glad your hubby was able to find something else. Jup definitely come into the hangout and check it out, we'd love to "meet" you in there, and we have tons of fun. If there isn't anyone in there when you check, it most likely won't be long til someone does come in.

Welcome to ya!!!
