Regarding rayon wicks: I had given up on them after one try, months ago. But in the past 2 days I've made 3 of them and I'm quite pleased with the current one and the one before that. Some part of my brain decided to remember the importance of making the wick as snug as possible in the coil, and this has made a huge difference in vape quality and flavor. Me likey.View attachment 498294

Rayon is great stuff. I make it just tight enough to slide back and forth bout 3/8 inch each side with tension but not enough to move the coil back and forth. Rayon doesn't expand like cotton but sure does wick well
I get around 200mls (@ 3 weeks) of my Hangsen desert ship/tobacco absolute blend I make vaped through a twisted 30 gauge spaced rayon coil in a kayfun. I pull the rayon out of the coil after all that juice and the coil is hardly gunked along with the rayon being surprisingly clean.
I now find out after all this time that there is different numbers on the rayon boxes from sallys. I can't remember where I read that or the proper box number but my box number didn't match what they said is the rayon to use. If anyone knows what box number that your suppose to use it would be appreciated. I have box [HASHTAG]#44060[/HASHTAG] and its been doing me just fine for all these months.
I also read that rayon sticks to itself like glue so I'm going to on my next rebuild, make a flavor wick for chits and giggles out of the rayon and see how that goes... always looking to improve my vape quality and yet might be epic fail. :)

Yep, that's the right version. They also market a similar box, don't know the number, that's either cotton or rayon/cotton blend.

Uh, flavor wick on what? I did try it once on a Kanger type single coil, and instantly lost all suction. As in drawing on a blocked straw loss. Went back to cotton yarn for those, and didn't try varying amounts of rayon...

https://www.myfreedomsmokes.com/ has a 30% off code for most batteries. Since I'm using just about nothing except TC these days (low ohm, high amps) I stocked up on some Samsung 25A 18650 batteries. Personally, I won't touch the Efest batteries because they are well-known for overstating their capacity and amperage, according to quite a few people who have tested them.

The code is BATT30%

Well I've paid the ransom and Trip (the hostage) has been freed! Thinner and still very uncoordinated but circulating the back yard refreshing his markings through out. All this in spite of being launched against my PU's dash, due to a sudden stop (miserable flashing left turn arrow!!!).
His head is still on a ~60deg tilt, and the vet still has no idea what brought all this on or what to expect going forward. Even consulting with multiple neuro-vets his symptoms are leaving all of them baffled.
So, 2 bags of pills, a clumsy twisted hound, a $600 bill, and a confused look is what I left with.
But, through it all, he's home so the house is on 'Spoil Trip Alert' for a while.
Again Thanks to all you fine folks for your good wishes and support. Greatly Appreciated!!!

Happy Day ... Trip is home.

My stainless steel 304 wire arrived today from FastTech. Took just short of 4 weeks to get here. I'll report on my first stainless steel coil shortly.

I had similar introduction to rayon. Re-wicked and re-wicked for about a week when I 1st tried it. Wasn't satisfied at all compared to KGD, so I gave up. Then about a month later I tried again, and like you, stuff as much as I could through the coil. I started to get the hang of it and began liking it more than KGD. I know use enough to be pretty snug when pulling through the coil, just shy of not being able to get it through at all. Then I trim 1/2 of the material from the tails sticking out the ends of the coil.

Here's the method I use for making both cotton and rayon wicks. Works really well for me:

I try to cut the piece I'm going to use to be the same diameter as what I'm going to need going through the coil, and about an inch longer than I'll need. With practice I've gotten pretty good at nailing the diameter I want.

Then I cut one end to a point, wet it and twist it (just at that end, which is going to end up being cut off anyway). This makes it relatively easy for me to stick the pointed end through the coil and pull the wick through from the far side. Occasionally I'll have made it a little too thick, so I just peel some more off.

Then I put the ends through the RTA deck housing and cut them off together about a quarter inch to half an inch above the top of the housing. I push the ends down into the well and make sure the wick is fully engaging the joose feed holes in the housing. Then I drench the hole thing with juice, which avoids having to wait for the wick to pull joose from the tank. Put the cap on the RTA deck, screw it into my Kanger Subtank base, screw the base to the tank and I'm ready to vape away.

A trick I learned working w/ rayon ... if when threading it through the coil, you realize you've got too much and it just won't fit ... hold the tip/piece coming through the coil ... then pull on the opposite end of the wick ... give little but firm tugs ... and most times it stretches the rayon and allows me to get it through the coil w/o deforming the coil.

So those that are using TC, what Juice Delivery Devices are you using? I can wrap a decent coil, just can use suggestions for TC toppers. No nickel for me, but Titanium sounds interesting. Head spinning again... ;)
All I use is the Kanger STM with the RBA. It has near 0 static resistance and easy to attach the coil. I use a 26awg Ti01 5 wraps 3mm spaced. Comes out at .26 for Unkamen and .28 using Crazy Wire. With this new upgrade for the SXM you can use almost all grades of SS for TC also.

If you twist the following end slightly while stretching it, you get even more in there. If I misjudged and don't have quite enough, I pull it back out, add a bit more, and retwist the leading end. You have to have plenty of wick laying at the top of the juice channels. On mine, I also make sure that the coil is far enough above the airhole.

hmmm? I'm not with you on needing plenty of wick on the juice channels. I cut at least 1/2 of the protruding wick ends off, then tuck and cut the remaining so it just touches the deck. Rayon wicks pretty dang good.

Remember that I single-coil Orchids. I cut the wickends off at a sharp angle, and lead the long ends onto the other side. I have four channels to cover with one wick.

With my kayfun I make kinda a fan with the wick then cut the corners off and remove some of the bulk off the top of the tails if necessary. Make a waterfall looking by pressing the juiced wick against the bottom edge of the deck, put the chimney sleeve on. Separate the wick and make a V with a pair of tweezers then fluff a bit. This method seems to work for me and I have no flooding or leaking as of yet.

Got it! Cutting the wick ends at a sharp angle is akin to what I'm doing.

I think somebody else recently mentioned that same strategy. Anyway, I'm gonna try that, if it sticks in the old memory bank. Thanks!

I probably posted these pic's before. But this is what my finished wicks look like.

After cutting 1/2 the thickness of extending tails off, wet the wick & press tails into deck with a pin & cut where the pin leaves an indentation.

IMG_3268_zpsazirhysx.jpg

Then tuck the cut tails into the corner of the deck.

If I tried that with the Kanger Subtank, the juice inlet holes would have no wick pushed up against them and it would flood. On the Kanger Subtank, the two holes are located in line with the coil. The joose feeds in from the sides rather than through the bottom.

Was tempted on those Samsung batteries, but have no need for them at this time.

I just got my 4 18500 1100 mah Efest batteries for a bit under $1 each. Brand new in box They make my Zmax fit in my hand better than with an 18650.
and in a Zmax they will be fine.
also got 5 genuine Kanger T3 bases for .95 each.
8 bottles of flavoring.
A spool of 30 and 28 ga Kanthal.

Vape mail day! Still waiting on 10 Kanger T3 coils for $5.02.

Anyway, Pat, thanks for the info. I am taking notes for Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales. Hopefully I will have my Clouper by then Lo

And Robert, I have 2 Zmax I love in 18500 mode!

Gotta get some sleep, this phone is driving me bonkers! Thanks everyone - some great wicking info too!
