Older Folks and Vaping

I did 35 years in the pack and a half range each day. I love being off the analogues. I never thought it would happen! Now after 2 and half years on vaping I think I am more addicted to nicotine. Maybe its just the convenience but I find myself vaping in the bathroom at work 2 or 3 times each shift whereas before I could wait (albeit a little uncomfortably) for lunch or to get to the car. Its hard to say, a cig last 6 minutes, vaping can be constant when at home.

Comfortably vaping in da boy's room <apologies to Brownsville Station>, lack of smoke stench on clothes, better health, etc. all contribute to our vaping enjoyment. Don't sweat it!

BTW, welcome to da ol' farts porch!

This year I am going to track what I spend on vaping vs. what I save not smoking and (try to, lol) actually put that money aside

You might want to get yourself one of these handy-dandy counter-banners. (I'm pretty sure you can just click on mine to go to the site.)

It's quite easy to set up. And I find it QUITE useful to keep things in perspective when I'm considering purchasing another vaping toy.

Toy?? Did you say toy?? These 12-15 APVs and 42-50 or so toppers and countless batteries and coils are serious medical appliances. I can't help it if my anxiety about getting caught without a working vaping device causes me to err on the cautious side. Better too many to..errr medical appliances than not enough :D

I heard 30 minutes of vaping equals one cigarette, think I read that in one of those studies. Of course, nicotine level, frequency of vaping, etc. needs to be considered (e.g. can't remember the numbers). Anyways, anytime the wife jokes about my pacifier, I have to remind her of that.

Happy new years to you too.

Is the 8W one of the ones with the side button? I think it was one or more of the 8s that did. If so how is it performing for you? I have been considering a side button for awhile as well as a magneto as a backup mech for me REOs.

My K100 the bottom button press is too much pressure for my hands with my early onset arthritis (thanks to broken bones in my past). It just hurts to use.

Yes, the 8W has the bottom side button. I got this one and a #20 at the same time, and the 20 in 18650 mode with a Protank 2 quickly became my favorite rig... it pushes all the right buttons for me (TH, flavor, vapor production, joose capacity, longevity, button placement, compact form, etc.) and (bonus!) fits perfectly in a flashlight holster I already had. The #20 and the #8W both perform well with kanger BCC clearos with rebuilt LR coils.

I also have a Magneto (FT clone)... to me, it's just "OK"... pretty, but nothing to write home about performance-wise... maybe it just needs a little judicious sanding/polishing on contact areas? This all-brass Sentinel (also from FT) is one hard hitter tho... I keep a gold-colored (brass?) Protank 1 clone (FT again) on it, loaded with some extra-nic joose and a 1.4 ohm coil, for those times when 14mg/ml. thru a 2 ohm coil just ain't enough to satisfy.

I got a side button mod yesterday that is working out great for me. I got the Poldiac clone from Vaperoyalty.com.
It really is a nice mod and about as close to the real thing as a clone can be. I got the stainless steel with brass. This clone is the one that has the shirt and pants like the real Poldiac. I think it is made by Asmart. There is another Poldiac clone being sold that just has the tubes with no shirt or pants.
It has the silver coated pins and from tests I have seen of it there is very little voltage drop.
I am using it with one of my Kayfun Lites and it really looks and works great.

I've lately been spending a lot of time at Vaperoyalty.com... but I can't decide between the Poldiac, King, or Nemesis clones. That Poldiac sure is pretty, but the other two have adjustable air control.

One thing I've found out about the Protanks, Dbox Puritank, and even the Aspire 510 models is that on most mech mods I have the female-threaded well is too deep, and covers up the little air holes in the 510 male-threaded connector because they screw in too far. This results in a hard draw and causes them to flood (and gurgle) quickly.

You know what is GREAT about this forum??? >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
It keeps us off the supplier websites while reading to catch up!!! Keeps us making lists instead of spending from them! For awhile!

HAPPY NEW YEAR everybody before I forget to say it.

I spent my sleepless hours (the 3am can't sleep time) on New Year's eve and the day before that hitting some e-juice websites that I had been keeping wishlists for. ooooh, I was pretty bad. I ordered from The Vapor Chef on the 30th, and it SHIPPED on the 31st, WOOHOO!
Then on the 31st I ordered from Highbrow, Nicoticket, and Mom and Pop's. Reading that thread "Top 5 E-Liquid companies" (not the correct title) is killing me, and keeping me making long long lists.

I'm only a 2-month full-time vaper, so I'm definitely in the early stages of everything. Referring back to something several earlier posts have alluded to, I DO think that the fascination with equipment and juices, and the absorbing addiction thereto, is part of what is keeping me off of cigarettes. It takes a powerful transference to get me off of what was a 40+-yr heavy habit, and vaping is giving me that. YAY!

I too am probably vaping more than even I was smoking, and dang I smoked almost constantly, when activity allowed anyway. But I think that this will probably relax a little once I find my "zone" and faves and gear settles down. I'm not really worried if it doesn't, but I think it will. These early days are rough on the budgeting, because there are so many lessons to learn about liquids AND gear. Experimentation costs, for right now.

I love fact that now, when I really get antsy and that brings the urge to "smoke," I can just vape my head off, using whatever flavor is giving me the strongest hit, and maybe even going with the 18mg nic, to get that "ok, enough for now" sensation. The fact that vaping can DO that is so important. I think that otherwise, I would be at the smoke shop buying cigs for sure.

Well I had the new years from H E double toothpick. Thank God for vaping or I would for sure have been chain smoking.

It started when the WoW server crashed and took too long to come back up. So sis and I have a standard policy when that happens to meet up in Second Life (which we have had our accounts in for 10 years). AND I tried to log in and got a message that my account had been suspended. 10 year old account with all my created content from 10 years there as well as the account that holds the land for the family there.

Called them. SO sorry we can't help you until Thursday at the earliest put in a ticket and if you are luck someone MIGHT get to you by end of next week. Full boat panick.

SO I thought to myself ok take a vape and think this through. AND my REO picked that moment to leak all over me. It took me nearly 3 hours to figure out it had blown out the oring in the bottle cap and to figure out how to replace it.

Got it all fixed and vaped like a fiend. BUT I never smoked. Never really even thought about smoking.

Bit of background: Sis Lives in Alberta these days. Gaming is how we stay connected.

Hi mdw ... you may have already thought of this, but ....

It would be a good idea to pick up a juice with more nic than 18mg to have laying around for those "antsy" times.
Most "heavy" smokers start with 24mg when they switch to vaping.
Using a little higher nic, you won't have to vape your head off trying to get the amount your needing.
It can even leave your hand for a while ..

I have friends that both vape, and there's a "common use" spinner with a protank filled with 24mg juice that sits on a table where they can both grab it when their nic levels drop. (They stay busy on a farm, and forget to vape !!)

You also can just put some in a tank and set it aside (in a cool dark place).
Then when the ants start crawling, grab it, screw it on, and puff away until all is good again.
If you have extra batteries, just leave it attached.
It will keep in the tank as well as in the bottle, and it's much faster to change tanks, if you have one handy, than to
empty, rinse and refill a tank just for a few puffs, or drag out a dripper
Works for a lot of vapers ... kind of a "security blanket".

PS, I don't think I welcomed you to the "porch", ...so howdy, have a seat.

Myranny, sorry you had such a day today! Hope you get your "stuff" back soon.

Meantime, here's a picture for you of the 8W, 20, Sentinel, and a Vamo (in '350 mode) for comparison.

20140101_222556_zpsd01c10aa.jpg

I have a sentinel clone and the vamo :) I don't much like my sentinel. The brass smell gets on my hands and the button keeps unscrewing. Though it is a lighter press and i can manage it.

EDIT: BTW I use orings instead of rubber bands for grip ;)

On the Sentinel, I screwed the button completely apart and put a thin strip of teflon plumbers tape on the threads to stop it unscrewing. The brass smell turned me off at first too, but I made myself use/handle it, but haven't cleaned it. As the brass ages and with handling, the smell diminishes to practically unnoticeable.

Yeah, gotta get by the auto parts store and get me some o-rings. :)

Not real sure what the teflon tape is but the hubby says he knows and we will look for it. Here is to hoping the smell issue does pass :)

BTW let me explain one thing on stuff from Second life. For a period of about 2 years I actually made a living selling my digital creations in Second Life. SO yeah its stuff just kinda important stuff ;)

Actually, I regretted using quotes as soon as I posted and re-read it... but too late. Didn't mean to minimize your loss by calling it "stuff".

I do hope you get it all back. :D

No no sweetie no offense at all. It is an online game world. TO most its just fancy pixels and totally understandable that most think that way. I was a content creator in Second Life which puts things on a different level. It is not a game to me it is a business that I have made real life money at with my digital art skills. Most folks do not even know that was ever possible (and it is arguable that it might not be possible for those coming in now, I started when the game was new).

The panic was for a very real potential real life income loss if I do not get this sorted out. No a huge one like it would have been in the past but who wouldn't miss an extra bit of cash every month?

I probably will get it back it is just so frustrating to have this happen over a holiday when there literally IS NO ONE to call to get it worked out. So I sit stewing about it and chain vaping. hehehehehehehehe

Ahh, Myrany :) Nasty cluster of events pouring in -- and you made it through! Excellent job!

I am a WoW player also (formerly Everquest and Everquest II). Great fun, great escape too. I've been absent from it a lot since I started working more hours though, and I miss it. But -- RL comes first as we all know!

EDIT: and to be able to make RL income from Second Life -- congrats! And I really hope you get it all resolved asap.

Heya, Slots, thanks for the welcome, and thanks too for this great idea. I thought that maybe I had physically pretty much withdrawn from my former level of nicotine addiction, so I shouldn't "need" the heavier e-juice levels. So I've been buying 6 or 12mg bottles.

My previous cigarettes were ultra-lights, so even though I smoked in such high quantity, I thought I shouldn't "need" a heavy dose of nicotine in my e-juice. HOWEVER, I could smoke through an entire pack pretty darned fast and pretty darned constantly chain-smoking.

So I LOVE your idea, and I think I'll do it! Now, if I could just pick a flavor that I like enough to stash as my security blanket! I think I can do that, I'll figure it out :)

FOr me the harder thing to break was the habits that go with smoking. Like needing that jolt first thing in the morning. So I tend to keep my higher nic for use first thing in the morning (or in emergencies like last night hehehehehe). For that jolt I started with a pretty neutral flavor like a mint or a menthol. Strong enough flavor that even with vapors tongue I still get SOMETHING from it.

Leave the fancy stuff for the rest of the day. ;)

Just what works for me YMMV. :)
