Popped in to say Hello while I take a break. We're leaving on vacation in a few weeks so I decided it was a good day to get my DIY mixing done and get that off my list of things to do. :) Ten 30 ml bottles of juice should keep me supplied for a while :D Next I'll have to make a list of which vaping toys are going on vacation with me. We're driving to Florida this time so space isn't an issue as far as how much stuff I take with me. Not sure that's a good thing

Good Luck with your CE5's Omg :)

Ken_A- We consider 40 a heatwave around here in January :D Personally I prefer it MUCH warmer but as long as we're stuck here in January we'll gladly take anything we can get above 32 :)

Oh... welcome to Sunny So Fla!!!!

I wanted to thank you all for the welcomes. And I totally refuse to think that 44 above zero is cold. We had a heat wave yesterday and it got up to freezing.
Toasty warm here at 34 deg. I have my inside door open to get some more light and freshen the air.

I'm going to fiddle around a bit more with the CE5's, but looks like I am in for a replacement adapter and a few bases. They needed a good washing, anyway.

I'm only 55 so hope I can join this thread.

Smoked 2.5 to 3 packs a day. Started at 14.

A friend of mine ordered one of the cigalike kits and ended up receiving 2, he gave me the second one. Not hateful but not enough to get me off analogs. Wife then bought me a ego kit. The clearomizer was enough to make me leave the analogs behind. That lasted about 3 months. The ego battery broke ordered a couple replacements bats from a crappy online vendor. Nothing but frustration.

Decided to try ecigs again last year. Order better gear and found I love gaping.

Now I'm up to the eVic with few different tanks I love. Been mixing my own juice for a couple months. I'm confident it will work this time.

Hi and you're most welcome to join the thread. My gosh, is that your vehicle in you avi picture. Yikes! Nice to hear that you're doing so much better with your new gear. Getting something that works for you is the 1st big step toward success giving up the smokes. I started with 510 cig-a-likes and it was driving me nuts charging the darn things all day long. I spent more time charging and filling the carts then I did vaping. I was 2 1/2 PPD after 45 years of smoking. Now thanks to better equipment and the good folks here in the thread I've been smoke free for over 2 years.

Either the funny taste is going away or I'm getting used to it.... was I supposed to boil this stuff? I've never sterilized the inside of a tank, so why would I boil the wick?

White cotton balls are usually bleached to achieve the degree of whiteness they have. Boiling gets rid of that which is better for your health. I purchased a skein of pure cotton white crochet thread to use so I should be fixed for wicks for the rest of my life. I cut off a couple of 2 ft. lengths, boiled them, dried them and they give off some serious vapor in ProTanks. And you are right, it does taste funky before boiling.

welcome sdennislee! you are plenty old enough if you are older than someone and vape. :)

You are gonna get to HATE that silly auto-correct. It will change perfectly good vaping words into really funny things.

I noticed that, too. I have one in my sig on another board that I gut-laughed five minutes when I first saw it.

I have been told that the Vamo 5 is not expected to have thread failure issues to any significant degree. So therefore I don't need a thread protector.

It's a work vehicle. One of the benefits of working on the North Slope, cool vehicles.

You're gonna make me feel like a real softie - sitting here on the couch, enoying a fire in the fireplace after a hard day of shopping w/ my wife for a new kitchen set.

Alright the kitchen floor is done, I've got time to play w/ vaping toys. Iffy, thanks for introducing me to Nextel XC-116 or whatever it's called. I was liking the hemp in the Russian but I had to change it out every 3-4 days (OK, I'm a heavy vaper).

So tonight I went for a completely different build setup. Wrapped 5 loops of 28g Kanthal around a #36 machinist bit (.106 inches, the closest fraction drill bit would be 7/64, .109 inches). When I measured it w/ the DVM I got 1.7Ωs. But when I installed it and checked it on the Provari it was only 1.1Ωs. I didn't even know the Provari would work w/ it that low. But it's good up to 3.8-3.9volts. I'm using it at 3.4volts and getting plumes of vapor.

Didn't know how to thread the XC through, so I taped the end with electrician's tape and threaded it through.

PhotoJan1980132PM_zps3d015351.jpg

Cut it to about 1 1/2 inches, then installed it.

PhotoJan1980341PM_zps1d61586d.jpg

Soaked it w/ some juice and gave it a test fire. Impressed me.

This setup is now hands down out front of my Davide's for vapor production and flavor. I gave it to Janet and said taste this. She asked what's in it and I said try it and tell me. She said it tastes like very strong Iffy Juice (Janet's Heaven). Now there's a testimony to how well it works. The flavor is spot on with plumes of vapor at 3.4volts w/ 1.1Ω coil. Yikes I haven't vaped at 3.4 since I started 2 years ago on 510 cig-a-like sticks.

If there's a down side its, I can't chain vape it. Not that it won't keep up w/ chain vaping, but the nic deliver is kicking my ..... It may be time to consider dropping my nic level for this setup.

Did you give it enough time to soak up the juice before vaping? I usually let it sit for 10 minutes or so and then do some toots without firing it to make sure there's juice drawn onto the wick. And yes, boiling helps get rid of anything that might be on it. In fact, you could boil it a few minutes, change the water and boil again. Some people recommend distilled water so you don't have a bunch of minerals in the water.

Might consider teflon "plumber's" tape instead of electrical, Mike. Comes off easier.

That's a thought but would it 'stick'. I only wasted about 1/8" of the XC under the tape. And I just cut it off, didn't want to leave any goo residue behind on the end.

Welcome aboard! Glad you stopped by. Wow, congratulations to you for going back to try vaping again. Some people would have just figured it was awful and let it go. That's such a shame. I'm so glad hubby (MikeE3) got started together and he found ECF which was such a big help to us. Here it is over 2 years later and we're still smoke free and loving it! And you've found this thread which, IMO, is one of the nicest, most helpful groups of people you'll come across. We also have a chatty thread where we talk about vaping and whatever other topic that hits our fancy. Might want to drop in on our other porch http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/lounge/289745-older-people-55-up-941.html

Either the funny taste is going away or I'm getting used to it.... was I supposed to boil this stuff? I've never sterilized the inside of a tank, so why would I boil the wick?

I don't bother, but I do wash all my toppers before use. Some do, to get rid of any manufacturing stuff, bleach, sizing, or whatever. Pulling tufts off sterile cotton balls shouldn't need anything, but I use yarn. If I was 20, the traces in 1/4 inch might concern me, but at this end of the spectrum, after nearly 50 years inhaling burned paper, etc,... not sure it makes much difference.

But boil some up and see if you notice a beneficial change in the vape.

Oh gods- PLEASE don't make me give up my tutus... anything but that!!!! lol... My favourite vape is tasting weird and the tank is being funny, so I actually took it apart and dry burned the coil (in my pink tutu (yay me, lol)) and I happened to have a cheesecloth from before me and my oven split up, so I put in two wicks one of 3 strands and one of 4 strands. Now it just has no taste at all, and it gurgles. The other weird thing is it has become very hard to screw onto the battery... like if you're trying to screw a rusty nut onto a screw....

Ok, keep the tutu :)

The wick should almost fill the coil. Cotton will expand to fill it. If you put in too much you'll choke off the flow. Two little and it will likely leak and gurgle. 3 or 4 single strands from cheese cloth may be way too few.

Make sure you've trimmed them close. Sounds like you may have a bit of thread in the threads.

Seriously, glad you're vaping and enjoying it all. Welcome to da finest thread on da ECF; well, this one and our BACK PORCH where we swap lies and swat flies, aka open topics.

Awesome to hear, Mike! Nice lookin' coil. Ya just talked me into gettin' off my keel and redoing my KFL.

How did ya place da XC on da upper deck? Any special technique? Have a pic?

BTW, did ya try moistening da XC, then pull and roll/twist da tip into a 'spear' point for threading?

Chances are I'll probably be gettin' back in touch wid ya with more questions as my near misses pile up.

Thanx fer day followup!
