I am 67, my husband 66. We have both smoked for apx 50 years. I was a 2PAD smoker and he was close to that. Saw a Blu commercial in Sept 2012 and bought 4 just to try. Then I bought the Joye Ego-T(VV) kit and we smoked our last analog the last day of the September. I had tried gum, patches, pills-all the devices and groups but never quit for over a few days. Both of us are doing great on e-cigs, no complications or withdrawals or any problem. My only problem is trying every flavor I can (I can't taste many flavors) but that is part of the fun. I would tell anybody who smokes the analogs to try the e-cig. Worked for us.

Way to go Boni! I quit using a blu, and also found the ego, then the twist, a provari....I use different devises for different settings, the provari never leaves the house. I recently purchased a ecab, it is great for the pocket at work (I don't use the tank, they just leak) as are the ego 350 mini's. I didn't taste anything for a while, started buying flavoring to add to the vendors flavors and that started my diy'ing when I figured out how much cheaper that would be. My husband who has smoked for around 50 years shows no interest in my ecig even though I havent smoked in over a year, I don't say anything about his smoking, nor do I play up my ecig or quitting. If he ever wants to stop it is his decision on how to do it.

Good for you Radel for finding vaping for yourself. I do admire that you were able to do that. I'm so glad Mike and I started this together because it made it so much easier. And you're wise to not push it. It's gotta be your own choice and not because someone is telling you to do it. Mike and I both knew that eCigs were out there for a few years, Mike even tried one at the mall one Christmas, but didn't bite. Then one day I got it in my head to try it and the research began and here we are. I guess we were finally ready for it. I must say that ecf helped a lot in that decision because we felt we were getting the opinions of real users rather than the hype from any one manufacturer. When and if your hubby decides to give it a try he'll have you as his resident expert who can help him on his path. You probably already know what would be a good device and juice that he would like. Patience grasshopper!!

Before I go and start a new thread ill ask here my vivi head I have a 3.2 head over the course of the last few weeks the ohm's have gone from 3.5 when it was new to 2.4 now why is that? Is it just wearing thinner therefore becoming less resistant?and will it continue to the end?

A build up of gunk on the coil will affect the ohms. Have you cleaned and dry burned it really well?

Another thing that can happen, the coils expand and move a bit when heated up. If '2' are touching (even junked together) the ohms can drop.

Curiosity question - was it really a 2.8Ω head reading at 3.2Ω, I haven't seen 3.2Ω heads being sold.

Fran, here's a cut and paste from another thread on working with SS. And yes, make sure you wash it and boil it before using it. Just torching it isn't enough to clean off the oil residue from the manufacturing process.

"My trouble in learning to do coils on SS was mainly a wick prep problem. I'd get hot spots on the coil, and thought it was a coil issue, when in fact it was a short due to poor wick prep. Here's some key SS prep tips

Wash the SS with soap and water, then boil it to remove the production oil residue

Cut it carefully along the natural grid to minimize fraying

Oxidize the small sheet with your torch prior to rolling

Fold and crease a one centimeter flap, then roll starting on the non-folded edge up toward the fold. This method will wrap the raw edge inside the wick and is a key in avoiding hot spots.

Check for fit then flame the new wick thoroughly with your torch.

Saturate the wick with juice and burn it off 3 times.

Insert the wick and wrap a reasonably snug and well space coil. Adjust coils using a tooth pick, not a steel tool that might scratch the oxidation."

~ Michael B - at 12% the Peppermint (for me) is not like Altoids. More like a peppermint candy strength. Of course, it may differ for you, I think my tastebuds may be more worn out than some folks.

~ Tx ... I want one of those glass Kangers!

~ Moishe, so sorry, didn't realize that big 18650 won't work. I just looked for protected and had seen a site that said they will work in a Bolt. Wish batts were universal.

Guess what ya’ll? Last night I got me a new round tuit AND a stick tuit. First, I added a double strand bamboo over-wick to a T2 coil and tried it out. It was SO great! So, I held on to my stick tuit real tight and approached building my second wick/coil.

Turns out I couldn’t have built one without that stick tuit, because the bamboo was kinda hard for me to work with because there is no stiffness to it like the wick material I used the first time. I finally got it though…whew. I won’t be entering any wick/coil building contests, but it works and has a definite flavor improvement over the first one. I think I will get the hemp soon and try that too, and hoping it might have a little stiffness to it.

I am REALLY pleased with the over-wick on my T2. I’m including a pic for anybody who still uses T2’s and might want to try one. Just like threading a needle, easy peasy ~ then trim the ends to the length you want. To me, the flavor seems improved and I have not had to roll it even once to keep it feeding. Yay!

Kat....Don't be silly-no problem. I've been looking at batts now for days & I truly appreciate your input. I hit the 'send' last night for a couple of Panasonic 'high drain hybrid IMRs - 2250mAh. General consensus seems that the IMR is safer then the 'protected' & the measurements seem perfect...we'll see. Thanks so much for taking the time to help - when it comes to batts (& everything else these days) I have the brains of a road-cone......

I cleaned it yesterday and dry burnt to the point it glowed red but it still looks like build up in there I know the little plastic guard is still there and it looks like it got hot and distorted. This weekend when i get home I'll get out my "superman" glasses and get a closer look

I have a question for the "older folks" (that's a relative term, if I ever did hear one!).....both of my parents (in their 60s-70s) have smoked for 40+ years. How many of you quit smoking/started vaping at that age? Neither of my parents is especially tech savvy, nor do I feel I have a hope in heck of interesting them in vaping (and I usually only see them once a year in the summer), but I'm curious to know. I met a couple around their age at a local B&M store while purchasing some of my first juices. The gentleman had COPD and was trying to quit, but had obviously been dragged there by his wife. She tested some of the juices (it was also obvious that this was new to them) and chose a few, and offered him to take a hit off her new eGo....he sputtered and coughed and got upset...said if that was what this was like he'd never quit and stormed out of the building. I think about that couple often, wondering if he ever tried it again...for his health's sake, I certainly hope so. Anyhoo, any takers? I know it's impossible to quit unless one wants to, but I'm curious as to whether I can teach an older dog(s) some new tricks :)

I just passed turning 59- smoked 46+ years- tried vaping out of curiousity.. and quit smoking immediately. I reasoned that all my body craved was the nicotine and hand-to-mouth motion. It surprised me that it was not hard after smoking over a pack per day- tho none of my friends were as successful. I never did try the patch- I was never taking that medicine- and had only quit, briefly, twice in all the years. I have vaped for almost 17 months now and hope to stop eventually- tho I love vaping, lol. Hope your parents will try again soon. (I did not read all the posts following yours, yet- so there are prob many others that were as fortunate as me.)

Kat - make yourself a 'needle threader' for pulling the wick through the coil. Take a small length of you coil wire and fold it in half. Push the folded 'point' through the coil. Loop a piece of the bamboo wick through it and pull back through the coil . Ta-da wick threaded through the coil.

eta: actually sometimes you can find a large/xtra-large needle threader in the craft / sewing stores, keep an eye out.

    Thanks Mike :D

Oh, and an update. I'm now on the bottom 3rd of the joose in the tank on my T2 with the overwicked coil. Still no dry hits and no need to roll. No gurgling either. Maybe all my rolling caused the gurgling? I often thought that, but no choice because ya gotta avoid dry hits.

I smoked for over 40 years. I tried several ways to quit, but couldn't. At first I tried the cigarette looking things, which didn't help me at all.

I joined the forum, and was suggested trying a eGo Twist-C, and a Vivi Nova tank. I selected my own juices that were other than tobacco flavored. I wanted as far away from anything that had to do with smoking. There aren't any liquids that really taste like a cigarette anyway.

I would suggest they try 24 mg strength nicotine to start with, then ease down to 18 mg. From there, they can keep diminishing the level of nicotine they are using.

I like citrus juices, but everyone has different opinions on what they like best. Some people like sweet flavors, others on the sour side.

It may take a while to get over craving cigarettes because they did it for so long. It took me a month to despise cigarettes all together, and now I can't stand the smell of anyone smoking near me. I never realized how much I stunk when I smoked.

Deb, your approach is pretty close to what you want.

2/3 of 36 nic PG and 1/3 vg will get you to 24 nic w/ a 67/33 PG to VG ratio.

Then if you added 12% flavoring the nic would drop to about 21 mg and the PG/VG ration would be 70/30 (assuming the flavoring is PG)

For example, you would use 30ml of the 24 nic base and 4ml of flavoring when mixing the juice.

Thanks so much Mike! And thanks for not laughin at me. At least not out loud here hehehe With all that being half off, I think I'll try it. I gotta make me some of Iffy's GAP. I had put it away, but pulled it out last night and it's still the best juice I've ever tasted! Love love that green apple.

Here are links to other calculators that should work for you Deb.

Thanks hun, I'll take a look at those!!

Deb, do a search on yer computer and see if you have "Net Framework 3.5" If you don't, or you have and older version, add it. If you have a newer version you have to remove that first, and then add in ver.3.5. . No guarantee it is you particular problem, but that's exactly what happened to me, and I finally got it to work! Good luck!

    Kewl, I'll check that out.

Curiosity question - was it really a 2.8Ω head reading at 3.2Ω, I haven't seen 3.2Ω heads being sold.

I know for sure Gotvapes has em, cept they were out yesterday when I wanted to order one. Was gonna get some more 2.8's and a 3.2 and those are the two they were out of, so they must be popular.

I know the little plastic guard is still there and it looks like it got hot and distorted.

Do you mean the plastic-ish thingy around the coil? Yeah those will get a bit charred sometimes if the coil is too close to it. I'm pretty sure ya don't mean the plastic cap with the metal thingy in it. I have seen folks not know to take that off before dryburning, but you've been on here a few months so I expect you do know that.

That's some kind of silica sleeve. It' purpose isn't entirely clear. Some same to help insult the pos lead from shorting others say it's to 'soak' up some of the juice an keep both leads from heating up and causing a burnt rubber grommet at the bottom.

I do know it's not needed. When I rebuild, the 1st thing I do is throw it away. All of mine have looked scorched and burnt - don't need that 'extra' flavor added to my vape.
