I smoked 2 PAD for 44 years. I'll be 70 in June :) Have not had a cigarette now since 12/5/2011..so that's close to 13 months smoke free.
It took me from October 5 th to December 5th back in 2011 to finally end the cigarettes. Got down to 1 cigarette a day and thought boy is this dumb, put that last one down and never looked back. Made up my mind to not vape anything tobacco flavored and that worked for me.
I had tried the gum, smoke-away, patches etc before I tried the e-cigarette. Nothing worked for any length of time. The first try with an e-cig in 2010 did not work, but when I got a Titan 510, that did it :) That and 24 meg e-juice. I now vape 6 meg juice so the nic level has declined over the 13 months.

Wahoo! I really like hearing success stories. Welcome to our part of ECF, do hope you stay around.

Ah yes the mental issues. I deal with those triggers daily although I've cut it to half a pack a day. I think my problem
is my caffeine intake. You never see me without a Stabucks dark roast in my hands all the way up to bedtime. Yes I'm
one of those jittery, anxious smokers, more mental need than physical. MAOIs anyone?

Oh how I want a banner in my sig!

Old C - have you tried any juice w/ WTA - it helped me kick the last of my stinkies. I hung onto 1/2 pack a day for near a month, then couldn't let go of the last 1/2 doz a day. Then i tried some WTA juice and had my last cig that day. It's coming up on 14 month's since I had a smoke - and that's after 2 1/2 PPD and 45 years addicted to cigarettes.

oh - and something else - I'm a high anxiety guy too, and over the holidays Janet mixed me some juice at around 7 mg's nic. I've been vaping that at least 50% of the time (normal nic is 18mg for me). I'm finding I'm more addicted to the hand-to-mouth thing to be doing something than I am the nic. Like in Iffy's sig line - if I'm awake I vape. I was a chain-smoker and vape the same way.

Hey guys....if you REALLY want to calculate how much you've saved by switching...Australia is now charging $20 a pack. I do believe that would have made me go cold turkey. Bet they have a great 'black market'!

Yikes!

I just turned 50 and have been smoking since I was 17

I would love to say I am smoke free but I just can't, I have been sneaking a couple in the morning when I get up before my wife. Each morning I get up, make coffee, go out for a smoke, instantly regret it, get fresh coffee, have another smoke, regret that too, drink coffee and watch the news. Once I have the couple of ciggies out of my system in the morning I seem to be OK with vaping for the rest of the day...

I started vaping on 12/21/12 (the end of the world as I knew it?) and instantly cut from 1 1/2 PAD to less than 5. My wife was so impressed that she started vaping the week after I did and she has only had a couple real smokes since as far as I know.

Pat yourself on the back, don't beat yourself up. Look at how many you haven't smoked. You're doing fine. Vape on!

Well I did it - hit the buy button and now have a purple spinner on the way. Also ordered a T3 with the purple metal tank - I think it will look like this

purplem-t3_2.jpg

Also ordered a few more backup things. So even though my amount saved does not equal what I have spent - I am actually ahead by $170 because I had 4 weeks where I did not buy any smokes - before I actually quit. Now I get to stalk the mailman :banana:

Welcome to kfrisbee - good luck to you and your wife. Hopefully the day will come when you just ask why you are having the few you are still smoking - but in the mean time, like everyone says - just count the ones you are not smoking :)

@Constance
Nice that you joined in here! Congrats on 13 months smoke free!!!
We have a similar story and I quit cigs 5 days after you. :)

@kfrisbee
From 1 1/2 packs to 5 is awesome!! That means you've cut out 25 cigs. That's huge!
I wouldn't doubt that the last 5 will go by the wayside at some point in time. That's fantastic that you're wife started vaping with you!

I had a few each day when I started vaping and finally ran out. Went in the store the next day and bought coffee but "forgot" to buy cigs. Went home and vaped myself silly but have not had another desire to buy cigs again. Kept reaching for the pack and lighter for about 10 days. Habits die hard. :)

@Kari
That purple Spinner looks great with that purple T3! The purple Spinner is my favorite of the 4 that I use now. It's just so purdy.

I've come full circle. 15 month's ago when I started vaping I was using fluval and blue aquarium foam for stuffing in my 510 cartridges. Well I've left my beloved 510's behind long ago (beloved 'cause they got me of cigs). But I'm back at the fish store buying vaping supplies again.

This time it's for aquarium ceramic bubble stones. Cut out a section, grind to size / shape and use it for a wick in Genesys RBA's. It's the lastest craze.

The wickis in the sauce pan boiling for 15 minutes. Then it's off to cut to size, wrap a coil, and give it a vape or 2 or 3 or 4 or more. :vapor:

    Mike, ya don't know how relevant your venture is to my ol' experiences! Yepper, did the 'blue foam' cart exercise; right before I found eMDCCS.

    This air stone wick exposure has re-whetted my 'syringe-based tank' enthusiasm. Hades, I might even wrap a coil or two!

    BTW, that's one hellava job ya did on that fish respirator! Looks better than da others in dat thread. Any 'secrets'?

    I just loved reading all the success stories when I got off from work today. Love it, Love it, Love it!

    I too battled with those last few smokes a day for quite a long time. At first, (and this will sound a little crazy), it felt to me like I was betraying an old friend. How could I just walk away? Been together so many years...through thick and thin. Just felt wrong somehow in my mind. Finally got through that part, but still couldn't let them go. Stopped buying cartons...went to buying the 2 pack deal about every other week. Then it got to where every time I'd buy the 2 packs "self" would whisper in my ear and say "But why? You know you could get ___"various vaping goodie here"____ and enjoy it a lot more." The "why" finally won, and I still have a pack & a half just laying there. Can't bring myself to give them away just yet, except one at a time when my son-in-law or daughter-in-law ask me for one. But I'm getting there. Last cigarette (finally hehe) was October 18, 2012. YIPPEE

    You are all doing so great - love hearing your stories, and hope you'll stay and have fun vaping with us as we all journey along together :)

    SWEET! Can't let my bride see that. She might start vaping (never smoked) just for da purple 'accessory'. Her fav color used to be blue, but she's been on a purple binge lately...

    Have ya checked out any Swarovski crystals for some PV adornment?

    I found that thread a few days ago and was thinking the whole time I was reading it how much it seemed like something you would do! I was unsurprised when you joined the thread. It is now up to you to convince us all we need to start grinding up aquarium filters...

    Thanks Janet, is it alot bigger than an ego battery? Say a ego 900 twist?

    Here you go. The one on the left i my eGo 650. Then there's my Twist 900 and the Rider is on the right. Geeze, I pick up my 650 now and it seems like such a baby! And to think I thought it was big compared to my kr808!

    AAAHHHHHH...more purple beauties! How did this Rider slip by me? That is gorgeous and not too bulky. Do you have a mini Lavatube to compare it to by any chance? :)

    Oh, and does it read ohms on cartos/clearos?

    This will now be the replacement for the next batt that dies on me. Sad that now I'm wishing one would die! :unsure:

    Iffy - after cutting the section out with a diamond wheel on the Dremel I did the rest on a bench grinder with a fine stone. First I worked on the edges to get it somewhat square. The again I worked on 'the edges' to start rounding it off. Then from there is was just patience and a light touch working it round and down to size. I had an 1/8" drill bit by the grinder so I could see when I was getting close. Then just kept going little by little 'till it slipped easily into the 1/8" whole of the atty. Then I 'dressed' it by taking the diamond disk off the dremel and passed it along the length of the coil to even it out a bit.

    Oh they are fragile. Did I say they are fragile. If I did't let me repeat they are fragile. Broke both of them tonight. I rushed and wrapped the pos lead of the coil clock-wise around the post and when I tightened the screw, it pulled on the wick and snap it broke. The second one I cut a smidgeon to high and when I put the top cap on it hit the top of the coil and broke it.

    Ah well - there's aways tomorrow to make more. So glad I don't have to go to the office tomorrow (or ever again!).

    ha ha - I know what ya mean. I almost didn't want to give up my last couple smokes per day because then I wouldn't have a reason to carry my Zippo. Had the same one in my pocket for years and years and years - it was my friend. I think I still carried it for a couple weeks, even after my last smoke.

    It read ohms, voltage, and batt level.
