Older Folks and Vaping

Kat56, the control unit on it is the flat button one, which I think is the new control unit Joye came out with. The picture shows the raised button. I guess I don't get overly excited about the batteries...bought two extra ones but will keep in mind I can use the AW IMR battery with it "semiretied" 
I'm still not sure I really like that flat button. But can live with it. Works ok though. I just am used to feeling the raised one when I'm vaping and I have to look to find the flat one. 
MikeE3, cool looking pipe by Janty. Although the one TW has is more curved like most of the pipes I remember my dad used. But I would think getting carts other than the ones they sell for it might be hard?

Put the mildest amount of silicon caulk on the button and you can find it - it is what I did... Gives it a rubbery feel.

Really? That's odd to me, but then I'm all about doing research and getting opinions when it comes to stuff I know nothing about. Forums are often a great source for exactly that, so here I am!
I ordered the VOLT and a bunch of sample packs from SI. My quest being start simple and learn as I go. I intend... for the 1000th time... to quit smoking. Time will tell, but I have hope that I may have finally at least taken a step in the right direction.

You shouldn't have any issues stopping smoking just make sure to have a backup battery and joose. For me it was easy just to set them dang analogs down and replace them with a much better..... Insert word here...... It will work..... Lol

I ordered 20 cartidges to start, 2 batteries, and every dang charger system they had, to keep things up and running. Hopefully, this will hold me until I can at least give it a proper test and re-order.
The Volt is a good cig size pv and will give you a good vape. When you find out e-cigs will work for you you will probably want to move up to a bigger device. Good luck and stay in touch we are all here to help in anyway we can.

Yes, perhaps. I have to admit that right now the bigger devices aesthetically hold no appeal. But I've been cautioned by many to expect that to change. Another reason to start simple.
I have a question for the "older folks" (that's a relative term, if I ever did hear one!).....both of my parents (in their 60s-70s) have smoked for 40+ years. How many of you quit smoking/started vaping at that age? Neither of my parents is especially tech savvy, nor do I feel I have a hope in heck of interesting them in vaping (and I usually only see them once a year in the summer), but I'm curious to know. I met a couple around their age at a local B&M store while purchasing some of my first juices. The gentleman had COPD and was trying to quit, but had obviously been dragged there by his wife. She tested some of the juices (it was also obvious that this was new to them) and chose a few, and offered him to take a hit off her new eGo....he sputtered and coughed and got upset...said if that was what this was like he'd never quit and stormed out of the building. I think about that couple often, wondering if he ever tried it again...for his health's sake, I certainly hope so. Anyhoo, any takers? I know it's impossible to quit unless one wants to, but I'm curious as to whether I can teach an older dog(s) some new tricks
I smoked 50 years but wanted to quit. I started with mistic from Walmart. I thought it had to be just like a cig same size,same weight,etc. After I tried an ego with clearomizer,different juices i was happy. Now I like Vamo,Zmax ,Evic. My health has greatly improved.

53 years here and quit on my 64th b'day, was just trying to cut back on my 3 pack habit and 3 weeks later was smoke free. Dec 2010.

45+ years of smoking here. I agree, ya gotta WANT to at least try. I am now just over 14 months smoke free.
I started vaping at 64 after 45 years of 'bakky.
Must say that when introducing vaping to a smoker, don't have 'em fully inhale a long draw. Let 'em get the taste and gradually have 'em inhale up to their own rate/volume.
With the recent advancements in our vaping equipment, it's somewhat easy to 'overwhelm' a n00bie!
What's kinda humorous is that I'm the oldest vaper (probably the first also) in my area. Ol' dogs can teach da pups some new tricks!

That's fantastic, Iffy. And thanks to all who have or will reply! And they're not especially computer-savvy. I don't know that my dad has ever touched one and my mom thinks all of her emails are actually "on her machine". Love 'em though, and would like to see them quit if they're willing.

I don't personally believe using a PV is actually quiting .. most still crave the nic, me included .. is it better than an analog .. ?? We like to think so ..
The key to "changing" from analogs to PV is
1) Openmindedness
2) Desire to Change
3) Desire to Change
4) Desire to Change ..

Amy, do they go outside to smoke or smoke inside? Also, is money an issue?
The reason I'm asking is that those are the two things most likely to encourage someone to switch that doesn't want to otherwise. No one likes being told what to do. And, everyone is always telling us what's good for us or what we SHOULD do.
But, saving money and saving discomfort are much better encouragement than fear or pressure.
My other suggestion has to do with simplicity.
I've been trying to find the right set-up for my daughter. She wanted to quit. She liked the look and feel of the SI Volt. But, it turned out to be too much trouble to have to gauge when and if they needed topping off. She also had tried a regular 510 with PCC and an 801. Nothing seemed to be working.
Finally, I found what works for her. A Stardust (CE4) on a 650 mah eGo battery, in purple! Small enough to be easy to carry, long enough battery life for a moderate smoker, and easy to fill (and to know when to fill). Oh, the juice. She's vaping Tiramisu.
And, not being too computer savvy can be a very good thing. Without being tempted by all the goodies online, vaping is practically free once you get yourself set up.

I had been smoking for 47 years when I found vaping! Wow, even seeing that in black & white gives me the shivers!
Quit cigarettes when I received my first kit. I was 69 then!
My desire to quit was the key ingredient to my success!
