Well here's another PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: aka another lesson learned

It's been said by the man himself before, but for the sake of the newcomers, It's worth reiterating that we assume all the risk when we buy our own block.

Remember this stabilized Gem Maple beauty? Turns out the "stabilization" produced a rock-hard block and on top of that it broke Pdib's jointer knives. So not only am I out for the block, I also owe Mr. Bee replacement tools.. it's all good though :toast:

take note that this is STABILIZED TYPE A which is harder than TYPE B

Makes a real nice wheel chock for Pdib's truck tho..:D

figure this is library worthy . . . . (from the other thread) . . .

Hey kids. here's a little tidbit. well . . . .. a big tidbit in my thinking. Mark from burlsource is liking my peeps. (don't know what y'all are doing when you visit him, but keep doin' it!) If you're buying from him for a mod, follow his directions ↓ and not only does it get you a discount, but it also alerts him to end use, and he can base block cuts on the data.

Hello Peter,
I set things up in my web store so your customers can have a 10% discount.
The way it works is;
Place the piece(s) to be purchased in the shopping cart and go to checkout.
There will be a field where it asks for a promotional code.
In that field enter the lower case letters mod

Burl Source Knife Handle Wood

You already know that I'm finding him to be the most reliable and helpful provisioner of things stabilized. Best record for quality as well. Turns out, he's real nice too.

just gonna drag this over from the fat thread . .. . .

Oh! this is totally cool!

Hi Peter,

I have set up a category in my web store called PDIBs Mod Blocks
With blocks meeting minimum dimensions for your mods.
I thought this would help to keep your customers from getting unsuitable blocks. As well as make it easier to find what they need. Later this weekend I will go through my inventory so other suitable pieces get referenced in your category.
Currently there are some Maple burl and some Ancient Bog Oak blocks that I just finished adding to the web store.

thanks Mark!

Yes, way too early. There's more pretty wood growing as we speak.

And, who knows, I may have engaged my retirement plan* before your turn.

*I'd always dreamed of retiring into selling horse manure from the back of a jalopy pickup truck in my golden years. y'know? Straw hat, pitchfork . . . . . like 'at.

. . . . .. at my own pace tho! . .. .

nice and easy. ;)

Why horse manure and not cow manure?

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:

REDWOOD BURL: This natural beauty is unfortunately weak and will not hold up in the manufacturing process. Please ask Pdib first before you buy your own block.

I probably have the only OliveR to ever be made in redwood burl and it's sketchy wood for sure. Very crumbly and it breaks like glass. You can even flake off chunks of the wood on the edges with your fingernail; yes its that delicate. Pretty though. Weak wood is a curse though. I love this mod and prefer to use it exclusively; which is a problem because its not very durable. So it stays home... alone... on the kitchen counter... waiting for me... alone... with no one to vape it during the day. Can't wait for my #2 so I can have one when I'm out and about.
