I'm still floored since my discovery of a FLASHLIGHT FORUM! All this time, I thought I was cool because I own a huge rechargeable Maglight..

... BOOKMARKED!!!.... the next time somebody calls my hobby "weird", I'll tell 'em, " You should see these guys in the flash light forum." LOL, just kidding!! :toast::toast:

Oh, as long as I'm rambling . .. . has anyone ever tried this? (we used to do this with the cheap DID clones . .. the screw on cap would never align the airhole). Put some sandpaper on a flat surface, and set the cap on it. Sand it a little (little circular motions, keeping it set firm and flat against the paper). Check to see where it spins to now. Sand some more, check, sand, check. You can probably get about 100-180° of airhole location adjustment just like that. don't forget, the airhole is gonna move clockwise, always seating a little further in the spin.

oh, we used to do that with the early AGA-Ts too, I think.

Dummy me! I'm picturing the cap laying on its side doing this, and I'm going "nuh uh!!! That's not physically possible for the hole to move from where it is, just by sanding the sides! He's lost his mind!" LOL

THEN I figured out what you were meaning......I'll just go back to lurk mode now!

Yea... I've made my way over there a few times while doing battery research... Some of guys REALLY know their batteries.
I was blown away by price tags on high end flashlights & laser pointers. It'll definitely make you feel better about dropping a comparatively small amount of $$$ on high end PVs & attys.

You've obviously never been to a Volkswagen forum
Where purposely rusted hoods, and argyle fender threads are the norm... but ask for a wiring diagram, and all you hear is crickets.

Hipsters... I find it ironic that they never seem to know the actual definition of the word...

Yup, I'm not surprised at all. I've invested more than 1K bucks on dive lights . I have a few of these sola lights for underwater video

Beware! Flashlights can become as much of a hobby as vaping. I was on the verge of becoming a flashoholic before I started vaping.

The vast majority Chinese lumen ratings are absolute LIES, even especially on Amazon and Ebay. Although Amazon reviews are very helpful when the flashoholics chime in. That said, there are a some great forums for information and modding. You can also get good information about the brightness of the lights.

The forums also list reputable venders, IIRC.

CandlePowerForums
BudgetLightForum.com | ...where Frugal meets with Flashlight!

So what exactly IS the addiction to flashlights all about? IE, what is it that draws one to collecting flashlights? Shape, color, something else?

I assume you must be talking about newer VW's. The VW forums I am a member of are for the air cooled. Most are very knowledgeable in mechanics and general DC automotive. Course most of us are older than our "antique" vehicles. LOL

Course, I have dropped more on individual parts than everything to date with vaping.

As for flashlights, I ordered 2 from Fasttech for my first ever Fasttech order (Because I wanted an Ohm meter for 510 and Ego, and no one else had them in stock at the time).

I got a Convoy C8 Cree XM-L U2-1B 2-Group 3/5-Mode LED Flashlight from there for $16.51. It's a cheapie, but I got it to use with a spare 18650 battery. It doesn't remotely have the quality of one of the old time MagLite flashlights in construction... but then, the ones I had were little filament bulbs and not LED too. Maybe I haven't seen enough flashlights... but I don't get the cost difference between them...

There's this one place in san diego where every Sunday the VW guys meet up and show off their projects. Those guys are freakin' amazing.

I'm not expert but some of the difference is in reflector and lens quality. Then electronics used and voltage drop or efficiency. Plus not only what electronics but how they are put together also affect quality and cost.

yes, mainly talking about VWVortex....

But the guys i cruise with are air-cooled guys. So i understand the difference in the two crowds.
Even though i have a radiator, they have accepted me as one of their own....
Apparently 3" of oil-pan to asphalt isn't low enough for the cool kids. :glare:

You should check out the disc golfers forums. We are just as nuts. Wife thought I was crazy for bidding $115 for a single disc( a skullboy stamp signed by him with the concept drawing thrown in. Got sniped right before the auction closed).

It doesn't matter what your hobby is... You can spend a little or a lot. It just depends on the $$$ you have available to spend on it and how far down the rabbit hole you're willing to go.

I'd be hard pressed to give a "reasonable" explanation for my PV collection to someone who doesn't already get it... So, I don't expect a flashlight/laser enthusiast to give me "reasonable" explanation.

Yes, and I didn't mean it in an insulting way when I asked, I genuinely wanted to know what the "lure" is - maybe I am missing out on something. ;)

And it would be difficult for me to explain to someone why I'd spend $2K on a snake! :p
