But if you give us your silver whatever will you do about the Seattle werewolves...?

Yup, you'd then have a transistorized mod. This wouldn't eliminate the need for a switch entirely, but your switch would then only have to control the minuscule amounts of current needed to charge/discharge the gate of the MOSFET, meaning you could use darn near anything as a switch and it would last essentially forever. I was stewing on this too the other day. 100A MOSFETs are available for under $5.00 and have ON resistances around 5 milli-ohms or less. No, actually that is one part of a discussion about designing boost converters. Just some light reading to stay up with current trends. Adding a MOSFET as a switch doesn't require delving into anything anywhere near this level. That would be straightforward and simple, but then it wouldn't be a pure mech anymore.
Count me in on the silver as well.![]()
So, a question for my peeps. Who would be willing to pay ~$15/pc for solid sterling silver fire button contacts? I'm thinking of ordering some and modding them up to work nicely in the existing button assembly. Basically, it would replace the screw-in "contact" part of the button assembly. Between cost+shipping and modding time to make them work for us, they would cost about that much. This, I think, would be a luxury add-on. We certainly don't all need one; but some of us might just think it's the pig's chin whiskers*. I think I've got it all figured out as to the way to make this work, and, as always, the solution is amazingly simple and tidy. Not a sure thing yet; but it looks promising (in the spacious yet eerie expanse of my mind).
*that's good . .. . . right?
Just in case anyone still needed to get some wood (giggidy), burlsource.us is having a sale on all their stabilized dyed blocks.
Dyed and Stabilized Wood Blocks
yeppers... when mine is built I'd like any and all the jibber jammerz LVD (low voltage drop) upgrades available (at the time) High function and beauty all in one... OMG![]()
You need to discuss via PM with Pdib, he wants to talk to each person before telling them the size. How big a block is needed for a Dibi?
Master of Bassets...and not much else.
Doing a little experiment with the materials I have on hand. Wanting to approximate using a threaded silver rod plug at the contact end of the battery assembly. Curious as to how it tarnishes, and how it performs when tarnished. This is a length of my Ag/BeCu spring material. Small contact surface area, so maybe it'll prove good/bad faster. Who knows what kin'a silver this is. So, real scientific, am I. When I first assembled this and fired it up, it singed the hair off my eyeballs and it made a toot-toot sound like a freight train would. (that, however, seems to be the case with any fresh contact assembly)
