A way off-topic post here, but I'm a bit shy to ask in the Reo sub-forum since I've been pestering Rob about this. I reckon most of us here have Reos, so maybe someone here would know.
Would it be ok to use acrylic or lacquer based clear paints on a Reo? I've been planning to clear coat the silver vein and copper vein mod that's coming my way and I want to make sure neither of these paints would harm the finish.
Thanks!

These dibi are custom handmade mods from pdib, a pretty ingenious innovator. When FB mentions this being the 3rd run, they have been made in runs of 10 at a time, that roughly take a month each, and are currently booked through the next 8 months. 3rd run means we're up to only 30 total mods ever made.
If you are looking for reviews, you have to look here, on this thread, as these mods cost from $250-$300 each, and that's not counting the custom wood being sent to pdib to make them, which can cost up to $100 a piece for just the wood. These are a bit too pricey to send to reviewers (who at this point would have to wait 8 months to be fair to those who already booked a spot many months ago, and that's if they order today).
So think handmade Rolls Royce of mods. Or Patek Philippe of watches (vs common ones like Rolex or Rado). They aren't often reviewed because reviewers can't get their hands on one. Every single mod made is unique, you're not going to get mass market reviews or comparisons if that's what you were asking.
The short answer is, they fall into a category of e-cigarettes called "Mechanical Bottom Feeders".
They are amazing! (says one who has a walnut DibiOliver from the first run and a place in run 8) Worth every penny!!
Update on my woodville: GG I coated the inside very well with vaseline and it worked for a couple hours before the tung oil slipped through. That was a month ago so stripped the vaseline and as much of the tung oil as I could then sanded the inside a lot till the wood was a lighter color. Wiped it all down well then applied shellac. It is still curing but already the smell is gone. I'm going to let it sit for a week or more to let it vape off all the fumes and harden well then we shall see!! *crosses everything*

Aha!!! I'll bet it was boiled linseed oil! Here's someone else complaining about the smell of it (I've never smelled linseed ... Tung oil doesn't smell bad... it smells like... hrm... a cross between cooking peanut oil and soybean oil for cooking): linseed oil smell | Fine Woodworking Knots
My understanding is that boiled linseed is one of the best natural wood finishes you can get... that also hardens over time like Tung does. But I've never used it. I did not notice any yucky smells on my 'natural' woodvil (the poly'd bloodwood had a varnish smell tho) when I got it, so could be that the mod you got was from the end of the linseed container, where sediment or separation occurred? Alternatively, maybe mine was from the end of the container, and so didn't smell because it didn't get much finish (which I didn't mind at all, since I sanded them both down more anyway).
You should try to ID the smell, so you can request people not use it for your stuff in the future. Different people have different smell sensitivities. Those without a nuanced nose for instance think the very subtle smell of Narcissus smells like dried cat piss... LOL!
I used to oil pant and LOVE the smell of linseed oil and this isn't it. It's like rancid doughnut frying oil. A little sweet, a bunch chemical a bunch rancid. It could be the treatment oil in combination with the wood, I don't know but at least it's fading! The many bottles and tubes I've used to try and be able to vape are airing out fine though so they will be able to be used again, thank goodness!!
ETA: And Narcissus reeks. I hate it when they are blooming anywhere as it smells like a very full cat box! I thought everyone smelled this and was very confused why anyone would have them in their home. They REEK to high heaven!![]()
Sweet!
I can tell you mine has darkened up quite nicely and has become very rich looking. Congrats element77 - you're going to love it!
