I apologize for the stupid question but what are these types of mods called? I would like to look em up to get more info on them.

They don't have an official name. Closest is OliveR, some call it a Dibi but EFC rules keep it from being a derivative of a user name.

Best facts are here. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...orum/524238-pdib-library-tech-specs-info.html

He's finishing run 3 now and has waiting list going into 2015.

I wonder if USPS will do me a solid and deliver my DibiPackage in 1 day... It's only a 2 hour drive haha

Finally got done drilling this dang Reactor RBA cap for dual coils last night. Cap is the toughest/thickest stainless I've attempted. Only took 4 1/16th drill bits and a couple puncture wounds  This little bugger is possibly my new favorite atty though. 15.75mm diameter, big thick neg posts, and really small chamber with two coils+cotton. Flavor is outstanding; better than my cyclone and I'm undecided if it is better than my Hornet yet. Dual coil thing is growing on me. :)

These dibi are custom handmade mods from pdib, a pretty ingenious innovator. When FB mentions this being the 3rd run, they have been made in runs of 10 at a time, that roughly take a month each, and are currently booked through the next 8 months. 3rd run means we're up to only 30 total mods ever made.

If you are looking for reviews, you have to look here, on this thread, as these mods cost from $250-$300 each, and that's not counting the custom wood being sent to pdib to make them, which can cost up to $100 a piece for just the wood. These are a bit too pricey to send to reviewers (who at this point would have to wait 8 months to be fair to those who already booked a spot many months ago, and that's if they order today).

So think handmade Rolls Royce of mods. Or Patek Philippe of watches (vs common ones like Rolex or Rado). They aren't often reviewed because reviewers can't get their hands on one. Every single mod made is unique, you're not going to get mass market reviews or comparisons if that's what you were asking:).

A way off-topic post here, but I'm a bit shy to ask in the Reo sub-forum since I've been pestering Rob about this. I reckon most of us here have Reos, so maybe someone here would know.

Would it be ok to use acrylic or lacquer based clear paints on a Reo? I've been planning to clear coat the silver vein and copper vein mod that's coming my way and I want to make sure neither of these paints would harm the finish.

Thanks!

I don't think any paint will 'harm' a painted finish, they are aluminum bodies ... I think I have a black wrinkle, and it looks like a pretty tough acrylic to me. If I were to paint it, I'd sand it first, although the surface is pretty sticky already. I haven't knocked a single snake off of mine yet and I throw them in my purse regularly.

The short answer is, they fall into a category of e-cigarettes called "Mechanical Bottom Feeders".

This explains why I haven't seen these before. Thanks.

They are amazing! (says one who has a walnut DibiOliver from the first run and a place in run 8) Worth every penny!!

Update on my woodville: GG I coated the inside very well with vaseline and it worked for a couple hours before the tung oil slipped through. That was a month ago so stripped the vaseline and as much of the tung oil as I could then sanded the inside a lot till the wood was a lighter color. Wiped it all down well then applied shellac. It is still curing but already the smell is gone. I'm going to let it sit for a week or more to let it vape off all the fumes and harden well then we shall see!! *crosses everything*

Megan... that is just bizarre... are you very sure it's Tung Oil that you are smelling?? Last nite, I applied the final 3rd coat of Tung oil to my Woodvils. It's already dry... and NO Tung oil smell is coming through... it smells like bloodwood. I didn't just do the woodvils, I also did my Ebony e-pipe, and it doesn't smell like anything (so you know that I'm not confusing Tung oil smell with bloodwood, there's no bloodwood smell on the ebony:p). IOW... the Tung oil smell is already completely 100% gone in less than 24 hours on the 3rd coat.

I don't think you have Tung oil... I have never used boiled linseed, but am wondering if that's what you had, and it didn't solidify? OR, he used a blend, and it separated, so you got a different ingredient that never hardened and is smelly? Like if he used say Formby's Tung Oil Finish, and the Tung Oil separated out so something else was left? Other thought was, if he used old Olive Oil, and it oxidized (went rancid), does the smell resemble rancid oil at all? Wish I could smell it, sounds REALLY strange...

Something I thought odd, my 'natural' finished Woodvil dried out pretty quick. That is, it definitely wasn't a Tung or boiled Linseed finish. Maybe he used 'natural oil' literally (some people do)... and picked olive oil? If the olive oil was already rancid when applied, the oxidation wouldnt' come out, you have to apply fresh, and when it seeps into the wood pores, it can't get oxidized because it's no longer exposed to air. Not sure, am not a wood expert, I've just been reading a lot about it to refinish my own.

The most strange is that most scented juices will just bury any subtle smell completely, but you still smell it!! I'm glad you sanded it all, but if shellac smells BETTER than what it smelled like before... all I can think of is rancid oil...

Aha!!! I'll bet it was boiled linseed oil! Here's someone else complaining about the smell of it (I've never smelled linseed ... Tung oil doesn't smell bad... it smells like... hrm... a cross between cooking peanut oil and soybean oil for cooking): linseed oil smell | Fine Woodworking Knots

My understanding is that boiled linseed is one of the best natural wood finishes you can get... that also hardens over time like Tung does. But I've never used it. I did not notice any yucky smells on my 'natural' woodvil (the poly'd bloodwood had a varnish smell tho) when I got it, so could be that the mod you got was from the end of the linseed container, where sediment or separation occurred? Alternatively, maybe mine was from the end of the container, and so didn't smell because it didn't get much finish (which I didn't mind at all, since I sanded them both down more anyway).

You should try to ID the smell, so you can request people not use it for your stuff in the future. Different people have different smell sensitivities. Those without a nuanced nose for instance think the very subtle smell of Narcissus smells like dried cat piss... LOL!

I used to oil pant and LOVE the smell of linseed oil and this isn't it. It's like rancid doughnut frying oil. A little sweet, a bunch chemical a bunch rancid. It could be the treatment oil in combination with the wood, I don't know but at least it's fading! The many bottles and tubes I've used to try and be able to vape are airing out fine though so they will be able to be used again, thank goodness!!

ETA: And Narcissus reeks. I hate it when they are blooming anywhere as it smells like a very full cat box! I thought everyone smelled this and was very confused why anyone would have them in their home. They REEK to high heaven!

Ahhh... bet tuberose totally grosses you out too, as well as a lot of commercial perfumes. It's the Indole, which is also in fecal matter and cat piss. You are just highly sensitive to that particular smell, do you like Jasmine flowers? That also has a lot of indole. Typically, people who only smell the indole are not capable of smelling the other elements in those flowers (and perfumes either). It's like being colorblind for sight, and you can only see say red and blue, but not green or yellow.

Wish I could smell your mod now!!! So curious:). LOL!
