@Mrmik - I've gained 22lbs. since quitting smoking and going to vaping only in Jan. 2014. Went from 1 - 1 1/2 PAD for 42 years, to vaping 6mg eliquids. Did not change my diet at all (the amount of food I eat, the types of foods I eat, when I eat, etc.), the amount of exercise I get...nor anything else. I also take thyroid meds, but had been on the same dosage for the last 23 years, with my weight never changing more than 2-3 pounds up or down, in that time period. Then I quit smoking, and in the last 2 1/2 years have gradually added the 22 pounds.

My endochronologist won't change my meds to help with the weight gain (nor other symptoms I'm having related to thyroid issues now that I quit smoking). He told me that quitting smoking changes your whole metabolism. That's why even many people who didn't replace smoking with eating more, nor eating snacks and other things as smoking replacements, will still gain the weight. So...maybe that's what's happened to you, too!

Since he won't adjust my meds, I'm considering raising my nic level in my DIY eliquids. I want to see if that makes a difference in my weight, and in my energy level that's been way down since quitting smoking.

I'll be interested in hearing if your weight changes if you adjust your nic level.

I decided to track my calories in/out about 3.5 years ago using myfitnesspal (recently switched to fitbit) to try and lose weight and have went down from 210+ to 147 as of this morning. Switching from smokes to vape 14 months ago did not slow down my weight loss at all but I am meticulous about weighing my food, and tracking my exercise/steps, to track my cals in/out as accurately as possible. In fact I had a hard time trying to maintain my weight when I decided 150 was where I wanted to be over the past winter and got as low as 140 before I started using a step tracker on my wrist (used to just use my phone to track longer walks and bike rides) to more accurately track my daily calorie burn.

Was not worried about stocking up because I am at zero nic.
How wrong was I.......
Since winter, I gained 20+ lbs! Everything in my life has been just the same except that I stopped nicotine.
Now, it has to be the zero nicotine in my vape causing my rapid weight gain.
Dr health checkup and blood works are just as usual.
Just made a batch of 500 ml of juice including 3 mg nic.
And a nic bottle is on the way which should be good enough for at least 2 years.
Heh.... if I lose weight in the next few months, it sure is an easy way for weight loss other than to restrict food intake. LOL

At the time I switched from smoking to vaping, I also happened to change my diet. I got off processed foods and made sure to eliminate any GMOs and introduced coconut oil to some things. After that, I was actually struggling to keep weight on. So this may be one option to adding/upping nicotine, depending on how you eat.

I also have underactive thyroid and am on meds for it.

I do think there is something about nicotine and appetite. I gained 20lb when I quit smoking last year. Got that off fairly quickly when I put my mind to it and stayed around that weight for a year. In June I started to reduce my nic levels and put on 20lbs.

Not in the beginning, but I have lost weight. My taste buds just changed to much. I don't care for a lot of the junk food that I used to thrive on. To sweet, to greasy, etc...

I have never liked sweets that is until I quit smoking. Vaping hasn't changed that...I used to be skinny now I have boobs. Food just tastes better and I have put on 30lbs but I'm old so I can get away with it...like who cares what old people look like lol. Your kids still love you.

me and 10lbs have been going round and round. i am a 'hyperactive' person,, so its very frustrating .. i think nic also keeps you 'regular',, since vaping my junk food intake is nearly 0 now.. and those darn 10lbs show up without warrant! i even dropped all carbs.. i have been all veggies and meat for months. i told my husband i am ready to start my 6 day fasts again (i used to do them often when i smoked)

I put the latest weight on since the beginning of June. I also started dropping my nic levels. I reversed the change some and I may abandon the change for now. Bouncing off 275 isn't a good thing.

Been vaping close to two years and Aug 31 will mark a year having quit smoking. I began eating healthier around the same time I quit smokes and lost about 45 lbs. Cut my nic from 5-6 mg to 2mg the past few months and put on 8 pounds. I also haven't been exercising for the past 2-3 months as well. Perhaps the nic level is relevant. I hadn't really thought about it. Glad it was brought up. :)

Interesting, I lowered my Nic and feel like I am gaining weight. Hmmm maybe I better up it again LOL and buy a bit more Nic!

That the dilemma I find myself in. My stockpile was worked out including a slow steady decline in nic. If I can't get pass the first step I have a lot less years than I had planned on.

Did you say you switched from vaping to smoking?

Congrats Fozzy. You are an inspiration!

For me I noticed if I can't vape, I eat and I noticed for the first 2 weeks of lowing my nic I did snack more. I'm starting to think less nic means more junk food for me!
Me too for a out a week into the new lower nic. That and the fact the TH is really important to me will probably keep me from going any lower than 4 or 5.

I think it's a way that my body tells me something is missing.
