Here is my first build, slowly working my way through, on page 305, been building kanger heads for a lil while, had alright luck with the aga, but didnt spend the time to get em working right, because well, i was brought into reoville... and the aga just doesnt compare... nothing ive even tried compares... but anywho... stuck with a bunch of 30 gauge kanthal... twisted some to get down to 1 ohm instead of 1.5 with a decent micro... i forget the wraps, believe its 8... but its 1 ohm... and its very very nice... cant speak for flavor because... well... sick... cant tell flavor... enough from me... heres my cruddy pics from a cruddy digital camera...

Alrighty. This is what I came up with after taking everyone's helpful comments and cramming them into my pea-sized brain. I forgot to try reorienting the coil so it's diagonal to the deck. I guess that's what I'll try next.

It's better, but I still get frequent scorched hits. Only solution I've found so far is to plug the air intake hole on the side of the base and take a couple HARD primer pulls. If I can remember to keep taking hard pulls, it behaves. But I much prefer a long, slow draw, and every time I try one of those I get a throat full of hurt!

btw, juice viscosity doesn't seem to be a factor. I'm having the same issues with 100%VG (like Boba's Bounty) and 70PG/30VG blends.

looks like you are using too much wicking material, your coil isn't slanted, you don't want any cotton/material covering the channels, and you should really take a look at the kayfun owners manual. It will show (after slating the coil) that the tail will bend parallel to the coil. You want the juice to flow freely up to the deck, then your wick capturing all that juice

More cotton! Also, I've been told that if you cover up those juice channel slots too snugly with your wick, air will not be allowed to escape out of the coil chamber and trade places with your juice as you draw. personally, I've never had a problem sealing off the juice channels, but I've heard that it can happen if you really stuff your wicks down in there.

Thanks again for all the input gang. The diameter of that coil is about 2.4mm. That's what I've been using for all my other micro coils in drippers as well as Foggers and Taifun clones. If that sounds too large, I'll definitely make a smaller one, and this time I'll angle the coil.

As for how much cotton should be on the deck, how about if I start small and then add little bits if it dry hits? As opposed to making a whole new wick. I'm under the impression that as long as all the wee bits are in contact, it would be essentially the same as it being one whole wick. Then again, I'm (quite obviously, heh) no expert at fluid dynamics, soooo......

zip I still think that your issue is that the juice channels aren't deep enough, I know you don't have the tools but maybe you could try to carefully and slowly use a drill and a 1/16 bit and slowly start to shave a bit off (at low speed)

I will get mine in a couple of days and I'll report on how I solved it

The "less is better" thing works for me in Foggers and Taifuns. Go figure. I guess each device is different, especially when it comes to clones. It doesn't bother me too much, since I expect it from the price point. I mostly get frustrated with myself, not the device. That's why I appreciate all the help I get here. :)

I have mesh in my steam turbine, but every other genny, kraken included, and all running along 0.5 0hm. I run cotton, and I plan on tossing the mesh out of that thing too. I also took the cotton pretty tight but I make it larger on top so it fills the coils and I let a bit, about as long as the coil is self hang over the top no wicking issues.
Why don't you run cotton in your gennys?
How's your Kayfan running now..? I

I just haven't really taken the time to set up any of my gennys for cotton. I'm not opposed to it or anything, but the flavor and vapor I get from them is only like 1/100th less than what I get from Foggers, Taifuns, etc. And gennys are super duper easy for me to set up. I'm still on the learning curve with these bottom-coil designs.

I actually JUST did another build on the Kayfun. Man, I had that wick FLAWLESS. A carbon copy of the little curvy ones everyone is suggesting I use. Of course, I had a tiny bit out of place and it got caught in the chimney when I was screwing it down. Tore it to shreds! So I started again but tried tucking and positioning the tails AFTER screwing in the chimney.....

And it's definitely working BETTER, but I'm still having wicking problems. At this point, I think it's just down to trial and error. At least, thanks to you fine folks, I know what I should be aiming for, and that helps a LOT. :)
