hey jj but you could go bigger id lesser wraps higher power and still hit nice flav, but then thats just the way i run cus i use mechs ;) step up your ratio's

hey Tom thats dedication! 1k ft of 40g hehe you're gonn a have some fun
Slippy what you mean step up my ratios? That's the thing, I did a lesser wrap (6 wrap) 2.4mm (or 3?) ID 26/36g KA1 fused clapton dual in my El Cabron for the purpose of using on a mech. I only built it to use on my Castigador clone but I found the flavor was noticeably lacking compared to what I'm used to. It came out to like 0.17 ohms. With fresh batteries it should of been hitting 80-100 watts. I'm used to using 8 wrap 26/36 2 (or 2.4mm) ID fused claptons at 70 watts on my sigelei. The flavor is much better to me like that.

OK so the whole thing with the guessing with the ID is because of this: I have two sets of precision screwdrivers. I have a yellow Stanley set and a silver Herco? set. The 2.4mm Herco is the exact same size as the 2mm Stanley. The 2.4mm Herco is same as the 3mm Stanley. I don't know which is right lol.

I got 1000ft because it's probably going to take me about 30 feet of 40g per 2 feet of fused Clapton not to mention all the mistakes I'm going to make when I first start with it, what have I gotten myself into?! Haha it should be fun

Just think how good your gonna get :) ... you'll prob get that good you can afford to take a snooze as you start your 2ft, i know it takes quite a bit longer to wrap even with 0.1mm(38g) i havent got it in me to go any thinner than that.

On another note! wire is cheap in the USA compared to here in the UK, it seems that people that sell it here just change the dollar sign to a pound sign and thats what you pay...

how much can you get 100metre n80 22g for? $17.85 before postage here  it takes the piddle! I source mine from somewhere else where i can get 3x more but i bet you can still beat that?

as good as anything else ive vaped :)

Slippy, have you been using SS for a while? I'm interested to know how it is. Does it appear to change after dry burning? Any metallic taste? So you used one strand SS and one strand N80 for the core?

Yeah i've used it from time to time jj, i've used it since the days of it being called G-plat, back then when i tried it the first few time's i did taste something different to A1 but it's the same when i first tried n80 or Ti after vaping A1 for so long, you eventually get used to it, same can be said for the wicks we use jj even cotton at first has a funny taste for a while.
I'm not sure about it changing after a dry burn, only the colour go's blue then after a few glow's it go's to a dull colour.

One strand SS317 & one n80 inside a shell of 32g n80, just thought i'd give it a whirl as i've tried n80 & A1 together like this before and when it heats up it has i staged process where one will heat up before the other. i havent observed the n80's & SS317's heating sequence but at a guess not much in it.

I was just thinking of trying a build like this yesterday. I have a .... ton of SS316L sitting around and love some fused claptons. If only I had a regulated mod that would fire down past 0.1 lol. Might try it with some 26ga this weekend.
You def need to fuse if you use SS as a core that stuff is so dang soft. First time it was just a disaster, then i twisted it with either 28 or 30 then wrapped with 32 i believe...

I've used 316L in single core claptons in the past, just have to turn the wattage down because of the ramp up time. I used to use it exclusively on mech mods.

Why isn't SS more popular than it is right now? It's lower resistance than Kanthal? No nickel or iron in it. Is it really hard to work with?

Its really easy to work with. Not sure why it isnt so popular. Its cheap as dirt as well.

It's just unknown by a lot of people. The resistance is much lower than kanthal, hell, even lower than Nichrome. It is super soft, but using 24ga is easy to get the hang of.

ive never looked for it but maybe the way to go would to be to get the SS317 in say 32g to clapton around something, like A1 & n80;)

as ive said ive nvr looked so dont know if you can get SS in 32
What about durability? Do you find they last at least as long as Nichrome? I really am curious as to the oxidation that occurs when dry burning it. If it's deemed safer than Kanthal it seems like a win in virtually every department.
