Middle wrap twist? Can't even tell. Looks nice n tidy. Looks like that atty has seen a few pulses in its day[emoji12]

3 strands of 28 g kanthal braided, 6/5 wraps, ID = 2.4 mm, resistance = .23, single coil = awesome vapor and flavor @ 60 watts. Can't wait to try duals. Probably up the gauge to 30 so I can stay around .2.

Looks good. Did you loop your 3 wires to make 6 or braid the 3 singles?

Indeed I did loop the three to make six. So I guess I braided them in parallel?
I tried braiding three singles of 30 g nichrome the second time to make dual coils. I then wrapped each in parallel with 28 g kanthal. Got a beautiful blue when dry burning:

With a resistance of .14, this thing definitely chucks the clouds and provides good flavor at an easy 83 watts. 95 watts is quite pleasant, too. I'm a little nervous pushing to many watts through those 30 g wires though. Do I have anything to worry about?
It Vapes great at these high wattages.

The only thing you have to be careful about is that you don't melt wires when test firing for hotspot's without a wick full of juice to keep cool they can ramp up super fast, i always pulse anyway but with braided you need to do shorter pulses for sure.
The braid i posted on the previous page is a 5loop=10strands of 32g n80 at 2.5id and is an awesome vape at 70w but it could be run at 100w easily but i'd probably have to jump up to 3mm id.
Defo comparable to an alien coil, but using less power

To get that blue it was about a 3-5 sec pulse. Twice. The pic doesn't do the coloring justice either. It looked pretty to the naked eye, with the contrast on the 28g kanthal.
I prefer a higher vg. 70 + and I'm happy. Not a fan of my 50/50s anymore.

Very nice, the semmetry and eveness really shows. Takes some practice and patience to achieve. This is a new favorite build style for me and I am excited to experiment.

@WharfRat1976 @LilWhiteClouder i color my coils on mech mods. Mostly on my parallel box, but sometimes on a single battery mech. And these are the kinds of colors I get, unedited;
First stage,

Second stage-

Final stage

I start with one battery in my parallel box, then as the golds turn to the reds, magentas, etc and get more pronounced & hot spots go away, I'll put the second battery in the parallel box & let her rip with like a 2-3 sec fire & it wipes them to all blue & purpley once they're done hot spotting and heat evenly. (the one purple-ish wrap is from pinching while pulsing with ceramic tweezers)

Sweet mother color! Those are some nice hues of blue. Very pretty. I'll be trying your method next build. I wasn't trying for colors on my last build they just happened after pulsing. But man, now I just want to play "color the wires" thanks for sharing Tom! BTW, your coils are amazing. I've been watching your builds for a while.

Quick question, how hard is it to wrap ribbons like that? I have't attempted but I feel like they would twist on me and not allow them to stay on their edges.
edit: I am assuming, of course, those are ribbons in the middle.

First off - thank you, it's cool to hear someone thinks my work is good, I'm always super critical on it.
Secondly, the ribbon cores, once you get the hang of it, are incredibly easy to set up and make. That particular wrap though using .2x.2 square wire for the alien wasn't the easiest to keep consistent.
With ribbon cores it's all about the prep work, cutting equal lengths of ribbon, getting them to stack properly, and stay in the frames. I posted picture of the loop I make when making a staple or framed staple in the coil porn thread I think. It may be in this one I'm not too sure. But the only way ribbons will twist up on you (with my method) is if they're unsecured and have loose tension in the chuck of the drill going into the swivel.

Edit: and on the coloring, I get those colors by scrubbing down the coils with a toothbrush & a dishsoap and water mix, rinsing it off and repeating till they're nice and shiny and clean.

It's a 20 strand Wharf i copied the_vaping_aussie on IG, it was my first attempt and isn't quite as tight a bind as his but it is what it is .. I did it to pretty much see how hard it was and how long it took.
