Are you straightening the wire first?

Yes. But only by pulling it taught and not the drill straightening method. Could that be the cause? Are you straightening the wire first?

I'm trying to make fused claptons. My very first attempt with 26g cores was perfect and twisted like two twists which is way better than the all by hand method I'm used to. All my succeeding attempts were with 28 and 27 gauge and have twisted like I was twisting the wires on purpose... You know, like I'm making twisted wire. I'm talking twisting till it breaks not the slight twists that I'm used to straightening afterwards with my flat pliers--im good with that. Also what coils are you trying to make? i find that fused Clapton wire twists regardless of what i do, but i sort it out at the end with plastic edged pliers.
i straighten all the wire in the drill, but i really think it depends on the gauge of wire you use - the higher gauge thinner wire might be ok to just stretch, but IMO once you start using 26g and under...

Yes. Ball bearing swivels. And I've got 5 currently stringed together. I managed to get 75 % of 28/38 and 26/36 fused Clapton lengths done before the major twisting started today. I just gave the core wire some slack instead of pulling it taut with the drill. Every video I've seen tho looks like they pull it taut. Maybe my swivels just suck. Got em off Amazon.
