gunking is one reason yeh, another reason is i forget to open up my coils or they dont fit in the attys unless they are closed, wick coverage is king.
that simple 3strand braid of 32g i did is about the equivalent of 28g, you'd be able to hit the braid for far longer, its a win win :D if you havent tried it you should, wick it tightish with ... pad is best imo

I'm sorry I'm still not getting why we pinch most of our builds. Like, if that spaced loose braid is so good, then why are the majority of other advanced builds on here pinched nice and tidy?

On a side note and question for you Slippy or whoever can answer: I finally pulled my first "perfect" fused clapton out of my twisted messes rda and popped it on my ohm reader just to store it for the mean time and I noticed that it is reading 0.3 ohms with no coils in there. Is that normal??

hmm you do ask some very good questions :D

i think the idea behind closed wraps is to further enhance flavour plus wicking is made easier without distorting the coil. it was SuperX that kicked off all the closed wrapped coil's, coupled with micro coil's they give a great vape, i used to vape them all the time myself but at lower power than i vape at now, if i vaped a 1/16th id micro-coil at 200+ watts it would give great flavour but i would only be able to take super duper weenie short pull's unless you open the wrap's of the coil to make a spaced coil and you'd be able to take a slightly longer pull but it's still not enough, for me atleast.
i like a vape that hits me in the throat, i used to smoke the big rollups without filters a long time ago so its the only thing that satisfies me, i was sort of happy vaping 1/16 micro's but i was always chasing something more, always going for hotter builds but now i'm at a happy place, no more chasing and vaping mostly on my dual parallel mech mod's at 0.1ohm's & 5mg 50/50 juice.

so jj are you gonna ask me why i vape open coil's next or do you have a better question?

Regards your twisted messes atty, do other attys zero up on the reader?

Thanks for the info on that one slippy, I make it better shot since I have some Japanese something at home I'm normally using rayon although

yeah i also like the rayon but i also like to change my wicks often cus im always mixing flavours, cotton rewick is faster for me, i'm saving the rayon i have left for a zombie attack for when i need that lasting wick lol

I run the snugged up contact coils for wick coverage and vapor density but they do get much easier to keep stable when wicking if they are snugged up.

The larger 3mm coils help too around 80-90 watts at ~.2Ω on my parallel box so yeah its basically wick coverage basically

No. You answered thanks. I really have just been wondering that for awhile. Thanks for answering.

i wonder if pg/vg ratio has something to do with spit back also. what percentage are you guys that get it using?

i swear when i was using more vg i was also getting more spitback  ofcourse it could just be coincidence.... i cant remember when i last had it, i use 50/50.

have you ever noticed how a vape can be more harsh if you dont pull hard.

I order max VG from mister e liquid which they say can be anything from a measly 70-85% VG depending on the flavor. I wish it was more VG. Idk, sometimes I'm afraid to pull hard because I don't want to suck straight juice into my mouth like a straw which I've unintentionally done before [emoji19]

Back to the basics... 24ga nichrome 80, 6/5 wraps on 2.5mm 0.20Ω

Sometimes its good to get back to basics. I get all wrapped up in making fancy coils and builds sometimes but eventually I toss just a simple buid like whatyou have and remember how good they can be with little fuss.

My first go at temp control. Ni200, 13 wraps on 3mm, 26ga wire. A little low at .09, but it's working on my new IPV4. This temp control stuff is the bees knees. I love it. I'm spoiled and can't see going back to kanthal and being as happy.

I have 28 and 30 gauge on the way, and will build again a bit safer and better. This will do for now.

Amen. I went from MX v1, v3, etc. with claptons, zippers, and so on back to a simple microcoil.

I've gone back to a few old orchids and modded them. Rocking 8 wrap 28g and haven't looked back in months.
