Most of the comments so far seem to be concerning the Prodigy with the 801 atomizer. Can someone who has the Prodigy comment on how it works with the 901? I know that Trog has said that the Screwdriver works best with the 901--a little less capacity than the 801 but the 901 gives a better, hotter hit. Do people find this is true also with the Prodigy? And how is the Prodigy with the 510 atomizer?

Chuffer,

In my experience the 901 Cartridge holds about 1/3 the volume of liquid as a standard 801 Cartridge. At the rate 5.0V's will consume liquid... I'd give the nod to the 801 if one of your primary concerns is cart capacity.
Topping off or refilling will be required much less often with the 801.:)

I don't know this for sure because I don't yet have the Prodigy, but if I am not mistaken SD works with 3.X volts, so Prodigy's 5 volts may improve on the hit level of 801. In which case you would get both, the hit and cart capacity. But I just don't know how much does or could Prodigy improve the throat hit on 801. I myself had several 801s from different manufacturers when I started vaping and gave them all up -- I was just not getting any significant hit from them.

I agree Sar. I've had similar experiences with the 801's.... Good flavor and Vapor production but Throat hit? Not so much:(... At least not as much as I'd like. I'm hoping that the Prodigy paired with Steves' new specially built 3 hole atty's ( PureSmoker.com - Your #1 Source For PV's, Parts, & Accessories! ) will be exactly what the Dr. ordered.

i can tell you i dont think t/h will much of problem for you with the prodigy ...plus you can control what you want too with how you vape it, you get different results with different ways of pressing the button and so forth. all i know is that compared to a pen style its a lot better, and ive never used a 901 so i cant really compare the two

I did some testing the other day of all the atomizers, and whoa, the 801 is ridiculous! I coughed for a while, and Daniel and Steve made fun of me. The 801 is certainly not messing around- but the 901... whoa baby. Smooth and the vapor is very warm. It almost feels like I'm doing something good for my throat. :)

I've had mine going for 2 days now and I'm thrilled to have it. By far the best thing to me is the consistency of the hits, every single one is fine (every once in a while you get an extra special one.)

I don't have any of the "problems" I thought I might based on pre-release reading. It doesn't drink juice to a bothersome extreme, it hasn't damaged an atty, I don't have to be careful not to get too big a hit. My technique is to take a normal hit, but release the button a bit before done drawing. Probably a 2 second draw with button (which is depressed on it's journey to mouth.)

I'm using both the supplied batteries and my own 3.7V. The first, I don't know, say dozen, draws on the 3.7 (which charge to 4.2V) are a little harsher than the 3.0, but then they settle down and I can't tell the difference. I plan to keep 6 pairs in rotation (including the 2 supplied) so they'll have a day or two off the charger to settle which should help get to the good stuff sooner.

It gives its best hits, to me, when it's quiet. Too soon to tell, but when it was really gurgling it had a lot in the cup and after I shook that out it was quiet and obviously smoother. I've seen the same thing several more times with the quiet = smooth hit. That's the only time I got a bunch in the cup though.

It looks like any juice at 20mg or more I'll have to cut a little. 10 - 15% reduction seems about right for me. In other words, I normally vape around 20, but with the PV 16-18 is more comfortable. I got some 36mg Virginia though and I'm going to try that straight just because.

I thought I'd have trouble getting used to the button, but having some .... experience in my youth, it just fell into place (the button functions for me exactly like the air hole in a .....)

Wish list:

My second one gets shipped really fast

An adapter for the 201 (if that's even possible)

That's about it (it would have been nice to have the battery end knurled, but not that big a deal.)

Oh, the best thing of all - built in anti-roll control!!

Edit: I guess I should add that I'm exclusively 801.

Hey fjames ... Thanks for the review!

Regarding M201 atty's ... I too love them :D Actually was using an M201 for a while back in the day. The main problem is they pull air through the battery threads. We could likely do it, but placement of the drilled holes within the center and exterior posts seems to be quite difficult ... Definitely something I will see if I can accomplish atleast 1 of down the road when I have time :)

Gurgling is a sign you have flooded the atomizer. Best to do what you're doing and blow it out. If you try to vape it out, you can easily run the atomizer too long and too hot to get a good draw off the device. This can potentially reduce the life expectancy of the atomizer.

My BEST 801 atomizer has always gurgled. Hey, this is the sound of liquid and air interacting.

Is this a consensus opinion?

Hey Ante, regardless the manufacturer I've tried with any atty, when they gurgle, as breakfast sez, blow them out. My experience, it doesn't need to be much of blow-out, like you may do when putting them away for awhile, but the hits improve afterwards markedly

The Gurgling is due to the Atty reservoir being overfilled to the point the the liquid is blocking the free flow of air through the atomizer. If the Gurgling is minor or inconsistant accompanied by decent vapor production... I don't bother blowing out because it is only slightly flooded.

If the Gurgling is constant and noticable with little vapor production... I Do blow it out to avoid overheating of the liquid, strain on the coil and wasted battery capacity.

Yep, a tiny gurgle at the beginning of a draw seems to be the sweet spot for me. If it's making that sound non stop you need to blow it out a bit.

I'm using the carts ( blanks from eastmall ) on my 801 Prodigy and find that if you fill them to the top it's a bit too much as the atomizer bridge really pokes down into the filling and squeezes too much juice out causing a flood. A 2/3 to 3/4 fill on a fresh cart seems to be the sweet spot. It seems I get about 15 really good drags off of a fresh cart before I get a slight burnt taste, 4 to 6 drops to top off seems to get it back to the start point again.

short review,

product works great, meets my expectations and more. good vapor production, long battery life, dripping friendly. i just wish this thing was out about 4 months ago when i started vaping. i'd defenitly recommend this product to others. i'm thinking this'll be the last purchase i make for a while, except for batteries and atomizers.

but, a couple of complaints. ok, right out of the box examining it, there's scratches on the paint job. oh well, it would have gotten scratched up by me eventually, so no biggy. and then at the back where the battery cap screws in the paint is chipped off a little.
oh and the battery cap is a b*tch to get on and off. if i put a little lube on it, it won't screw it up will it?
