That's Ironic.

Because I saw the Complete Opposite about two weeks ago.

I had just been seated with a Friend for a Late Lunch at a Non-Chain Restaurant. Across the room was a pair of Middle Aged Women who's waiter was picking up their Plates.

After the Waiter left, one of them pulled what looked like a Vamo/Clearo out of Her purse and casually took a hit off it. She took a couple of more as they talked and waited for their check. She Wasn't Blowing huge clouds. Or trying to Hide it. Just taking some hits off a Clearo.

As they were talking, the Manager walked up to their table and said "I'm Sorry. But you must not have seen the sign that said there is No e-Cigarette use in the Dinning Room. If you would like, you can move to the Patio?"

The one who was vaping just smiled and said something like, "No, that won't be necessary." And she put her Vamo back in her purse. The Manager said something else that I couldn't hear. But they Both Laughed. And the Manager walked away Smiling.

The Waiter came and gave them their Check. They argued over who was going to pay. The Vaper finally won and put some cash in the Tray. The Water Took it, brought the Change, and the Vaper said that the change was for him. He did do that Thank You when a Waiter gets a Big Tip. The two sat and Talked for about 10 more minutes. Got Up, and left.

No Drama. No Scene. Just Two people having Lunch.

I really like your story.

And your solution is to treat it like they have already passed those laws. Don't vape in public, hide, hang out with the smokers, stand in the cold and the rain.

No thanks.

No need to go to extremes, just inquire if its allowed, its called being polite. There may not be a law but most indoor places have rules. If you can't be bothered with those rules don't go there.

Going into a venue this weekend I was holding my mod in my hand. The security gnome at the door threatened: "if you're seen with that inside you'll be thrown out". They didn't say anything to my smoker friend who was holding a pack of Marbs and lighter

Eah... Just like there are Nice and Polite People in the World. There are Also Rude and Abrupt People also.

It's just that the Rude and Abrupt ones seem to get All the Headlines.

So he politely warned you so you wouldn't be thrown out. I hoped you thanked him.

There was nothing polite about that threat.

Let's assume you are joking.

Assume whatever you want. In this case, your assumption would be wrong.

Given the hostility coming from vapers in threads on this topic, I'm not surprised the general public manifests the same attitude towards vaping. In my book, one must project the attitude he expects from others. So you'll excuse my disinterest in joining the apologist crowd.

I pretty much agree with what that person said in the article. I actually read this yesterday and I have to say I'm not going to go into a small store or something and start blowing phat cloudz or anything. I wait until I get back outside to vape. I don't want to feel like I'm forcing anything on anyone. Especially people that may be allergic to something in the vapor. I vape in my house, outside, at work since I work with all smokers/vapers, and that's it. Everywhere else like the grocery store I wait til I get back outside.
I agree with everything this person says about public vapeing

Well, I don't generally openly vape where smoking is not allowed, but I will take a discreet puff in a pub or coffee lounge, not a restaurant, mainly because I don't want attention or confrontation.
I'm generally a fan of being open about it and admire those who do.
But, I was at a vape meet at the weekend... Now I know to expect a lot of fog there, so that wasn't an issue. But I was sat next to someone 'sub-ohming' some concoction of apple, cinnamon and possibly aniseed, and absolutely hated the smell. Now I'm sure this is just me as regards those aromas, cinnamon and aniseed being probably my most disliked smells and flavours, but my clothes smelled of it all the way home, not very pleasant. (For me, although maybe not for others)
My point is, I'm sure some people would love those aromas, but hate my buttermint, so I can understand where they're coming from. If it had not been a vape meet I would have probably said something. I also have to hope that the vaper would not be doing that in a restaurant, whatever flavour he was using, because the smell and fog permeated the whole room.

She spends most of her time drinking her bathtub. (Claire Lower | xoJane)
How can she smell vapor over the taste of her own bum?

I always stop, smile, and say "thank you for letting me know," when approached by someone my behavior is bothering. Tolerance, respect, and an understanding that I can not control others has help provide me with an environment I can be happy in.

I think it's a veiled threat, she finds disdain for the "ridiculous holsters"(well I don't find your Birkenstocks too attractive either lady! :p ) that has nothing to do with the offense of "bubblegum" or the crazy name of my juice, I'll give you some Unicorn Blood lady, wanna try my juice?? :p whilst she's drinking her no doubt double shot maccichino (sp? I don't want to know how to spell that)

as a motorcycle riding RN, that isn't a stereotype, this kind of thinking frankly scares me, I had a guy pass gas next to me in Luby's yesterday that was noxious...so I'm going to write TIME magazine??calling for legislation??

I'll agree, that we should have manners and be considerate and respectful of others when out and about, I find Birkenstocks offensive but I'll keep it to myself in this watered down politically correct world we find ourselves living in(yanno) I'm not blowing clouds, and I've also NEVER been asked or told "you can't do that in here" I"m sure that time's coming, but then if it does, I'm still going to just go about my vaping in a non obnoxious way anyhow.

Dear Ms. Lower,

I really dislike your attitude and wish to issue a challenge that I'm genuinely interested in putting into action whenever you are game.

You say this water vapor smells terrible. Like how fog smells terrible? Anyway, my challenge would be to have me stand 8 feet behind you in a place of your choosing and I will vape (or not vape) a flavor of my choosing. My position claims you will never ever be able to detect the smell, and hence I strongly believe you are basing your perception of terrible smell on looks alone, or in reality, not on smell at all.

To say vaping indoors around people in enclosed spaces is like eating garlic before boarding a 10 hour flight, is IMO equal to saying all persons who speak or even whisper in public spaces are akin to walking into a local library with a megaphone. Therefore, everyone stop talking in public, because it is rude.

Vaping indoors is, in reality, like literally everything else humans do when out in public. All of what humans do in public could potentially annoy another person, could lead to strange physiological reactions in a small few, and can be done with intent to annoy or be rude. Most vapers, like myself, I believe will vape in public with respect and consideration for those around us. A few vapers will not.

I agree that you are not being completely unreasonable. Just mostly unreasonable, and am glad to instigate my challenge whenever you desire.

Respectfully,
Jman

I agree with most of what you are saying....but...to say vaping is oderless like fog is just silly. I have noticed that having vaped for a few months now that I do not notice the smell, but my wife, who does not vape, sure as hell can. When she she starts walking up the steps to my office she can smell it long before she gets to my office on the opposite end of the house. I have never smelled a vape that I found offensive, in general they smell sweet like somebody is baking something for the most part. I guess I use common sense. I was in an airport bar the other day and I asked the waitress if it was ok to use a vaporizer in there and she yes go ahead. I went to a secluded table and ordered a beer and vaped away. Later a group of women came in and set beside me. I saw one of them look at the PV I had sitting on the table like she knew what it was. They were not vaping, so I just stopped. I thought a a cloud of vaper would be annoying hitting them in the face if they were not vaping.

Man, there sure are a lot of opinions around here and you know what they say about opinions.....................

I can't believe the audacity of some people.

I treat vaping much like I did smoking. I don't vape in indoor public places.

Outdoors - If I'm in a crowd of non-vapers / non-smokers.... I'll politely move off to the side and vape unnoticed.

Just ask yourself what is more important. Sticking to your ideals and in the process pissing off non-vapers who might then in turn take action to further limit our freedom to vape, or swallowing some of your pride by being respectful in public with how you vape to help foster a more positive perception of vapers so that we possibly may be able to preserve some of the freedom that we already enjoy. The decision is yours IMO.
