Tipping won't do anything because it draws juice from the bottom. There are apparently wicks down the center tube which draws juice up to the top. ...

It does make a difference for me, though - at least it seems to. Perhaps the liquid actually gets inside the tube.

3. The PV should have a vent hole at the bottom, away from your face. Not sure on the Rocket, mines in the mail.

The Rocket has 2 vent holes! They're so tiny that I don't know why they even bothered putting them there though. The body is actually 2 pieces of plastic the clip together and in the event of a battery failure I'm sure they'd outgas more out the side seams then actually out the bottom vent holes. Also the connector it not sealed air tight so some venting would occur there, and around the buttons as well.

These are the batteries that came with it (sorry for the fuzzy, phone pic). They say JFC18350 900mAh 3.7 V

They do not say IMR. they don't say protected. I sure hope they are! There are two vent holes in the bottom.

Bad said they were protected....does that equate to IMR??

I knew I read to use protected somewhere. No, the IMR type batteries are not protected but are supposed to be safer in VV devices. I use IMR in all my VV PV's. I'm not sure if them being stacked makes a difference but I use IMR's in my V8 which also uses two 18350's in series.

When they talk about "protected" batteries, they are talking about Lithium-Ion with - the protection is against shorts, I believe?

IMR are what they call a "safer chemistry" battery, so supposedly they don't need protection. They don't - can't, chemically - outgas explosively. However, if abused/overheated/shorted out/whatever, they put out a huge amount of heat and current all at once, which is no picnic either, I'd imagine.

SteelJan has a video on it. She actually concluded that protected Li-Ion batteries are safer. YMMV I use AW IMRs.

The Rocket itself has protection circuitry builtin, not the batteries. And as already mentioned, the supplied batteries are not IMRs.

Lots of electronic APVs have protection circuitry, and we are still supposed to use protected batteries in them. I'm still not clear as to whether or not the batts that come with the Rocket are protected. As I understand it, the warranty from the manufacturer would be voided if the user puts in different batteries? So if they are not protected, we can't use our own better batteries (either protected or IMRs) without voiding the warranty?

If that is so, there really needs to be a chat with the manufacturer.

Is there something special about these particular batteries, or are they simply trying to protect themselves against people using el-cheapo bad batteries and blowing their devices, and possibly themselves, up? I can see it being either or here, and it's not unreasonable either way, but as a user, I'd prefer more control over the quality of the batteries I use. It's hardly clear right now, and if they are not protected, that's not good, imho. Maybe the warranty part needs to be re-written a bit, saying that protected, say, batteries could be used, or specific brand batteries could be used, etc.

Those are protected. See the ridge at the top. Thats the PCB. The battery and the PCB are incased in the outer wrapper.
