We'd love to get soem good feedback on this version of the Cryptonite and maybe give it another shot at the main line...

At these prices... I think you need to get a bunch more for us to test out before you put it in the main line... all for the sake of testing it thoroughly and to help maintain the reputation of GV of course... :D

Okay, since I'm usually the first one to get their hands on the new items (thanks to GV shipping and early mail delivery times here plus Eastern Standard time) here's what's going on.

Initially, I was not expecting it to arrive today. I have never seen the USPS tracking site skip Atlanta completely, but it did this time. I was notified literally 5 minutes before the mail ran that it was in my town. I was like :headbang: :rickroll:

Then, I saw there was one single box in there when I ordered 2 units. I was like  :(

I opened the box and realized there's 2 in a box and I was like

I saw this strange metal piece loose in the bubble wrap that contained the c8 and I was like

I tried to figure out where it fit on the c8 until I remembered I'd ordered an 808 to 510 adapter and I literally

Okay, enough silliness. The first c8 is filled with 80pg/20vg green apple and screwed onto the zongle. The second is filled up with a 0 nic juice of the same pg/vg ratio that I don't care too much about losing and is sitting in a bottle cap to see if it dumps. That way, I can maybe save the juice because I hate to waste even if I don't care about the juice much.

I watched LD's video about the c8 C8 (Cryptonite) Review - YouTube I didn't and still don't know if the filling rules apply since this is another version, but I just went with it. First off, I probably made a c8 faux pas. I took the top plug with the little prongs out and set it aside while I filled the c8 up, turned upside down and filled it up to the top with no bubble. While I was filling it, juice was dripping out into my hand from the other hole. When I filled the second one, I left one of the prongs from the plug in the hole while I filled through the other. That's the one that's sitting in the cap, by the way.

First impression: nice, hot vape. The unit gets quite hot with semi chain vaping, but that's not really a common thing for me to do. No dumping from the active unit. It doesn't like 4.2 volts, so I've backed off to 3.8. It's a tighter draw than I usually like. It was kinda hard to get the threading to catch on the zongle, but that's far from a big deal. Just noteworthy. I like the whistle tip, surprisingly. It's more comfortable than I was expecting. It's also a tight fit, but that's a good thing with tips as far as I'm concerned. It's a very sexy little unit, I love the way it looks.

Not a lot of vapor, flavor is quite good. It's comparable to the Phoenix in terms of flavor, falls dismally short in terms of vapor production but the Phoenix is beyond awesome in that regard. So, I guess the vapor production is average or a bit above. The throat hit is the best I've ever had from any carto/tank. I absolutely LOVE it for TH. I mean, holy heck. I haven't coughed from vaping ever in the history of the world.

Note that a lot of this may change as it breaks in. I have no idea how long it takes to break one in properly. Also, the one that's sitting to the side has absorbed maybe a quarter milliliter of juice and seems to have stopped. Not too bad, that's a good bit of wick absorption for a bottom coil (I think).

The dump test started at 12:05 pm est, I'll check it every hour to see what it's doing. So far, no leaks. If it hasn't dumped by around 5 or whenever I remember, I'll put it on its side and see what happens.

Happy vaping!

Edit: Soon as I submitted this, I started getting dry hits at 3.8, knocked it down to 3.0 (blue) which is the end of the line. Got some gurgling, too. LD says to blow into it to clear it out, didn't really work but I'm afraid of blowing juice through it like the Phoenix. Any thoughts? No flooding at the connector.

Ick, never mind the flavor part of that. Eww. Dry hit city. Primer puffs are doing almost nothing. No bubbles rising, gurgle is gone. What the heck happened??!!

Okay, I vape it ....-up and it's doing better. I thought this was a bottom coil?

Edit: ...and now that's not doing it. Okay, enough play-by-play. Gonna do some research and give it some time.

I look forward to hearing from the rest of you! I'll probably wind up having to mod this somehow.

You can blow out the C8, take it off your dongle if you're worried about juice coming out.

On the last version of C8, I found I started getting dry hits after too much vacuum built up in it. I would remove the plug and let some of the vacuum out, or do some primer puffs. This seemed to get a little better after it broke in.

Version 2 of C8 also used to drip on me when I filled it. Never thought to leave the plug half-in. Duh.

Oh also, I seem to remember you're supposed to allow a full tank to break in, but mine seem to get even better with age...

Wow, taking the plug out and putting it back in made a huge difference. Thank you! That's quite the flaw, though. I wonder if there's a mod to regulate the pressure better.

A full tank break in seems to be standard practice. Thanks!

tina already covered it... so this is just a confirmation post sort of...

I only tried the v1 C8.... It did take about a tank before it was broken in and vaping good. The juice dumps were all over the place time-wise... Sometimes it wouldn't dump at all... sometimes it took setting all night before a dump was noticed and other times it would dump within a hour or so...

The reports from others also showed the same intermittant results where some people had no issue at all, some always got dumps and some were just intermittant dumps. Mine started out without much of an issue and over a week or two got worse. Not having much budget to test with, I only had the one unit ( still do for that matter )

Someone in this thread already mentioned that sitting it on it's side seemed to help it... I didn't notice this myself but others also reported it worked for them as well.

I find that covering 1 air hole on the draw helps prime the wick & reduce dry hits, and that covering both air holes and blowing into the mouthpiece helps equalize the pressure differential.

HTH!

The C8 doesn't vent through the bottom. There are 2 air holes in the sides of the bottom 'skirt' located in the little groove.

Thank you for the tips!

This thing is kind of a nightmare. I had to put it down so I could actually get some nicotine. Maybe if I cover the air hole as suggested, it'll work better. Once I vape most of the juice, I'll look up some mods. So far, mine are duds.

Oh, that is too bad! My first one is vaping perfectly on the first fill! But I have had a dud before...

I discovered something on my rocket this morning. I set it to 3.5v as usual but it kept resetting to 3.0 when firing then turning off. I saw some other people had mentioned a similar problem as well. I checked my batts and they both read good. I decided for the heck of it to toss my dct tank on my provari and see what it read on the ohms. Aha! My 3.0ohm carto was reading 1.5ohm! I replaced the carto and the rocket is back in service.

Got my Red Rocket today.
1st impression. HOLY COW ... my ProVari is a well made tank.
The Rocket sure is pretty. Wish it worked.

Charged the batteries. tried every type of carto and tank I have with and without extensions. None would fire.
I noticed the cartridge socket is set so deep I doubted that they were seating properly if at all. I had to file the plastic housing and some of the metal socket just so a cart had a chance of making contact.
Tried all my ammo again and still no fire. The display says 3.0 no matter what I do. Whatever voltage it is set at, when you push the button it goes back to 3.0. But that does not matter because it won't power a cart anyway.

I am afraid it is DOA.
A bit disappointing to say the least. I was hoping to at least put it through some paces but all I have is a pretty red paperweight. Oh well. That's life.

Anyone else have a DOA out of the box or did I just get lucky?

Wally if that unit is absolutely DOA and you have fiddled with it the best you can, send it back to me and I will get another sent out to you...send it back to the return address on your envelope.

Just a note that we can't do that for everything that goes out in ALPHA as we have limited supplies by definitiion, in ALPHA, but this was a higher ticket item relatively than other ALPHA products and we have a few more left in stock. Wally just send back the unit and battery (pls remove battery from unit when you send it).
