Are you applying only forVA jobs?

No, I mean, I'm not. Technically. I mean, I guess one would say I am applying for "certain government agency jobs." The army really wants social workers and I have been recruited SO many times but that is just.... Nah, that is a bit too structured for me. I have known way too many "active duty" folks, and like, when they are all "Rah rah go go kill DV at home" and I KNOW LOTS OF active duty families and ran into a bunch (infrequently) in that job, we just stare at each other and the mom is like sitting up ramrod straight and I'm like, "So how you feeling about like, um, farming the kids out to relatives while you go to Baghdad and your husband goes to stop the White House being rioted," (or whatever) and they look at me and go, "This chick is such a twit we don't discuss FEELINGS near the children" and they go, "Oh we are used to it," and I go "And yes, and I am SO GLAD you are."

I'm not saying Army families can't be awesome, functional, wonderful and whatever, I am sure many (generational lots) of them are but a lot of them are STRESSED OUT and beating the kids and I don't like to admit anything but "Oh it's great" but either way... I go, "Great then, here's my card if there's never something I can do, please don't call me and if it would make you feel good well, um, here's a lighter for the teenager sitting next to you to set it on fire RIGHT now, maybe it will stave off.... never mind, and yes, my name is Franciscia Williams and I do NOT work in behavioral health here."

So no. Essentially VA or like IHS and maybe health and human services if I want to bore myself to death. I think it will probably wind up being the first job and really, it's not the end of the world either way, but it's probably smart to have an option or two and keep applying other places as they arise because WHO knows. I won't ever say yes if there is not a 80--90% chance I would seriously take it, and I'm not necessarily predicating the first one on a raise either. It's doable.

Trust me, as long as I do not accept two offer letters from the same AGENCY, they aren't organized enough to oh, keep a database of who has accepted you know, what. They can barely keep some services afloat. I mean.... Like I said, it's good to know I have options and I guess I will be slightly seriouser about the Monday interview.

Good knows per the husband we may not have a government soon. Just the eggs in one basket thing.

NO active duty military positions I have NO CLUE and the moms all hate me. Just like I hate man pushups. I went on a post or barrack or whatever it is one time because they had a charter school I wondered about and not only did I (and the kid) hate it I was a little sketched out. Like, ONE place wanted me to go do that in GERMANY although to be fair an army base is probably A BIT more pleasant than say, GERMANY.

I made biscuits and dry-burned and rewicked two tanks. Today I plan on detailing my car inside and out.

Dang, this early in the AM, surprised you didn't dry burn the biscuits!

 My cat wakes me up at 5 am every day...pandemic be damned...she doesn’t care. I did stay in bed until six though but her constant meowing starts getting to me. So this is mid morning to me. I do go to bed early though. That saying the early bird gets the worm...my aunt used to say, “but I don’t like worms”. Eh...it’ll be easy to transition going back to work since my hours haven’t changed. :glare:

Could you stop by and do mine? The leather is easy to clean but the floor mats are filthy.
Mine is pretty dirty and I dread it.

I just noticed my Zeus bubble glass has been in my mailbox a couple of days. Glass doesn’t excite me as far as vape mail goes. :|

Ok,then. Is there a reason for applying for all gov. Jobs?

Yes. I am doing the same job (and usually less of it, actually) for better pay and benefits. Also, by the time you hit "government" jobs you are like, in it for a "career" like the rest of your life and you get certain retirement benefits that you don't get in the private sector.

Also, it has been my observation in government jobs I have had (not in healthcare exactly) like people don't get up in your grill and there is a clear supervision chain and I plan to get up in that person's good area (I will assess it quickly) and get them to love me from day one, and stay where I am and not be bored, but happy in a job for the rest of my life.

That was what THIS job was supposed to be but you know, well, stuff happens. I'm almost not sorry not after seeing how they handled COVID (and how my healthcare did) and whatnot.

I will probably wind up in the WV job, I have a feeling that is what is going to happen, and like I said, if I got an offer elsewhere it would take a LOT for me to take it. It is in fact accurate that SOME VA jobs in poorer areas have less negotiating room than others and it's not like I couldn't achieve grade ten in about 6 years so as a long term strategy it all works out in the end.

That is my reasoning and I am sticking to it.

    Somewhere between here and there
This post is going to earn me much hate and discontent. But Stols, please, why don't you create your very own thread, call it 'My intense Life' or some such, instead of hijacking Random DIY with content that has nothing to do with diy. I feel badly that you are going through such a rough patch, we all do. I can only speak for myself, but I sense many here would rather see discussion about diy on a diy thread, yes? Were you to create your own thread, something tells me it would be highly viewed and active. What do you say?

Well, the title does say “and more”. I really don’t mind Anna’s posts. I often discuss work or what’s going on in my life. I don’t see the harm in it. I don’t know many threads on Ecf that stay on topic for very long. Besides, it’s Fran’s thread and whatever she says goes as long as it’s within the rules.
