My first attempt at Grapefruit & Gin on the Rocks turned out well. That VTA Botanical Gin is good stuff!

Grapefruit & Gin on the Rocks
Botanical Gin (VTA) 4%
Grapefruit (FA) 2%
Ruby Red Grapefruit (Natural) (FW) 2.5%
Soda Base (SC) (Real Flavors) 2%
White Grapefruit (INAWERA) .25%
WS-23 30% .5% to .75%

I used FA Grapefruit here since it is at its best not mixed with a lot of different flavors. This recipe would be good, IMO, with just the FA Grapefruit and the INW, leaving out the Ruby Red. Maybe not as luscious, but good I think.

I liked the Fizzy Sea Breeze with VTA Russian Vodka at 5% so much that I made up 60mls of it. Another very tasty juice, to me.
Just have to wait for my Chef’s order to arrive :). For once , I think I have EVERYthing in the recipe. That looks yummy

I don’t really have any experience at all mixing tobaccos. Not even really sure I’ll like them but want to give them a fair chance. If you don’t mind, how’s this look? I considered omitting vanilla bean & marshmallow and adding either Gremlin Vanilla Overload at 3-4% or Hangsen’s French Vanilla Ice Cream at 1.5-2%. Thoughts?

    Sweet Desert Ship

    Caramel Toffee (Hangsen) 1.5%
    Desert Ship (Hangsen) 5%
    Marshmallow (CAP) 2%
    Nut Mix (FA) 1%
    Vanilla Bean (Flavorah) .5%

    (Mostly sub-ohm super tank vaping.)
This is strictly anecdotal, and I offer it only as my own tobacco experience:
When I first started vaping (2012), a tobacco flavor made sense to me, so I tried a couple of house-label e-liquids my local B&M shop sold. I was expecting them to taste similar to a burning cigarette... and they tasted nothing like that to me. To make matters worse, even though I found nothing "tobacco like" about them; they were the one flavor group that actually made me jones for a cigarette!

Needless to say, I wrote tobacco vapes off as "not for me," very early. Now fast forward to last year.

I was getting burnt out on fruits, and mints. I just couldn't manage to dial in the few bakeries I tried. Custards and cheesecakes just didn't work. And, I didn't have a clue what I wanted to mix.

I had been following Danny's tobacco thread (as I follow all DIY threads); and some of the descriptions gave me the hankering to give them another go.So, I chose a few, that sounded like they might work for me, and gave them a shot.

I don't know, if it was due to my changing taste buds, or enough time passing to allow me to forget what an actual cigarette really tastes like. But, I found I now enjoyed some tobacco flavors. They still taste nothing like burning tobacco to me. Rather, I find the flavor to be more reminiscent of the aroma of fresh/un-burned tobacco. Also, they no longer seemed to make me crave the real thing.:thumb:

Cigarette-styled tobacco concentrates tend to remind be of the way a freshly opened pack of smokes smelled. Pipe-styled tobacco concentrates remind me more of wicking my nose into a pipe tobacco pouch (more aromatic). I have yet to find a cigar-type that makes me think "this is cigar," but I keep trying.

I share all that, @NatashaTMT, only so you know what tobaccos taste like, to me. You, and/or others, may have totally different experiences using tobacco. Maybe, it will give you yet another way to evaluate tobacco vapes, as you decide whether tobaccos might be for you, or not.:)

All that as my starting point; as I look at your recipe, these I my thoughts. Please keep in mind, I have not tried the mix, so I am strictly shooting from the hip (guessing:facepalm:).

I had the opposite idea of dobroeutro; and would suggest lowering the HS Desert Ship. I am vaping it, as a stand-alone flavor, as I type this out. And, at only 3.5%, in a single coil tight drawing MTL tank, I find it flavorful, but maybe a smidge weak. I think 4% might be ideal for my current set-up.

Because you are sub-ohming; I am not sure you would need to go that high. Hangsen tobaccos tend to be pretty potent (based on what I have been able to read). 3-4% looks like the "normal(?)" range as a single flavor. Of course, I don't have any idea how the other flavors, of your proposed recipe, may "sit" on the tobacco. It doesn't look outrageous to me; maybe just a little high.

I am not sure about the marshmallow in a tobacco recipe. But, just because I haven't heard of it, or tried it; doesn't mean it can't work.:) Be sure to share your findings!:D

The rest of it looks good; let us know how it works out!

I was wondering....can this be made without the Gin?

I mean, I know it can be but how do you think it would taste and if you would do the % differently?

    :)

I think it would be delicious without the gin. I wouldn't change any of the percentages.

I'm trying to check out with Chef's and I cannot find where to input the coupon code.

You put it in before you start the checkout process.

I've played around with tobacco flavors for a couple of years and like everyone else I don't get the "cigarette flavor" I was used to with cigarettes. As time passes I really don't care that much for recreating that taste and have begun to appreciate DIY flavors for what they are.

FA Cuban Supreme is the closest to a real cigar flavor that I've found, but as you said it's like sniffing the cigar and enjoying the aroma of an unlit cigar more than it's like smoking one. In the past when I wanted to experience the smoky exhale I used FA Black Fire flavor in 1/2% strength in my tobacco mixes. FA Black Fire for me is another addition for recreating the cigarette exhale. It gets strong really quick, so 1/2% is the most I'll ever add to a mix. Tobacco Absolute also works, but I think I like FA Black Fire even more.

Right now I'm vaping some newly mixed tobacco flavors. Cuban Supreme mixed at 2.5% is in my tank, but it's only 2 days out from a DIY session and I'm testing small amounts. Sometimes, I just can't wait to try them so I do 50ml batches. ;)

When I see you posting recipes, I already know they’re gonna be good before I even mix them:p I feel like we’ve already discussed this but have you tried FA’s gin and if so did you like &/or what percentage would you use, 2?

Thank you! I always make a lot of tweaks after the first mix to try and get it just right before I share a recipe. That is why my ELR recipes are all private. :D FA Gin is very juniper heavy. It is good though, just not as good as the VTA Botanical but it is all a matter of what someone likes. If I made this with FA Gin, I would start at 1.5% and move up to 2% if the juniper suits you.

This actually is quite helpful! I was thinking more along the lines of burnt or “smoking” tobacco flavors. This is the main reason I haven’t wanted to try them. That just didn’t appeal to me. Even when I was young, I remember enjoying that sweet smell of fresh pipe tobacco the men hanging out at the corner store were always fiddling around with. Your input has really given me more of an open mind concerned tobaccos. Thank you @IDJoel :) You’re always so helpful! Not to say that marshmallow is a bad call but if I wanted to sub it with another in one of the mixes, would you have a suggestion like perhaps a cream? Or simply drop it altogether?

Looks like I’ll have to add it to my purchase list. I certainly understand you keeping your recipes private! I didn’t understand exactly why that was a good idea in the beginning and figured someone else could learn from my mistakes. Turns out, no one’s really looking for lessons in the recipes lists but actually want something good to mix:facepalm::laugh: All good though! Thanks for this bit of helpful advice!

I should probably go in and make the good ones public as I do have some that are different from anything I see there. IDK I will think about it. I share the best ones here anyway. :)

You’re on ATF, right? I joined about a month ago but haven’t yet had time to import my flavors over yet. Soon, very soon!
