I'm pretty intense about it. I leave the nutrition to the nutritionists, although sometimes we just.... OMG we had this kid who ate fast food for EVERY meal. He couldn't remember the last time he ate lettuce. So he agreed to eat some before very meal. I think returned and lost 17 lbs in a month? I mean, it slowed down, but.....Me and the nutritionist met with him for months. He did awesome.
Type II Diabetes is not fun.
I suppose to be fair, my parents encouraged us to be active and to eat in a European fashion. My dad made us a salad before dinner every day of our lives. We had to east ita.
The Depakote thing...; God, that med is just depressing. It kind of turned me into this Stopford wife. Apart from walking the dogs I think cleaning was my only exercise I was not allowed to NOT take it, because I was on a MH plan..
The husband was sweet about it, he dragged me to buy clothes at Target (I still have them in a big bin) after inquiring why I was wearing the same 2 pants every day and I was like, "Um they are what fit." It was kinda motivating actually.. I was like, "This guy is too nice I need lo lose some weight." It was hard, but when I finally got rid of that drug, I was so happy. It's not as bad as prednisone but it's close.
Finding some exercise you really like is key IMHO. Whatever it is. If I had to go to the gym every day to exercise I would not be happy.... But for some people they love it, etc. The best shape I ever was in was fixing the house and packing... But I knew it wasn't gonna last because there was NO WAY I was going to continue stuff like poring concrete the rest of my life for 6 hours a day OMG.
I agree there can be mental blocks to weight loss and that is what your friendly therapist is for. But getting into that? Oy.
I was not an overweight alcoholic but I don't think I was all that healthy either
