Help! Does anyone know why my wicks look so nasty? It's a kayfun v5 clone wicked with KU.

Sitting down, facing forward.
I'm not an expert, but it looks like too little wick in the coils. What is making them dark is "back feeding", feeding from the wick down onto the well. As far as them looking "nasty" as long as the flavor is good and vapor output is good it's not really a big deal other than the esthetics of it.

Too low a power setting?
Very sweet flavor?
IOW, what are you putting through it, and how?
I am using low power 24 watts on a 28*2 + 32g Clapton .69 ohms. The juice is HIC's Chinese Fortune Cookie 70vg/30pg no it's not overly sweet.

It's snug through the coil @JeremyR said that with KU you don't need as much density as Sally's. How can I fix it? It's vaping fine & vapor production is fine too. But sure does look like something's wrong.

I'd say wait for a critique from Jeremey, he's "da man". I haven't used KU but I'd still want to see some kind of "shoulder" at the coil, but again, wait for Jeremy. Another source of dark liquids like that can be simply condensation running down from the inside of the chimney. it doesn't look like the wicks are in contact with the well/chimney walls but that condensation could be doing it.

If its working fine, remember the old saying "if it aint broke, don't fix it".

I kinda had more shoulders I cut them off, thinking of what @JeremyR posted about an unbalanced wick or too much density causing the darkening. Oops?:|

Did you mix juices by any chance? my coil/cotton have turned some gnarly colors when i mixed without cleaning or changing wicks.
Unfortunately no :( it's a diy juice but it's Hic's recipes from that other place ECF won't let me say where. He uses primarily FlavourArt's from Italy with pretty low %.

I had to retire my black merlin cause i noticed inside the chimney the paint is actually coming off. Not sure if it was from it getting too hot from the coil, or from washing it. Never happened to any of my other black RTA's though. I didn't take any chances with the velocity clone i just ordered and went with stainless steel.

Gonna go look now, be right back.
The chimney is fine it's just the wick & coil, I pulled the tails out & they're not black like the top, it's not Snow White but looks ok. I also upped the wattage as @DavidOck asked if the watts were too low. I'm at 29.5 watts now.

Oh poo that's not good. It's a shame, I like my Merlin a lot. I got a velocity v2 clone & of course I got black.
