Oh poo that's not good. It's a shame, I like my Merlin a lot. I got a velocity v2 clone & of course I got black.

Like i said earlier i LOVE the merlin drip tip! using it now on my smok tf-rdta. Merlin was great for a MTL, but personally i liked the original wotofo serpent better. Even with the airflow restrictor out, i felt like i got a smoother draw from the serpent.

Oh good your back! All jokes aside i wouldn't worry. I'm no expert by any means but like others have said it's probably too low of a wattage and the juice carmelizing (spelling?). Chinese fortune cookie just sounds like it would turn a coil/wick black!
Thanks for the laughter! You're too funny! Where's @JeremyR? He'll probably know for sure. In the meantime I got you to forget about the possible fungi!

LOL yea. The only reason i brought that up was i was reading on another forum about some guy who kept getting a lung infection and when it would go away, he would vape again and the infection would keep coming back. lol turned out he never cleaned out his tanks and that was the cause of it.

Love the Merlin drip tip too! At least it's not a total loss, you got to keep using the drip tip. I love my Wotofo Serpent! Use it every night, it's my nighttime vape with Hic's Lemon Meringue Pie.

Sitting down, facing forward.
Think about it, to produce the vapor the temperatures are in the vicinity of 400F or higher. That'll kill just about anything, mold, fungus or whatever. Unfortunately, it can also produce some "undesirable" chemical combinations.

That KF5 is suffering from unvaporized contaminants. If the wick it touching any side in the chamber it will pull those darker juice remnants back into the wick. I would suggest to trim about 50-75% of the shoulders down and drop the rest (tails) in the juice ports. Kinda like a mullet. Short on top and long in the bottom.

I have the same exact thing with my Heracles RTA 2 and one side of the wick is touching the chamber causing only one side of it to darken.

Not much you can really do with that much coil/wick in the chamber.

I agree with this assessment. One rule in wicking with rayon is that as far as the tails are concerned, less is more, and it appears you have quite thick tails on there.

I always check my wicks after vaping a few mls and if any of the wick is touching the chamber I'll get a dark streak coming off the coil and down the tail. I trim off the dark area and it's good to go.

Where are the shoulders exactly?

The shoulders are the spot where the coil ends and the wick begins. When trimming you should leave a bit of the shoulders to make sure the wick stays in contact with the end of the coil and start trimming from there down. I trim mine at an angle down to the tip of the tails.

Here's a terrible visual on how I trim my wick tails.

How much of an angle? The 50-75% that @atroph mention is good right?
