Sitting down, facing forward.
Troll, you inspired me.

I had bought an FEV V3 a few months ago and wasn't really in love with it. Vapor and flavor just seemed kind of anemic. I recently, last weekend, ordered an Aromamizer that has become a victim of the great abyss of the USPS. So today I decided to re-build the FEV.

I had a pre-built coil laying on my desk that came with my ErlK, from last summer. It looks like 26 gauge kanthal, about 2.5mm inside diameter with seven or eight wraps (never really bothered to check). Anyhow, it came in at .46 ohms after being mounted. I wicked it with rayon and trimmed the tail even with the inside of the chamber, wet the wick, put some liquid in the tank and put it together.

Man! What a difference. Great flavor and vapor. I'm running it at 25 watts on an IPV2 at the moment. Next build will be with either titanium or nickel and go on the DNA200. Very impressive for a single coil device, to say the least.

Jeremy, thanks for pointing me to this one. I love the all stainless construction, and yes I have the plastic tank as well. Being a klutz having something that's solid metal is a good think.

Most Excellent!

The FeV V3 is always a daily carry for me, glass tank kit and all. It is just so easy to deal with... Flip it over and unscrew the tank, literally pour juice in directly from the bottle, reattach the tank, flip and vape. The glass kit from Focal is very nice and does come with a spare glass. I still run Kanthal in mine at 25W mostly on the iPV 2S with a 26g build around 1.1 ohms. I wasn't paying attention one day and put 8 wraps instead of 6 on the mandrel, so I mounted it anyway and liked the vape it produced with some MaxVG juice.

The coil is really wet. Normally I consider that a good thing for a powerful vape.. But it is noisy.

Low power and a looser Wick can cause excess popping. Popping is really the juice flash boiling to vaporization. A layer of juice surrounds the coil and vapor burst through it.

Reducing the juice flow can help also. Add some Rayon by the juice ports. To reduce the flow maybe.

Thanks, I do know my wick is not loose. lol

That kind of makes me think that with this tank maybe I shouldn't thin the tails.
im using stmini rba w/dremmelled out juice channels., i get some popping but only that i can hear not my wife.
def thin out the tails but get it a little thicker in the coil

My builds are 23mm dripper decks. The difference between you and us two is the power level.

Just cut at an angle so the wick sits nicely in there. Shaped to the chamber. The Wick is short so you may not need much thinning. It doesn't take a sharp bend really like a dripper.

It really is on a case by case basis, I'd hate for you to rewick again right now. Try adding some to the wells. As long as your not loose in the coil.

You can always go full Wick and see what the Tails show, if they show draw back cut a little off the Tails density as you go.

using someone elses pic to demonstrate my wicking on the stmini rba v1
cut along the red lines, tails to just touch top of deck where weep holes are

The new version of the ST Mini has the huge juice holes in the barrel with no channels so to speak. I think I will add some by those holes. I do think it is getting too much juice. If I turn it up high enough to stop the popping, it is just too hot for me. The popping stops but I really get a sizzle. Still no bad taste though.

You probably want the Wick right up to the holes.

You can trim the tail with just a slight fade.

Heres a kayfun example. Cut at the black line or black and yellow lines. The angle of black line can be 90°, and if your holding the Wick down it will actually come out at and angle and you have effectively thinned the tails some as well.

Heres a recent pic from atroph, looking at the top of the photo you can see when its all wet its cut to fit perfectly in the chamber. . No excess bunching. One main point is you don't want bunching.

Those both look like ST build decks. Can tell by the coil/screw design. I don't think that any KF has that type of capture rig on their build deck.

Anyways I have the ST mini V1 and it gets "popping" when it is super saturated. After that it calms down after the first part of the pull. Same for my KFv4.

As for the ST mini V2 I'd maybe suggest piping the wick through the hole, through the coil, and out the other side. Snip flush with the barrel and then gently push into the barrel so that it doesn't protrude on the outside. Similar to the way the OCC coils are (at least for the original horizontal ones. I am not sure how tail trimming can be done and eliminate flooding or super-saturation. I saw that there was mention of the "pancake" method in a ST v2, but IMO if you are using a thinner juice you may have a tendency to flood. I haven't drilled my V1 out as it seems to be vaping just fine for me. I did however slightly enlarge the ports at the bottom of the deck with a rounded dremel bit as it didn't flow very well for me with a 20/80 PG/VG mix. I have since added 10% DW to my DIY juices and it seems to have helped a lot without resorting to adding more PG.

Yeah taking the Wick into the holes like a tiafun could be good Im just not sure if it was possible with the atty.

And yeah that's right i guess they were St's, it has a kayfun style deck it looks like anyway. I dont have any kayfun style atties. The decks all look similar so I group em. Lol

Thicker Tails usually slow wicking, so you can go thick to the point that they start to draw back juice and darken, then remove just a little more material.
