Here's the video. He starts putting it through the coil at around 6:03.

I assume the comments for this video were disabled for a reason. Along with it being an old (2014) video and he's wicking it like cotton so he's in for a lot of spitting, metallic breakin taste that might not go away and probably burning the rayon thats in the middle of that contact coil. He should have been blasted with thats the wrong way to wick rayon in his comments but we will never know. Go ahead and wick rayon like he does in the video and see for yourself why loose wicked rayon doesn't fly very well.

Sitting down, facing forward.
Do you get the squeak?

My ears are shot so the chances of me actually hearing the squeak is pretty low. I can feel it through my fingers and it is really there and a good sign that the density is correct.

Again, start with more than you ever think you'd need and reduce it down, a little at a time, until the density is right. It's easier to remove a little than to add it and get it to feed through the coil properly.

He is my bud and knows now that he was wicking too thin. He tried it again recently and liked it. But yeah, he and I don't need to wick as tight as most people here due to fresh juice on demand. Still tighter than cotton, though.

Hmm...well the next time I rewick, I'll attempt to use less density...not to the extent that guy uses. But I'm not sure how I'll determine to use less than my current density.

Use a diagnostic sequence to Learn.

Before you change anything always check the density in the coil by pushing down on the wick at the edge if a gap remains its too loose. Always check the coloring of the wick.

Fact, the lower power your running the less density in the coil will be noticed. If you have no break in muting it's too loose for above 20w, some muting is good for first 10 hits. The longer the muting remains the more over tight you went. If it clears after a while your Ok.

My second video in the op you can clearly hear the squeak noise, it's mostly by feel though.

Very rarely I see other YouTubes wicking rayon correctly.

If you think it's too tight in the coil you can pick pieces out each side to reduce it some.

Once you get it, it's a set it and forget it thing, the build will last and last... I re-wick maybe every 2 months.

I think I've had my first real success wicking with rayon. I've had this EC Blends RY4 steeping for a month and thought it might be time to try it out. So I put some fresh rayon in the coil, made sure it was tight, saturated the rayon, pushed down on the wick and there was no space between it and the coil, cut the tails about 50%, stuck them in the juice wells, filled the Merlin RTA about 60% and got immediate flavor.

That's great, you just got to get a feel for working with it and how it responds. Takes a little time, but the rewards are great.

If it continues to work well for you leave it alone and vape on! Don't change it until you have to.

Like awesome mentioned it will reduce down a little initially. It is standard practice to check the density after a day or two when the wick is fully broke in, or anytime you have a problem. Check for a gap that remains at the edge showing its not dense enough. Also make note of any wick dis-coloring.

I think your past the initial learning curve.

I know this is a thread for rayon. I'm asking this question in several places to see if I can find exactly what I'm looking for. Do you know if they sell the same type of cotton that's the aware pads , with "skin" on it in large sizes or on a roll? A stock coil I took apart had a very long, thin piece of cotton skin as the wick and I'd like to rebuild it. Thanks!

Should I dry burn the wick then check the color and density?

You'd have better luck with pons, pads are no good. Not sure what your looking for, sounds like matt or batting.

Sorry, should've posted a pic. Looks like this. And came off of a Hohm skillet coil

You'll have to put at least a couple mls through it before anything will show up.. Just vape it... I do test fire a new wick a few times after it's fully saturated and wet just to start the break in.

A typical loose wick will vape great at first, but a couple hours later will start to dry hit cause the rayon has come together and reduced in density because you no longer have the springy-ness of the dry fibers and also The wet, lubricated fibers work themselves tighter together.

You'll know by today. Typically if you make it past the first day without problems it was a pretty decent wick.

And if it still looks the same after a week your golden..

Oh a diaper as we used to call it. Lol

What your looking for is kleenex paper towels the really thick soft ones. Work great just don't let it dry up. I actually tried it before I got to rayon. It was my idea and posted it in the forum bout 4years ago, That's as close as I can get you.

Otherwise toss that idea and use something else like rayon. We did find a source of rayon wipes but we never tried them as we're doing well with fiber

Thank you SO much! So you mean those disposable paper towels that Kleenex makes? These things?

No, never seen those... the VIVA 'paper' towels. But they aren't paper more like cotton cloth.

Here's a blast from the past.. Right before I started the Rayon craze. This is literally where it started. -

Picture included.
