Yesterday, my dear wife decided to re-wick her Russian 91% without my thumb-fingered advice & assistance. She's a stubborn kind of gal sometimes.
Therefore I didn't get to see, or critique, the job she did on it—supposing I know diddly—but I did get to hear her complain that her juice was tasting horrible. And so it was, even after an overnight rest. When I took the thing apart this afternoon I found that both wick ends had come adrift from the coil (triple-twisted 28gauge, 1.2 ohms) and that only carbon was left inside the coil. A burnt mess, in other word.
I've experienced something similar after too many tankloads on the same wick (and ignoring early warning signs), but this is new. So now I'm wondering if the cause may have been over-wicking, or under-. Thought I'd ask the experts & save myself the trouble of finding out by repeated trial & error.
