If ya don't think cellulose is a great wick.... soak some in a pan of water and just try to get that water back out.
Hopefully this works. Will be down to only 994 feet if it doesn't !

Tentative name for this experiment: Project Tapeworm

Jake, It looks like your making homemade Linguini

I read some place that the stuff can absorb 2 to 3 times it own volume. So it shouldn't take more than a month to dry out. :D

Do you have a salad spinner? They work great for getting 90% of the water out of cotton balls. I have one like this, about $10 and works great.

Project Petri Dish is more like it. . . Reason you don't boil cotton; your adding bacteria and it's unnecessary.

If I had some that didn't taste right I'd trash a foot n try again, he'll, trash ten feet at a time. Granted Sally's isn't sterile, if it picked up a contaminant from the store, well, that's been known to happen, try a new piece, but boiling, cooking, extra handling, is adding more contaminants.

New name: Project Linguine Bacillus !

LOL, y'all are right and I totally forgot about the salad spinner.
Planned to use the spinner for the cotton ball debacle [still finding them in the dryer] but that got abandoned too.

This is going to take eons to try and I'm tempted to put it in the oven.... so FAIL.
It never tasted bad to begin with but I just can't leave well enough alone.

Think I'll just use it from the box

Edit: There was over 1/4 cup of water still left in it when I squeezed it out before trashing it.
Lesson: Don't waste time soaking or boiling !

Jake,

All I can say is that for a day in my life that wasn't going all that well you have completely reversed my course. ROTFLMAO - from Italian food to cotton balls in the dryer.

I can just visualize little white puffs popping out of the dryer vent and your neighbors freaking out thinking it is another "Polar Vortex" is coming in July.

Thanks Jake, best evening I have had all week. :toast:

On thing I noticed is that you want the wick to make a squeak noise when you pull it through. When you hear the squeak - stop its tight enough.. No squeak may be too loose..

I just did my first wick with CCr and that was the first thing I noticed! I used just ever so slightly more than I would have if I used cotton.

I'm not 100% sure I could actually hear the squeak, but I could feel it through the Rayon if that makes sense. I used your method of pulling on the ends while I pulled through the coil and it is working beautifully.

I am going to continue vaping for a while and do some more experimenting with other atomizers, since i am only about an hour on this first wick so far. I will give my full impressions probably tomorrow along with a follow up whenever I need to change the wick.

Is this enough? Too much? Too little?

For a fresh wick it looks about right.... Might even say looks perfect for a new wick.. (The left side may shrink and loose contact with the outer coil?)

To get the hang of the density the Best thing to do is try it out for a while. It will be smaller in an hour or a tank of juice. Check for full contact with the coil, shoulders no bigger than The outer diameter of the coil, ideally.

I'm half-deaf, so I'm *positive* I can't hear any squeak (unfortunately).

That said... still working with the first wick in the Erlk and it's still working well 2 days / 2 tanks later. That may be due to the thinning of the tails that was necessary due to the design of the atty, not sure.

Edit to add: Larger coil, as well... 3/32 vs 5/64.

I find that thinned tails works better in my dripper. Fat tails seem to want to hold juice more, I made a wick with a full tail and it didn't seem to feed as well.

This wick worked awesome. It's the last one that I put 80-90 ml Vg through with no gunking whatsoever. You can tell how little of the tail I used to go to the deck. Probably only like an 1/8 of it and it worked better than a full tail. This is the wick I made in the last video.

Basically if it's still working great for you after 2 days - you've got it close enough; Keep going with it .. next you just look for gunking if any after some tanks days. If you notice any gunking you next wick may need to be a little bit lighter. If it gunks in the next few days you have too much and haven't hit the sweet spot yet. . ..

But..
You may have just nailed it though. :)

I think I need to take just a little bit less the next time I build it. I'm getting a nice solid vape, but the flavour seems to be just a little bit muted. JUST a LITTLE bit.. but enough for me to know. I such a picky bastige!

Oh what the hell, it's only 12:38a.m, might as well re-wick before bed. :D

This Rayon wick is certainly a game changer! Thanks for this, JeremyR!
Ran two dripping wells of 4 different GoodeJuices with my first wick and it still looks pristine!
Ran the wick nearly dry between juices but that's all. By the second toke it was all the next flavor.
Several times better than cotton!

Edit: Those were GoodeJuice NETs by the way. :vapor:
