This tencel is a nightmare to wick with. So far, at least. It definitely gets more compact with use, but can take a torching far better than cotton. I am going to try pulling the tencel through the coils with a piece of kanthal hooked around the middle of the wick to get as much in there as possible.
Wet the tip so you can point it.. Twist the wick to compress it and twist it through. Twisting will compress it good.. Slide back and forth in the coil, untwist, hopefully you have the right amount - otherwise tweeze a few pieces out to size..
Or try the tencel chop, but still twisting can help get it through, because you need more than you think.. Just untwist when done.
You can always try it wet too.. My buddy dice57 is a big proponent of wicking wet with ramie, but for some reason I prefer to do it dry..at be some day that will change.
