Buuuut which one is more efficient?

Just kidding and not intending to dive down that rabbit hole again.

I am a spaced coil user too and it get much more longevity out of it vice "touching" ones. If I need more vape then I just crank up the watts by a few.

I have also found that if I make larger coils I get more leeway if things just aren't 100% correct. Currently my coils are 28 ga wrapped around a 3.2mm mandrel. For me in my KF 3.1 my wick would start getting foul tasting with fruity juice as my smaller diameter coils were getting a tad too hot for the restricted airflow of my older KF. Seems as if the larger coils maintain control over the coil heat a little better. That is my thinking anyways.

I am really thinking about TC mods as it may help me out with my KF. Either that or I'll have to upgrade to another tank type device that has larger juice channels and/or airflow.

My KFL is the Undead version by KayFunMods who drilled out the center post and two more airflow holes in the sides. You can look right through the base with the center pin lined up so there is quite a bit of air flow over the draw on my 3.1.

I build 2.4mm 28g micro coils for it around 1.4 ohms, even at 12.5W they do end up with a burnt taste after a short while on a 50/50 juice.
So I should try larger coils as well with a spaced build and see how it works out. I was getting a lot of popping with any spaced coils I have used in it before and I didn't care much for that, so I must have been building or wicking them wrong.

Nope, not burnt, there's no gunk. It doesn't look any different than at about 30ml. Its the high voltage that leaves the black stains. The flavor is right on. Only time it gets a burnt taste is if my tank isn't wicking.

I'm Not rebuilding if I don't need to. It tastes 90% as good as a fresh wick.

Ask anyone that makes it this far it doesn't taste burnt. That things been through hell over those 200 ml, VG freezeups and all.

Less time I have to spend on rebuilds the better for me, just fill up and vape, if it tastes burnt I will change it..

That wick was run dry to show the coil better without it being drenched in liquid from the wick juice

Wow, 30W on the 1.4 build would be burnt for sure in my KFL. I know it is not built like the FEV, so I am going to have to sit down and play with the builds on it some more.

Has anyone run 200ml's on an Kayfun?

I should, lol. Well with the isticl 50 I have a lot less a chance of it being fired by accident which is usually when I would rewick. Now I haven't had it fire on me in my pocket or whatever, so the wick/coil just keeps going..

The thing that sucks is this wick wasnt that great to begin with, but I never had time to rewick and it was working fine, now I'm at 200+ and its still going strong. Now its warmer out so the VG is wicking from the tank like a champ. So I will run as long as I can until the flavor drops. I need to at least get into the 250ml club! :)

Y'all keep raising the bar on me... I thought getting to 160ml was good, but I can't get to 250ml in a reasonable time while still enjoying myself. Even if I doubled my daily consumption, and only vaped from that single atty... I would still be looking at a month probably. Meanwhile, I like to mix it up and use a few different atties.

I guess it's time to set a mod and atty aside with a log book and pen... it will take a while, but I guess I can get there ;)

You would have to be below the capabilities threshold of the kayfuns juice and air flow, which I'm guessing is 12- 15w on newer ones and modded maybe 18-20w.

The FEV is set up like a dripper, so the chamber is larger which gives more room for heat to dissapate after a hit. The kayfun is small and kinda insulates in there.

If you take a vape off an Atty and you hear it sizzling after you stop hitting it then the juice is caramelizing. The key on that is to let off the fire button just a second before you finish your draw to finish vaporizing it and pull air over the coil enough to cool it a little before you set it down. Normally it will still be vaporizing for a second after you let off.

The heavier the gauge the longer it takes to cool down below vaporization/ caramelization.

I have 2 mm of unrestricted air flow also.

So if juice flow is an issue a better set wick or a larger coil can help. (Though too large will again restrict air flow) or modding the juice channels.

If heat capacity is too high a lighter gauge wire will heat and cool faster.

If air flow is a problem all you can do is mod it as much as possible or keep the power down, or draw on it faster/harder lung pulls to pull air through faster. (A restricted draw will make this painful.) Just the way you draw has an impact also.

Overpowering your Atty will only cause premature gunking.

Your doing great jimmy.

We're just showing the world the capabilities of rayon that's all. Not really a contest. But if you've been around here from the old days there were a lot of doubters. So we just gotta keep showing them what it can do.

What matters is that you get longer life and can chose to rewick when you want - not because you have to. :)

I mostly vape unflavored 25pg/75vg 12mg but rotate other toppers with various flavors during the day. Probably around 2-3ml a day of just that one. So guessing that coil has around 120-150ml on it and I thought it was working ok. Just dry burned and rewicked and wow what a difference.

My computer is in a spare bedroom next to mirrored closet doors. I can see what I exhale very well.

Thanks for all the great info Jeremy!
I will do some trials with a larger diameter spaced coil and play with the power. The Kayfuns are the only ones I'd like to have better performance with as my Origen works flawlessly but it is quite the juice hog. When my Genesis arrives I will have to look into a Hotcig FEV as my next tank.

I don't know did you check his profile for activity?

Yeah I just got the notice on that I cleared it now I can receive.. I guess I need to be a paying member so I don't have this issue. :)

Jeremy,

This is going to sound stupid but how do I get to his profile? I clicked on members list but it said the moderator has disabled this function?

Never mind Jeremy - I got lucky and figured it out. The last time he was on was 3-19... Anyway I wanted to talk to him about his "Lead Welder". I'll try to search for some of his post about the Welder.

Sorry for bothering you with my ignorance of the system.

Not sure if this info helps you at all...

I'm doing it myself.

Jeremy, what are you wrapping the coil width at to get the 1.4?

Is that 8 wraps or am I seeing things?

I'd be getting dry hits....has to be the atty's.....been using subtanks and goblins....but seem to get dry hits at anything over 20 watts....perhaps not enough wick....I'm still in the trial and error process, only been vaping a little over four months.

I've read a lot of this long thread.

I ordered, recieved and have been building my wicks with tencel. I agree the flavor is cleaner than with anything else I've tried but JEEZ it's hard to get it in the coil! I'm pretty new at building (about 5 months) and hoping there is a trick?

I'm using a Lemo, 28 gage, 8/9 wraps on a Provari. I'm using a (pretty big 2-3 mm) screw driver to wrap.

It's so difficult for me to get enough tencel in the coil for it to stay put while I trim it. Just getting the tencel through the coil is a task I'm fustrated with. I've started holding one side down to trim the other but it still slips around on me!

    Help appreciated!

Jeremy should be around soon.....he has certainly helped me through this new wicking method, but I'm having some problems too....but I think mine are the attys.

You can really only go over 18w with lung hits or hard/fast mouth pulls

    3/32 screwdriver at 8 wraps.

Hi Holly, I have a method that works well, and use the Tencel in my Rose. It's tricky to wick a Rose with the coil in the cup, so I take the Tencel and tie a thread to the middle of a bunch, fold it in half where tied (making the amount therefore doubled), put the thread through the coil and pull through. This leaves nice, straight filaments--and easily divides into the juice channels in the cup. It works so well, I make the wicks up ahead of time and store in small plastic tubes with the retaining thread exposed. Hope it helps!
