I belive your right.. I see that it's resistance isn't even that lowm. ..

I guess it's just another victim of scrare tactics.. Its got to be the most inert i would think.. Stainless has low reactivity.. Kanthal will rust..

I would think once it's annealed any possible off gassing would be done.

I don't think it would work with Ni200 TCR. It works just as good in wattage mode and I believe Unkamen still has it for $5 so you have nothing to lose if you still use kanthal as well.

I'll have to pick some up... just a shame that I've got a TC mod now, and I never use the TC function... LOL

316/317 has an extremely low TCR value which makes it a poor choice for TC. For TC it goes 410, 430, 302, and bringing up the rear 304.

My thinking is the same, kanthal easily rusts and stainless is much more resilient against corrosion.

If I were a betting man I would bet in 6 months we will see a 25% increase in SS coils and in 12 months ½ of all produced coils and maybe ⅓ of all hand built coils will be SS. It is natural progression since SS can do TC and standard wattage equally well.

Hopefully you will be able to drop a SS build into the Silverplay V2. Absolutely no way you are going to get Ni 200 in there, if my Ti from Unkamen ever gets here there will be a TC build in my V1.

That's exactly what I'm thinking... I did manage to get a Ni200 TC build in it, but I had to go single coil and block up one side... it worked, but I felt like I was cheating on her... designed for dual, relegated to single... now she's rocking dual with NiChrome 80, and I've been keeping the Invader at 35W. This build can handle 50W just fine with the rayon, but I get a decent vape and better battery life at 35...

Oh, and I just have to give a public shout-out to Jeremy for helping me with some info on rayon. I'm trying to help a new vaper and suggested rayon. Apparently she'd been misinformed and told that rayon contains fiberglass and is all man-made.... I hit Jeremy with a PM and everything was sorted out in record time... I've passed on the info, and hopefully she'll give it a shot! Either way, I just wanted to thank Jeremy again for all the hard work he put into the discovery of rayon as the most superior wick (whether other vapers recognize it or not). My cotton pads stay in the bathroom with my shave gear for application of witch hazel after a perfect shave!

ETA: Come to think of it.... I've got enough Sally's that I should probably switch that to rayon once I run out of cotton..... :D

Sitting down, facing forward.
I have to admit that I like Ti over Ni or Kanthal. I have a seven wrap, 28 gauge, 3mm, dual coil, .25 ohm, setup running right now in a DNA200. 30 watts at 480F gives me a nice, rich, vape and provides the same crackle, and maybe more, than a dual coil Kanthal build provides by far. Ti is basically inert at the temperatures we vape at so health risks seem to be very minimal at most.

I have no problems winding coils using it. I bought it from zivipf and it does come off the spool kind of dirty. I clean it with Scotch Brite and IPA, then a tissue and IPA. After that a gentle heating gets rid of the springiness and it's good to wrap. In terms of longevity, I usually got 100 to 200ml before rebuilding depending on the liquids in use.

Now that's hardcore, my brother... silly me, I've been drinking my beer, and here you are cleaning your wire with it... ;)
So, strictly IPAs, or have you tried Stouts yet?

IPA=isopropyl alcohol, LOL. I don't think beer would work well at all, although it might be fun to try, maybe a beer flavored liquid?

Your friend that was worried about fiberglass in rayon should consider that silica is exactly the same as fiberglass, just a different form.

LOL... yeah, just having a bit of fun with ya, man. Hmmmm... but yeah, now I need to work on a DIY Double Chocolate Stout juice! :toast:

I thought the same thing! She's using cotton bacon now... but that's probably full of pesticides and weevil testes... I'll stick with my rayon!

All my coils are spaced. I should also mention that I've modified the air flow on the RBA to 3mm, all the way through. I have also "tested" and can run as high as 70 watts and still maintain temperature, power and flavor. I's just too cottin pickin hot a vape for me. I did get a heck of a nic buzz doing those tests though

Just ordered....

Feels like a rayon deal - a ton of quality stuff for cheap. Two lifetimes worth for 8.00 shipped. Ralph is great.

Wth, this is gonna be the bomb why not before.. We'll see next week.
I just ordered the SS from Unkamen as well. What a deal! Thanks for the heads up @f1vefour.

I think you will both be pleased, I would be even if I paid $20...but $5 made me smile.

You're welcome @thayamax

OK, now you guys have me curious about SS. I've seen a few reviews on it and google turns up a few things, but I'm not finding a lot of info on it. Can it be used for wattage only devices? Right now my mod bottoms out at .5 ohms, I'd like to keep it somewhere around .8 if at all possible. Advice?

P.S. bunch of enablers!!! :D

With 28g it isn't hard to get a nice higher ohm load, 8 wraps around 3mm will be about 0.89 ohms. I'm really surprised it hasn't been used sooner.

And if you lightly anneal it (I use a grill lighter) before wrapping it is not springy at all.

I believe it is safer than kanthal but this is just based on personal opinion, I haven't delved deeply into it.

Yes it works as good or better than kanthal in wattage mode.
