One important tip to those just trying this mod. What ever material you choose for the plug, it is important that it be positioned in the cart so that it just touches the bridge. The filler material transferring the eliquid to the bridge is the main wicking action of the system. You don't want a light weight foam product that will deform and wrap around the bridge. This will cause the material to be overheated by the coil. If you put too much of the PB filler the bridge will compress the filler and decrease the wicking action and cause the atty to lean out and produce the harsh taste.

So if at first you don't have success try modifying the straw length and or the plug thickness. This mod does work very well. The reward for success is the best vaping experience you have ever have.

Thought I would let this one rise to the front page again. I have been using this method for several months. It really works and you will get more satisfied vaping experience over the stock filler.

First thing to notice is that the stock filler was designed for thin straight PG nic juice. It was also designed for someone taking slow drags with a little time between drags. A stock cart, especially the 510 will almost never empty the cart of juice.

The basic design is to use something to create the reservoir. Most including myself use a straw. The straw serves to hold up the shorter filler plug which will wick much better and faster than the much larger stock filler. The main objective of the plug is to get the right density of material so that the plug will be able to supply enough nic juice to the atomizer without causing the cart to flood the atomizer which will end up leaking out the atomizer vent holes. Because the viscosity of the liquid is different from brand to brand and the content of the base, whether it is be PG or VG. Thicker liquid requires less density of the plug. So some experimentation is going to be required. So, if you have problems don't give up. It really makes a different in the quality of your vaping experience.

I've just got my first e-cigs of undetermined make. Super mini look. Unfortunately, got them from different guys and the cartridges are not interchangable. well... coming to the point, anyone tried make-up sponges? The kind used for stage make up. They are denser and firmer - the one I have seems ready for sacrifice as a "cork" that wicks. I never use make up anyway. Its a noble cause. Though the way things are going, its going to be a good month before I get around to refills....

I've tried the makeup pads - 3 different versions. I didn't like the flavor (even after they were washed) and they didn't wick too well. :(

Well I somehow skipped this mod when I was back searching. I have been messin around with the blue foam and ptb stuff. Like it has already been said it works sometimes pretty good IF you cut it just right BUT the foam shrinks and looses it's seal even when cut oversize. The ptb mod worked well but did hold alot of fluid in the cart after tasting low. I'll stop repeating everyone else and just say thank you. As the blue foam guy stated "the search is over!!!" However, with this mod, it really is.

Well... I decided to try the straw and plug last night. I used poly as the plug. It is MUCH better than just poly, but its not perfect. So, tonight I picked up some straws and some O-CEll-O non scratch scrubber pads (I think these will work:confused:), and I am going to do this right.

I am still experimenting with flavors right now and the only thing I have left is Marlboro from TW, but its NASTY!!!!! How do you people puff on this stuff? :) That is untill I get my blueberry pancake, dejarum, and PB&J juice from litecigusa!!!!!

Just a heads up. I was loving the blue scotch bright plug until about an hour in i started to itch. Not long after my neck and upper chest covered in blistering hot welts. 5 hours after the anti histamine tablet its still red, lumpy and tender.

Twas my usual pg/vg mix and i cant think of any other contributing causes. I didn't wash it first but that 1/4 of a cubic centimeter of blue stuff is number 1 candidate for rather severe unpleasantness. Just happy it was scratchy throat and skin blisters rather than internal.

As always your mileage may vary and im a long way from settling on crappy caramalising poly. Probably my fault for not sterilizing it first and may not even be the blue pads fault but it will be the last time I use a household cleaning product in my vape.

Just wanted to drop my thanks. I'm a new vaper (got a 510 last Thursday) and have been having trouble getting good vapor, which is supposed to be a feature of the 510 according to these fora. I happen to have a bunch of straws around the house and a spare scotch brite sponge, so I thought I'd give this a whirl and it's fantastic. I didn't think this thing could produce so much vapor, and now I have no flooding issues, either!

One small note, since it wasn't clear in the instructions to me: I only have sponges around, with the green scour pad on the back, so I tore off a bit of the scouring pad and cut that down to size.

If you guys want another way to try using straws, try my PTB Made Easy mod

After I created this mod, I quickly got sick of having to remove the plug to refill and the taste of the pad occasionally was bad.

Switching to the PTB Made Easy has solved all of my issues! (Well, at least my ecig issues, lol! ;))

Hello Kristin, THANKS a TON for sharing all of your knowledge and mods (and not just because im from Milwaukee  ) I have tried every mod I can find on these informative forums and even tho I am a noob PVer, I simply hate having to remove elements from Carts to refill...in other words, I am having the best and most hassle-free experience with the PTB...I realize the ZFM and BFD are all the rage but that juice just hasnt been worth the squeeze...as i gain more exp and get my motor running i hope to join you in improving the ecig for everyone..
Again, thank you ( and everyone here) for all your help !!
