OK.... I just got back from Walgreens and I have the generic "Buff Puff" in my bloody little hands.

When I was leaving the Walgreens three really big bullies noticed that I had a semi-feminine product with me and decided to liberate me from my money. I ended up surviving the ordeal and walked away with my wallet intact.... but it was still a violent interaction. After all, there were THREE of them, and I had my Buff Puff in my good fighting hand! I exfoliated the heck out of one of them!

LOL! Yeah, I know, but the sizes we are looking at are so small, it's hard to divide it in inches for me. I have a basic school ruler in my kitchen drawer that is inches on one side and millimeters on the other and could just be more accurate with the millimeter side! :D

That's what I used too. My nice scale is at work. :)

Got a generic buff puff today at the grocery store. Kinda felt funny buying beer, crest pro-health mouthwash, and a buff puff. Definite time to use the self checkout! I'm lucky they don't sell everclear there too!

Have any of you tried Eclypse's "Slug Plug?" Where he doesn't use anything at all to hold up the plug - just the inner edge of the 510 cart? I'm thinking that this buff material will expand enough to hold it's own without a straw and leave even more room for liquid...

I'm thinking the same thing. I don't think the straw is needed. I'll try it out and see.

I'm also thinking I should by stock in Buff Puffs. I wonder if "they" will notice the sudden surge in Buff Puff purchases? I can see it now......

Knock knock...Hello...Yes we are with the Dept of Homeland Security. We have been tracking your Buff Puff purchases, we need to ask you some questions.

Kristin and I are going to have words. And they aren't going to be nice words.

So I go to Walgreens today looking for the ghey Buff-Puff. I walk up and down all the feminine aisles... and no, I won't ask for help. I see a generic "Buff-Puff" looking thing.. but I'm thinking to myself "Nah... Kristin would only use and recommend the genuine, certified item. No generic for me!".

So I leave Walgreens and trek over to Walmart. Same story... up and down the feminine aisles... far, far away from the motor oil and fishing supplies. No luck. Nothing but generic Buf-Puff clones. Not good enough for me and my prized 510.

Then I gander over that the other thread.. and find out that my precious Kristin is actually using a generic "equivalent", and we can't possibly hope to recreate her results. If ours don't work as good.. she'll say that we have the wrong no-name Chinese import clone.

I'm getting in my car right now... driving North.. and thumpin' her on her lil' noggin'.

(You watch... next she'll tell us that Tampons or feminine pads are the bomb... and that Summer's Eve cleans attys best!)

Even though I'm a 57 YO Grampa, and I shouldn't really be talkin' this way; DUDE! ROFLMAO! That post ROCKED!!:w00t:

I went to CVS and bought the wrong buff puff. And I had to ask for help in finding them.

"Um, my wife is looking for something she calls Buff Puffs."
"Oh they're right over here. Does she use one all the time or does she throw them away after each use?"
"I really have no idea. I'll just buy both and be safe." (and let me out of this aisle before a friend comes in!!!)

I covered myself at the register by adding a car magazine, a pint of whiskey, and a pack of Marlboros.

Well... I don't want to get too excited prematurely... because many of these things end up being a flash in the pan... but:

The wife isn't going to deal with the plug deal. It's just not her style. She's gonna want to drip into the cartridge, put it back on.. and be done with it. She's been enduring the stock 901 filler with one of my metal straws (traditional straw mod) for a long time now.. and it's been "OK".

I got to looking at the Buff Puff material, and was thinking to myself that if oriented correctly.... this might make a good traditional filler. And it would appear.. at least at first blush.. that I was right.

As one would imagine.. orienting the material properly is key.. and getting the compression "right" along the easy-to-compress axis is key to not having it flood or starve. But after one failed attempt, I think I got it right and it's vaping quite well. Drained the cart nicely.. refilled easily... and didn't have to use the straw. And because the material doesn't want to compress along the "long axis", it maintained excellent contact with the bridge.

For non-plug folks.... this might just be the cat's-.....

Props to Kristin for finding this stuff. Even if it did cost me a good ....-whoopin'! ;-)

Hagen also a foam product that has a different density (finer) than the Marineland blue foam.

The more traditional Fluval Water Polishing Pads have the same characteristics.

Fluval was one of the original cart mod materials. You guys are comming back around full circle. I think if I stand still you will meet me here again eventually.

I hate to tell you but I have been using the original RSP mod ever since I discovered these threads. I really like it the way it is. I am using the original filler as a plug. It works time after time, no leaks, and no trouble. I'm using two of the larger stirring straws and to date I have zero invested in this cart mod.

Not coming full circle at all. I'm still a huge fan of the plug.. although I use a spring and primarily the blue pad.

I made the comment above... as I stated... for people who aren't going to use the plug method (like my wife). For them, the oriented Buff Puff may work quite well as a traditional filler, and it may be easier to find than Fluval.

I don't see myself leaving the plug style anytime soon. This has been an amazingly wonderful and consistent vaping week for me.

So. THIS is what vaping should feel like!!

I've just completed two weeks of analog-free vaping, and have gotten three more people on the vaping bandwagon. BUT: I've also been enduring some crummy vaping experiences in the past week, e.g., almost no vapor coming through, lots of harsh, dry, burnt taste, dripping constantly (and evidently wreaking havoc on my 510 auto bat that now likes to turn on at its own mystical whim -- thankfully I also got a manual bat!), juice dripping out all over the place, juice in the mouth, yadda yadda...

...and here I was, still proselytizing because even with all this, I found that I still preferred vaping to smoking.

I tried a straw mod before, with horrid success. Ahem. Now I see why. I was doing it wrong. Extremely wrong. In fact, I seem to have gotten quite a LOT wrong, vis a vis putting filler in carts.

Then I happened upon this little gem of a thread this evening, and read all 20+ pages of posts. And I feebly tried out the mod as pictured in the handy-dandy diagram, using what I have on hand: coffee stirrers and white fluval (not like scrubby pads, but like layers of poly batting).

And a whole new world opened up. Better than my first vape off of a fresh atty and professionally pre-packed cart. C-L-O-U-D-S of vapor, over and over. Cool, easy draws, instead of harsh, dry, burnt eccch. I finally tasted the vapor of my juice instead of tasting scorched polyfil as I now believe is what I had been getting all this time.

So word to N00bs like me: do not stuff your entire cart full of polyfill / Fluval / wool / whatever filler you use, and then try to force in all of 3-4 drops (most it would hold the way I was doing it...and pretty much all of that just sat in the filler, unvapable). Instead, fill the cart with juice, pop in the straw / stirrers, and plug it up at the end.

I feel like such a dork for doing it so very wrong! Bah! I was beginning to wonder how I could have enjoyed vaping so very much in the first several days, followed with a whole lot of FAIL after that.

So thank you, Kristin, and all who have contributed here for opening my eyes. Tomorrow I'll pop out and pick up a Buf-Puf (I used to use those long ago for face cleansing; didn't know they were still around!) and some straws to more closely follow the success y'all have been enjoying.

And now a question: remember that video that VaporHead4Life posted on 11/09/09 (see page #9), adoringly referred to as the Blair Witch Project video? ;) The multi-bat charger shown in that video caught my eye. Since I got myself vaping, I have also gotten my husband on the vaping trail, and now we have four 510 bats here to charge. A nice multi-port charger like the one shown in that video would be very handy. Anyone know where to find such an animal? I haven't come across it yet in the many hardware sites I've visited thus far.

Did I thank you for this thread enough yet? I don't think so. THANK. YOU. :D :thumb:
